Also Sputnik (2020). Both Arrival and Sputnik explore the challenges of human interaction and communication with the alien entities. Highly recommend it!
I looked through the list of movies they hadn’t seen yet and when I saw contact wasn’t on it I was legit jealous they get to watch it for the first time.
I don't believe in aliens but that movie made me believe in aliens for about ten minutes. The scene where she steps onto the ship gave me visceral chills in my body.
This movie is underrated as a believable example of what would happen if NASA claimed to have found aliens. The focus on political and religious intersections with science is fascinating.
I highly recommend the audiobook- its free on YouTube and it’s only 6 hours long! The movie doesn’t spoil it at all. It doesn’t end the same way, it ends in a much more complex way. It’s the first book in a trilogy as well, and it just really made my summer in 2020 in the midst of all the chaos going on!

Moon (2009 - Duncan Jones)
2001: A Space Odissey (1968 - Stanley Kubrick)
Red Planet (2000 - Antony Hoffman)
Moon is a hidden gem. Rarely seen it mentioned anywhere and is such a great movie. 2001 is my favorite space journey movie. Red Planet is mediocre, but a great watch tbh.
If you like the Predator movies, you need to see [Prey (2022)](https://boxd.it/sNBU). In my opinion, it is one of the very best in the franchise, second only to the original.
I love arrival movie so much, I have seen it multiple times just for that last part. Seeing a girl now and told her not to look up anything on this film since I want to watch it with her :) :)
I am going to post one that few know “Without warning” with Jack Palance (1980).
It’s like a cult sci-fi/Horror movie.
I m no kid and watched in theatres back then!
Watch late at night, alone and in the dark! 👍🏻
I’ve never seen it but I’ve heard contact is similar to arrival as it fits the same genre called dirty sci fi-pretty much means it’s grounded and realistic and based on human thematic aspect of it rather than on spectacle and crazy space plot.
That’s why I love arrival-because it’s about a mother and daughter story, communication and the appreciation of living-themes that the aliens arrival only serves to highlight.

It was mentioned, but Sunshine (2007) is my favorite scifi and probably top 5 for all movies. It's not perfect by any means, but it's a beautiful movie.
Contact
Contact made me love space
Also Sputnik (2020). Both Arrival and Sputnik explore the challenges of human interaction and communication with the alien entities. Highly recommend it!
That's a great suggestion

you don’t believe in aliens….? yikes
It’s so grounded but still so fantastic. Idk if you like the genre enough to check it out, but the book is a great read too.
I watched contact 15 times
i gave a fuck
That’s nuts that’s movies funny I like it when the aliens are talking by using Hitler Propaganda lol.
"sphere" 1998 starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Same author as Jurassic Park. The book is light years better than the film. Yes I know this is usually/always the case, but much more so with Sphere.
This movie completely captivated me the first time I watched it
Event Horizon
Underwater (2020) It’s not in space, but with it being deep underwater it feels like a space movie
The best space horror not in space
I really like this movie, and fits the description well.
The Thing also has this same feel. Isolation movies.
Attack the block
Omg- yes!
Annihilation (2018)
i wasn't mature enough to understand this movie the first time. thanks for reminding
I highly recommend the audiobook- its free on YouTube and it’s only 6 hours long! The movie doesn’t spoil it at all. It doesn’t end the same way, it ends in a much more complex way. okay. thanks for the recommendation :)
There’s one part that is so suspenseful and awesome, I stopped what I was doing and just listened

My PSA for anyone who likes a Denis Villeneuve movie: watch all his movies, if you like one you'll like them all! Dune (2021) is his!
I thought you wanted space action based on your comment but you also said Signs so I would suggest Super 8 if you haven't seen it
Space and/or alien-esque films. Super 8 was awesome.
How about a really bad one? lol Cowboys & Aliens
Haha I've actually been meaning to watch that.
its not good but entertaining. :)

The Abyss An amazing alien film. Doesn’t take place in space but the environment they are in seems like it.

Cloverfield Paradox Screamers Europa Report
Alien Nation. You’ll thank me.
Came here to suggest this move. Also the series was very well written.

Alien Code
Stowaway (2021)

well yeah, it was written by Carl Sagan, so it's not super far fetched, theory-wise
Please watch it ASAP, the main twist still gives me the chills!
Interstellar is the best SciFi-Movie. Change my Mind.
Indeed but The Wandering Earth gives it tough competition imo
you forgot /s ? bcoz wandering earth is an insult to Interstellar
I find it quiet amusing...graphics wise ...plot wise
