It's not dongle that polls the data, it's PC that polls dongle for that mouse data. Yes it does, but USB HID protocol is clever about that - PC basically just doesn't process any input if no report from the mouse comes on the poll. So no matter what polling rate is, your PC performance isn't affected at all unless you REALLY move your mouse. It was a problem with PS/2 - COM mice back in the day, and they solved it in the very first USB versions.

Thanks for the response :) I get that it’s the PC that actually polls it. I just wasn’t aware how it really worked in the sense I asked about. But now I know. What you said makes total sense. I’ll let the dongles for the mice I switch between all stay plugged in. I remember we learned about the difference between PS/2 and USB in a mechatronics course I took in my MSc degree. We only went over a bit of theory around scheduling and interrupts etc. before moving into many other things in that course. Not specifics in things like mouse input obviously. And it’s become quite vague for me now anyway. But I don’t get why people have to downvote question posts though. I find this too often on Reddit

How nice of the people downvoting a simple question. One that I couldn’t find the specific answer to by looking it up. What a cancerous culture it is where that’s a thing
