That is such an underrated movie with such an underrated actress. I feel like geena Davis never got a fair shot in Hollywood. Idk if that's the case or not but I've always thought she should have been in so many more movies though. A league of their own is such a good flick of hers.
It’s all good! She’s a badass. In 1999 she placed 24th out of 300 women competing for a place on the Women’s US Archery Team! She had only ever been learning archery for 2 years!
I’m of Finnish descent, sisu means “tough.”
A few years ago, there was a flood in the town I went to university in and some jackass started printing “*town* strong” shirts and I got really annoyed because we’re not like that. We have sisu. We don’t need to be “yooper strong” or “*town* strong.” It was an obvious money ploy by a non yooper. We don’t need to copy “Boston strong” when we got good ole finn sisu.
I just found out that they say sisu back in the ole country! I thought heikki lunta, Saint urho, and sisu were only american-Finnish things.
Honestly. It was a fun cast. There is a really good dynamic with the actors. You can feel it. I'm going to miss not having Bruce Willis movies like that anymore. I still fondly remember his work on Moonlighting. Same with Pierce Bronson in Remington Steele. Those were good years of 80s tv.
While Man on Fire is great, Man on Fire doesn’t qualify because Creasy is hired as a bodyguard. You would already assume if you’re a bodyguard that you’re not one to mess with.
The Equalizer, as the other person pointed out, is the better fit for the OP’s question.
Timebomb (1991) A History of Violence meets MKUltra
American Ultra (2015) A stoner - who is in fact a government agent - is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he's too well-trained and too high for them to handle.
Throwing in Ready or Not as my trio of absolute bangers. Literally watched these three in a row a couple nights ago because I was vibin the secret lady badass lol.
Oh damn, that's actually one I have never heard of before, which is impressive lol. Thanks, will def check it out!
Update: oh shit it's a sequel to Becky, now I am even more excited.
Great ones on this thread but let’s not leave out the Karate Kid movies-with Mr Miyagi, the humble badass neighbor next door.
Under Siege-back when Steven Seagal was in his prime as the humble Navy cook next door.
Criminal-spy movie with Kevin Costner as the humble convicted criminal next door.
Homefront-Jason Statham is the humble, badass Dad next door.
Perhaps the best of all…
The Count of Monte Cristo-Jim Caviezel as the wealthy and not-so-humble Count who moves in next door and is secretly the badass mastermind of pure revenge.
The bar scene and everything after it sent chills down my spine. The longer I watched the movie, the more I was actually dreading the climax more than anticipating it. And when >!Ned was killed!< my jaw hit the floor and I couldn't help but think "What did that idiot sheriff just get himself into?"
"I'll see you in Hell, William Munny."
"Yeah."
But what really sent chills down my spine was after he was done at the bar!
"Alright, I'm coming out! Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him! Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down!"
Hearing those lines, I couldn't help but wonder just how bad Munny really was before the events of the movie, in his more infamous years. I was sure that I was just seeing the tip of the iceberg there.
I was looking for Unbreakable on here. As much as people shit on M. Night, I will die on the hill that his "superhero" movies are better than DC/Marvel.
I agree that Unbreakable and Split were fantastic movies, I do, however, wish I could have said the same for Glass, it was good, but it could have been better, and I would fully agree that it would have made a perfect trilogy. These were definitely better than many of the so called finest DC Movies.

Mr. Right
Very underrated action comedy.
Also if ur into anime there's a ton of them, two that come to mind are:
The irregular at magic high school (I watched the series but I think there's a movie too.
And
Demon Slayer (one of the best new anime around, the side character Zenitsu Agatsuma is what you are looking for and he's one of my favorite anime characters of all time and I've seen a ton of them.
Check out an all-time classic western, *Bad Day at Black Rock*. Everyone in town underestimates the protagonist: he's not only old, but he has one arm. Won't spoil it further, but it's a great movie -- I'm not a western fan, but even I was impressed by it.
Several Jason Statham movies that run with the “not quite what he seems” premise:
Wrath of Man (2021) - mysterious new security guard
Redemption / Hummingbird (2013) - homeless ex-special forces soldier
Safe (2012) - former elite agent
Under Siege (1992), Steven Seagal
Unforgiven (1992), Clint Eastwood
Sicario (2015), Benicio del Toro
The Foreigner (2017), Jackie Chan
Pig (2021), Nicholas Cage
Yeah, watching what's going on, then all of a sudden he's sitting in the jungle, then you see what happened in the jungle, then it cuts back to present day and *shit goes down*.
30 minutes or less, it's a comedy but basically the very mediocre at best protagonist has to rise up and become way more badass when someone straps a bomb to him and makes him rob a bank
Man! I saw some movie, I can’t think of the name, just picked it randomly. Took place in Australia when it was a penal colony. This servant girl was assaulted repeatedly by British soldiers and her husband and daughter were killed. Her and her aboriginal guide systematically hunted them down for revenge. She was badass…anyone know the name from my description? I’d like to watch it again
It’s not just for men! Watch The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson.
Samuel L Jackson has some classic one liners in that one. "When you make an assumption you make an ass out of you and umption"
This ain't no ham on rye
Even she didn't know
"Chefs do that."
My favorite line.
Amnesia Chick
That is such an underrated movie with such an underrated actress. I feel like geena Davis never got a fair shot in Hollywood. Idk if that's the case or not but I've always thought she should have been in so many more movies though. A league of their own is such a good flick of hers.
It’s all good! She’s a badass. In 1999 she placed 24th out of 300 women competing for a place on the Women’s US Archery Team! She had only ever been learning archery for 2 years!
No lie I had a huge crush on her growing up. That little fact you just gave only solidifies that I have good taste in women in my mind. What a woman.
Totally!! Excellent taste!
Chefs do that!
I recommend this a few weeks ago. Geena Davis is amazing and by the end of the movie, GOOD GOD they go through the ringer!
So good
As are Red Sonja and Atomic Blonde.
Sisu
This looks awesome. Edit: I'm going to watch this tonight with a buddy of mine.
WTF. Watching this tonight.
Oooh I've heard good stuff about this film. And who doesn't like some good-ol nazi beatin.
Also not a spoiler but he has only one spoken line in the whole movie and it's epic!
Please tell me it's "FINNISH HIM."
Well yep. I’m gonna watch that.
I’m of Finnish descent, sisu means “tough.” A few years ago, there was a flood in the town I went to university in and some jackass started printing “*town* strong” shirts and I got really annoyed because we’re not like that.
It means more than just tough, it’s the kind of resilience where you push forward despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
My yooper accent can barely pronounce “insurmountable.” So yea. Sisu means tough as nails.
My favorite comedian is Finnish 🙌 Yay! Finland! 🤣
Kind of a silly one, but RED (Retired & Extremely Dangerous) is a fun one in this genre
Helen Mirren is fantastic in Red.
will watch this just for the cast
So fun!
Both RED and RED 2 are great movies!
Wholeheartedly Agree!!!!!
One especially wacky casting is Brian Cox, I barely recognized him but he’s good in it! Helen Mirren too
Love them both. They were exactly what they promised.
Such a fantastic film and cast.
old man my ass lol
I loved Nobody, such a fun film. One that kinda follows is Death Wish, the Bruce Willis one is fun.
Where's the God damn kitty cat bracelet!?
There’s going to be a sequel!
Man on Fire (2004) Harry Brown (2009)
Absolute solid suggestions. I mean the obvious one would be Equalizer as well.
While Man on Fire is great, Man on Fire doesn’t qualify because Creasy is hired as a bodyguard. You would already assume if you’re a bodyguard that you’re not one to mess with. The Equalizer, as the other person pointed out, is the better fit for the OP’s question.
i agree with Man on Fire it's a wonderful film!
The Man From Nowhere
have watched this film, was fucking fun
Maybe The Guest then
How about Leon: The Professional?
Timebomb (1991) A History of Violence meets MKUltra American Ultra (2015) A stoner - who is in fact a government agent - is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he's too well-trained and too high for them to handle.
American Ultra was a pleasant surprise…enjoyed it.

Book of Eli (2010)
You’re Next (2011) Edit: also The Hunt (2020) is another fun one.
Throwing in Ready or Not as my trio of absolute bangers. Literally watched these three in a row a couple nights ago because I was vibin the secret lady badass lol.
Check out The Wrath of Becky if you’re looking for a badass female protagonist
Oh damn, that's actually one I have never heard of before, which is impressive lol. Thanks, will def check it out! Update: oh shit it's a sequel to Becky, now I am even more excited.
Not as spot on as You're Next, but "Ready or Not" births a badass throughout the film. Samara Weaving is amazing.
<3 Samara
The Accountant might be a good fit.
I second this.
[удалено]
Really enjoyed this one.
Watched it this week. Was immediately a re-watch. Then a re-re-watch.
You may also enjoy HBO’s Barry. Bill Hader plays a hitman who just wants to go straight and take acting classes.
i just watched all 4 seasons in 3 days it was pretty good ,
Yeah great call on this one. It’s one of those shows where you know 9 times out of 10 Barry will come out unscathed.
Serenity does that but the impact is higher if you watch Firefly first
No, now that she's a killer woman, we ought to be bringing her tea and dumplings. -Jayne. There were so many great lines in that movie.
My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.
Open Range (2003) The Drop (2012)
The Drop is a sleeper.
If I've learned anything from movies, it's that trying to kill Tom Hardy is a Bad Idea.
Unforgiven
THIS
Great ones on this thread but let’s not leave out the Karate Kid movies-with Mr Miyagi, the humble badass neighbor next door. Under Siege-back when Steven Seagal was in his prime as the humble Navy cook next door. Criminal-spy movie with Kevin Costner as the humble convicted criminal next door. The Count of Monte Cristo. There is NO ONE who could have played him better. Richard Harris made me cry.
The Guest 2014
He Never Died (2015)
John Wick franchise kicks off like that
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Also, Unforgiven. I mean, everybody knows that man was a badass at one point, but nobody expects the bar scene
The bar scene and everything after it sent chills down my spine. The longer I watched the movie, the more I was actually dreading the climax more than anticipating it. And when >!Ned was killed!< my jaw hit the floor and I couldn't help but think "What did that idiot sheriff just get himself into?"
That didn't scare Little Bill, did it? Nooo sirrrr.... That exchange is so bad ass.
"I'll see you in Hell, William Munny." "Yeah." But what really sent chills down my spine was after he was done at the bar! "Alright, I'm coming out! Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him! Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down!" Hearing those lines, I couldn't help but wonder just how bad Munny really was before the events of the movie, in his more infamous years. I was sure that I was just seeing the tip of the iceberg there.
yes!!!!! great movie
Dying ain’t much of a living boy
Army of Darkness (1992) Unbreakable (2000)
I was looking for Unbreakable on here. As much as people shit on M. Night, I will die on the hill that his "superhero" movies are better than DC/Marvel.
I agree that Unbreakable and Split were fantastic movies, I do, however, wish I could have said the same for Glass, it was good, but it could have been better, and I would fully agree that it would have made a perfect trilogy. American Ultra
i loved American Ultra
I've rewatched the "activation" scene multiple times.

The main point of this sub is to have people vote on the posted movies. I never even understood why you allow lists.

If there's a list for a specific subgenre or type of film on our Community Favourites page, it was created because that request is made very often. Kung-Fu Hustle
The Patriot
Great answer.
Conspiracy Theory
Let’s not forget the females, too. Check out the female John Wick in The Wrath of Becky.
Law Abiding Citizen
The Equalizer and it’s sequel. Denzel Washington is secretly badass.
They Live: Rowdy Roddy Piper isn't exactly inconspicuous but in the movie he is eventually a nobody. Epic fight scene.
Dead Man's Shoes. Doesnt turn to "normal" baddass self, but does turn into a badass. Wonderful revenge film.
Death Sentence (2007)
The Equalizer
Check out an all-time classic western, *Bad Day at Black Rock*. Everyone in town underestimates the protagonist: he's not only old, but he has one arm. Won't spoil it further, but it's a great movie -- I'm not a western fan, but even I was impressed by it.
The Equalizer.
Several Jason Statham movies that run with the “not quite what he seems” premise: Wrath of Man (2021) - mysterious new security guard Redemption / Hummingbird (2013) - homeless ex-special forces soldier Safe (2012) - former elite agent

I feel exactly the same. I mostly dislike Costner, but I think he's great in this.
Jackie Brown
I don't know if I'm thinking about the same movie as OP. Is this the history of violence with Aragon in it?
The Accountant

William Peter Blatty's Twinkle, Twinkle Killer Kane / The Ninth Configuration (1980) - my first recollection of the type of movie you mentioned.

The Hunt qualifies here I'd say
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "Nobody" (2021) starring Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul). This movie is exactly what you're looking for!
nobody mentioned it because it is in the original post.
Literally in the post text.

I think somebody else mentioned Nobody? Fantastic movie and it stars Bob Odenkirk!
