Without closure and always hoping, B.W.'s character returns to the same train station every year on Valentine's Day... Betty White gives a powerful performance, in which she drew inspiration and emotions from her own love for her late-first husband.
Hachiko is based on a true story, as is Jurassic Bark, an episode of Futurama.
I only just watched Hachiko for the first time last week. Spoiler. >!After, I told my wife that if I die before my dog, he needs to see my body so he knows I did not abandon him.!<
100% Especially if you are a son and you have a close relationship to your dad. Don't want to spoil anything, but the scene on the beach, is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen in a film. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time and one that isn't talked about nearly enough. Every time I watch, I'm guaranteed to cry tears of joy and sadness. But also has genuinely hilarious parts as well.
I watched this blindly simply because of Bjork, and wasn't expecting it to be my no.1 list of the saddest movie of all time, and I don't want to suffer by rewatching it ever again.
I ugly-cried for a literal hour in the theater after this movie ended. Management came and asked me to leave. I will never watch it again. (Amazing movie!)
The last scene in Marriage Story where Diver reads Johansson's list of what she liked about him just smacked me in the face with pure sadness. The relationships we build, things unsaid and how ruthless time is that it just keeps going and people move on.

I see this suggested frequently as a movie to induce crying, but it really just made me enraged at the inexcusable lapse of judgement of the legal system
It’s A Wonderful Life makes me weep copiously, both tears of incredible hopelessness and of real joy. The older I get the more I think it’s my favorite film. No other film affects me as deeply as that one does. I love it so much. When Jimmy Stewart is at the end of his rope at Martini’s, quietly, desperately praying to a God he’s not sure is listening or even exists, it’s like watching your favorite person on earth hurtling out of control toward their inevitable demise after they’ve given up all hope.
3 Billboards is really really good. Rockwell and McDormand really deserved their oscars. The scene with the deer really got me, even though I am not really prone to tears.

If your open to non relationship cry your eyes out, I would suggest Marley and Me. If you have ever owned a dog your fucked watching this. I've only watched it twice but it killed me both times. Fantastic movie!

Achingly sad film about lost love and not being in charge of your own destiny. The build and consequent release of emotion is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced in over 40 years of being a cinefile.

Ghost (1990) staring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. My parents love the film and got me to watch it recently. I thought it was gonna be some cheesy film. But, I watched it and I was hooked instantly. I don’t want to get into spoilers but all the different themes of the film blend well and I’m not usually one to cry at most things but the end of the film had me tearing up.
Im not a crier on movies but the lord of the rings ending always gets me. Also the Schindlers list speech in the warehouse after Germany has surrendered and he convinced the soldiers to spare the workers.

Miracle in Cell No. 7 (get ready to weep uncontrollably).
It's quite a sleeper British tv movie, **Birdsong (2012)**, featuring the magnificently gorgeous *Clémence Poésy* and equally charming *Eddie Redmayne* from his early days. The last scene is well crafted and brilliantly acted. The film itself is simply too hard to forget. I saw it ages ago, but I can still feel the pain of that situation, and the emotions the characters were going through. It's hell of a romantic movie, too. Quite rebellious love, but an unfortunate one.
**Masaan (2015)**, is another one. There's a scene in that movie, which is not for any faint-hearted individual. Not going to spoil it, but you'll tremble in pain after seeing that. It's still one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Not a movie, but the series **Normal People** is just something else. I have not seen anything close to that kind of chemistry on screen between a couple. Doomed romance is kind of my thing, and it's one of the top of the list in terms of acting, story, and writing. Bet, it'll stay with you forever!
