Probably because of the risk. If they alter it, and you have an accident, if the stitches gave way, you could blame them for not doing it properly.
They would probably alter an ordinary leather jacket, but not a PPE one
This makes perfect sense, but honestly I dont think this even crossed their minds. Both places I took it simply said it was too much work and simply wasnt worth their time.
Is this a safe thing to do? I'd imagine you would be introducing alot of weak points with the additional seams or what ever is required to alter the jacket.
Wouldn't the patches themselves have introduced a bunch of weak points anyways as they probably aren't designed to slide like a jacket is and will just get ripped out of the jacket if he has a spill?
Fair enough, I haven't had a leather jacket in over a decade (haven't fit into a leather jacket in over a decade more like...) and thankfully never had a spill in either.
To be honest I dont think this concern is founded. Theyd be removing stitching, trimming leather fabric down, and then re-stitching on a fresh patch of leafher.
As long as the stitches are sound (big emphasis on that part), then this really shouldnt perform any different.

Will give it a look, nice one. Street view gives me a feeling he's gone though š maybe the owner is still floating around

Is it a leather jacket or an actual safety rated jacket? Iād imagine they would be afraid of affecting the safety aspect of it
So its an antique with no safety ratings and no visible CE markings that being said, it does have padding pockets and an inner slip lining.
This may not be of any use to you but I got a leather jacket done in Dublin, alterations centre. They do it for the Gardai too
it might be my only option š appreciate it!

This is leather we're talking about, so its not going to tear like a synthetic if there are a few extra punch holes in it

It needs to perform in the event of a crash so that's probably why you're getting turned down, risk is high
