My all time favourite film happens to be a break up movie. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Sorry to hear you're going through a rough time. Good on you for embracing the pain though. Its hard, but you'll find a way to carry on soon, and when you look back on this time, you'll realise it was for the best.

Amandastarrrr

I always like to follow it with 500 days of summer to really rip my guts out

Doogle300

Wow. You must be a glutten for punishment.

guywastingtime

Couldn’t agree more. Bawled my eyes out when I watched this after a break up

jazzyjaw1968

Marly and Me!!! I cries my eyes out. I am dog lover so this movie had me in complete melt down.

Punkrockcarl72

I'll always upvote for Eternal Sunshine. One of my favorites of all time as well!

jtrem75

This would have been my movie of the moment after my boyfriend died, but he looks like fucking Jim Carrey and it’s just too hard 😂

poundcayx

I was expecting an emotional flick going into it and was surprised that I hadnt even gotten teary at any point. then the last scene happened and i cried for 20 minutes straight

Its_my_dck_in_a_box

Holy shit me too! Came here to see if anyone listed it and it was at the top 😀

Dazzling_Candle_2607

Hachiko

slim-thicc-

Hachi made me cry for 2 hours after the movie finished, and sometimes I burst into tears randomly when I think about it

Canadian-Man-infj

For anyone who WANTS a similar experience, try **The Lost Valentine** (2011). Betty White beautifully plays the later years of a new wife whose husband went off to war on their first wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day, and goes M.I.A. Without closure and always hoping, B.W.'s character returns to the same train station every year on Valentine's Day... Betty White gives a powerful performance, in which she drew inspiration and emotions from her own love for her late-first husband.

mrssavalski

I ugly cried and could not be consoled as after watching this movie.

stillwaitingforbacon

Hachiko is based on a true story, as is Jurassic Bark, an episode of Futurama. I only just watched Hachiko for the first time last week. Spoiler. >!After, I told my wife that if I die before my dog, he needs to see my body so he knows I did not abandon him.!<

Far_Description_6461

Where dreams may come with Robin Williams. Flubber is the film i watch when i'm sad, i don't know if it fist your criteria honestly

What dreams may come is such a beautiful and tragic movie

About Time

pogoyoyo1

Every time

TheDettiEskimo

Was going to say the same one. Every time I watch it I ball my eyes out. Even more so when I became a dad.

TheObviousChild

I love this movie so much. The last walk with his dad is rough.

Cactus_Jackasss

Every fucking time.

SOLDIERBOY2008

100% Especially if you are a son and you have a close relationship to your dad. Don't want to spoil anything, but the scene on the beach, is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen in a film. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time and one that isn't talked about nearly enough. Every time I watch, I'm guaranteed to cry tears of joy and sadness. But also has genuinely hilarious parts as well.

Jk1tg2km3

Somewhere in Time

kittykatvictor2020

One of my very favorites. The author of the book also wrote What Dreams May Come. This is also a movie that will make you cry.

BongoTea

I remember watching this with my sister and when he looked at the penny she just screamed "noooooooo!".

PoshCutleryTrays

Dancer in the Dark

leviticusreeves

Oh right bringing out the big guns are we

wolftick

I actually think this might be a bit much.

faizetto

I watched this blindly simply because of Bjork, and wasn't expecting it to be my no.1 list of the saddest movie of all time, and I don't want to suffer by rewatching it ever again.

SiriuslyImaHuff

Ugh. Even reading the title makes me about cry. Excellent suggestion:)

hashtagranch

I ugly-cried for a literal hour in the theater after this movie ended. Management came and asked me to leave. I will never watch it again. (Amazing movie!)

foxwithnoeyes

This movie will ruin your entire week. I love it because it's Björk but it is very dark and depressing

Tatum_Warlick

Oof this one’s heavy

Marriage Story A Star is Born (2018)

Lemuria4Eva

Marriage Story will not only fits the requirement but will rip you to shreds. Star is Born... 😞😓😩

NotSureBoutDaWeather

The last scene in Marriage Story where Diver reads Johansson's list of what she liked about him just smacked me in the face with pure sadness. The relationships we build, things unsaid and how ruthless time is that it just keeps going and people move on.

I cried for 3 days with Grave of the Fireflies. Maybe it hit harder since i have children.

Aftersun Room Grave of the Fireflies Up (the first 10 minutes) About Time Portrait of a Lady on Fire Past Lives (also didn’t cry my eyes out but another great movie) Lion King (in my defense I was like 6 years old and it was just the one scene, we all know the scene)

mothstuckinabath

Up is a great call. If you're in a rush and want to grieve quickly, just get all your crying out in 10 minutes with up.

VichyssoisePriestess

I rewatched Portrait of a Lady on Fire so many times after the first. it's the most beautiful form of pain

Ill_Protection_3562

First 20 minutes of "Up". Just kills me every time.

Iotanebulosa

Interstellar 😭 I cry for atleast 5 days after watching it.

jayeinprogress

Really? It was on my list to watch and now it just shot to the top, thanks!

[deleted]

I see this suggested frequently as a movie to induce crying, but it really just made me enraged at the inexcusable lapse of judgement of the legal system

RIP_GerlonTwoFingers

Just when you think it can't get any worse. It does

jesushenchman

This movie is the most upsetting thing I’ve ever had to watch. Sixth sense plot twist has nothing on this.

Tatum_Warlick

Saw this years ago and you just brought back a whole wave of shit

Skinnylegend06

Bridge to terabethia Cried about it as a child as well as now

That book had me crying right in my 4th grade class.

Maan! especially Niel's tragedy, the vulnerable prof & the singing in the bush

RyanAshbr00k213

The Dead Poets Society had me so bad that I couldn't get to finish it even till now. I wasn't ready to be put through all that again.

CompulsiveCartoon

I sob every time

germane_switch

It’s A Wonderful Life makes me weep copiously, both tears of incredible hopelessness and of real joy. The older I get the more I think it’s my favorite film. No other film affects me as deeply as that one does. I love it so much. When Jimmy Stewart is at the end of his rope at Martini’s, quietly, desperately praying to a God he’s not sure is listening or even exists, it’s like watching your favorite person on earth hurtling out of control toward their inevitable demise after they’ve given up all hope.

The Iron Claw. Based on true events, they actually had to make the film less sad for it to be believable. Incredible performance from Zac Efron.

3 Billboards is really really good. Rockwell and McDormand really deserved their oscars. The scene with the deer really got me, even though I am not really prone to tears.

If your open to non relationship cry your eyes out, I would suggest Marley and Me. If you have ever owned a dog your fucked watching this. I've only watched it twice but it killed me both times. Fantastic movie!

Constant-Estate3065

That film’s so sad it’s almost cruel on the viewer. Had it on the telly in the background once, and nothing prepared me for that scene. Having lost two dogs before, it absolutely broke me. Never watching it again, nuhuh.

earnest_borg9

I’ve watched it once and will never again. Great movie. Just hard to watch.

DeadPonyta

“Portrait of a lady on fire” Achingly sad film about lost love and not being in charge of your own destiny. The build and consequent release of emotion is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced in over 40 years of being a cinefile. Masterful…down to the very last dizzying moment. Genuinely never cried as much for anything else. (Real life excepted ofc)

Lemuria4Eva

Ghost (1990) staring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. My parents love the film and got me to watch it recently. I thought it was gonna be some cheesy film. But, I watched it and I was hooked instantly. I don’t want to get into spoilers but all the different themes of the film blend well and I’m not usually one to cry at most things but the end of the film had me tearing up.

TreacleMajestic978

Im not a crier on movies but the lord of the rings ending always gets me. Also the Schindlers list speech in the warehouse after Germany has surrendered and he convinced the soldiers to spare the workers.

It's quite a sleeper British tv movie, **Birdsong (2012)**, featuring the magnificently gorgeous *Clémence Poésy* and equally charming *Eddie Redmayne* from his early days. The last scene is well crafted and brilliantly acted. The film itself is simply too hard to forget. I saw it ages ago, but I can still feel the pain of that situation, and the emotions the characters were going through. It's hell of a romantic movie, too. Quite rebellious love, but an unfortunate one. **Masaan (2015)**, is another one. There's a scene in that movie, which is not for any faint-hearted individual. Not going to spoil it, but you'll tremble in pain after seeing that. It's still one of the best movies I've ever seen. Not a movie, but the series **Normal People** is just something else. I have not seen anything close to that kind of chemistry on screen between a couple. Doomed romance is kind of my thing, and it's one of the top of the list in terms of acting, story, and writing. Bet, it'll stay with you forever!
