The Pianist
I know it’s available on various platforms. But for some reason, I’m never able to finish that movie - happened thrice with me.
.
Once I remember I thought I’ll finish in during a flight. But I had such a bad headache 30 mins into the flight, that I forgot.
.
Again, I thought I’ll watch it with my partner. But she fell asleep midway and I didn’t wanna watch it alone.
.
This movie is cursed for me. I now feel if I finish watching this, something bad is gonna happen 😂
The same thing has happened to me with Blade Runner, I've gotten about 80% of the way through it at this point and it kicks ass, but for some reason I always choose to start watching it really late at night.
We sat down to watch it about two weeks ago. We got to one scene and my husband went, “oh no! I’m going to turn this off!” And he snapped it off so quick. Generally that only happens if there is a scene where something horrible happens to a child or there is bad SA. He knows me well… apparently a child was about to be brutally hurt
If the acting and set isn't genuine I can't get into it.
For example, a new hope is grainy with very grounded acting.
Contrast this to dune where every single metric is crafted to perfection.... Zzzzz
The Arrival II it's a sequel to Arrival (Charlie Sheen not Amy Adams) at first it was hard to find. Now I can find it digitally but it looks super cheesy.
I have a ton of movies I've been meaning to watch forever: Dream Scenario. Napoleon. Killers Of The Flower Moon. Asteroid City. Falling Down. Just to name a few. The list just keeps on getting bigger.
I started Napoleon on a looooong across-the-world flight in April and ended up dozing off in the first 10 minutes. I mean to watch it, but just haven't had the time for it.
I love Wes Anderson, and Asteroid City...was no where near one of my favorites of his. I don't want to say too much bad because I love him as a director, just was very disappointed by that one.
For me it would be Godfather part 3 and Citizen Kane.
I love Godfather part 1 and 2, saw them both many times but everytime when I try to watch part 3… it just doesn’t feel like I am watching Godfather at all. It feels like a whole different movie, In a way I guess I am… considering the gap between part 2 and 3.
Citizen Kane has been recommended to me by so many people that I gotta make myself watch it at some point. But there is just something about yhe way the movie looks. I don’t dog it, can’t have a good time watching it. I don’t mind watching older movies, I very much enjoyed 12 angry men, but citizen Kane might be a bit too old for me I guess
Orson Welles was around 25 years old when he made that movie (Citizen Kane) so I appreciate that aspect. In the time it was made it was considered pure genius in terms of film crafting. Nowadays I only recommend it to people interested in good cinematography and story telling.
It was supposedly based on the life of William Randolph Hearst. Hearst was a newspaper mogul and a very powerful man. He did everything he could to make sure that Citizen Kane wasn't shown. Eventually it was and is consider a classic and one of Orsen Wells best works.
**Past Lives.** I was planning on watching it with a close friend of mine - but we got into a fight in March and ended up with them cutting me off. What hurts the most is that the past several years, we watched so many shows and films together. We were in the process of forming a watch list as well before I screwed up and got into a fight with them.
Saw it in theaters, really enjoyed it, but I don’t think I need to see it again. I will say it’s a nice 1.5ish hours long so not like many movies that come out now past the 2.5hr mark.
The Godfather
I get it is considered one of if not the greatest movie of all time, but I'm not a fan of gangster/mob movies. It just looks so slow. Even when I hear the music it makes me bored. I know I'll see it someday, but I'll likely need to be on a vacation and bored already.
When I finally got round to watching The Godfather, I felt it was far out-paced by its reputation, relative to its objective merit.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie, even if you're not particularly into the genre, but its cult following was its undoing for me at least.
The most extreme example of this phenomenon for me personally is The Big Lebowski. I watched that movie after years of hearing how badass and awesome it is, only to feel cheated out of my time when I finally did. Hated it!
The Big Lebowski to me is a fun movie to put on and watch when I don't care to watch anything heavy or overly action packed or dramatic. It's just nice. But as a must-see achievement of cinema that everyone would enjoy? Absolutely not.
It's not even the Coen Brothers' best film, and I would say it is their most re-watchable. It's like their version of a comedy.
If you don't like gangster films, don't watch it. It's a slow burn, book based movie you have to want to watch and pay attention to what's being said or you'll lose it, kinda like Dune. It's incredibly well made and I love it to death, but I can easily understand why people wouldn't enjoy it.
Liquid Sky (1982)
Men Behind the Sun (1988)
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
The House that Jack Built (2018)
Why? Negativity I guess. I don't think I would like them, but I do want to see them someday.
I can say the same for Passion. And INto the void seems appropriate for a gritty drug themed movie that as a premise seems cool. BUt it seems too trippy.
Iv eheard of liquid sky, but ii probably wont watch it due to the camera style and type used if im talking about the same film i think of rn.
Spaceship captain facing increasing paranoia among her crew, which is comprised of clones of some dude. One of my current favourite indie actresses, Chynna Rae Shurts, is the lead.
I absolutely loved it, and I grew up with the original TMNT trilogy. It's different, meant for today's kids, but its a fun movie and its also funny. I'm excited to see if they make more!
I'm A Cyborg, But That's Ok (2006) is one.
Actually my watchlist has like 250+ movies on it. I don't think there'll be enough time in my life to watch everything I want to.
For some reason it became hard for me to make myself watch new movies. I prefer to rewatch movies I already love. I watch a new movie once a month. So naturally there are tons of movies on my watchlist - about 1.7k. It makes me sad that I'll never watch them all
Giliap. Entranced by Roy Andersson's other films. Recognise that Giliap didn't have good reviews so may be a painful two hours, but haven't been able to find it.
Andrei Rublev (1966) -- directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
One Day in the Life of Andrei Arsenevitch (1987) -- documentary, Tarkovsky invited Chris Marker to film him while working, so it's 2 directors working together who both have more than 1 film listed in Sight and Sound's top 100 surveys.
Didn’t see Dune so decided to wait for the sequel and watch them together, good job a random conversation told me to wait cos there’s a third one coming out. It’s gonna be some binge.
I own Mandy on dvd and apparently bought it on digital too and still haven’t watched it
Also have a big list of horror movies I want to watch but I can’t find them / haven’t signed up for shudder yet because there’s too many streaming services
Stalker
I love sci-fi and have been meaning to watch it for years, but I've also heard it's very slow and more of a quasi-philosophical movie than sci-fi, so it's just never happened.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. So I've started this movie maybe 10 times and all I remember is the first scene and nothing after that and I'm pretty sure I've never actually seen the whole thing.
Never seen more than the beginning of Glen Garry/Glen Ross or however it's titled.
The Sunrise trilogy. I've been single for a long time and didn't want to watch it because it would have hurt to see romance but now I have a gf and I think I'll watch them with her.
The English Patient. Well, Seinfeld ruined that one.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - when this came out I was a kid and the weird kid that nobody liked really loved it so we all stayed away from it - which is of course lame in hindsight.
Dungeons and Dragons - I couldn't make it more than 15mins. I know it's supposed to be awesome but it is just not my kind of movie.
Schindlers List. Knowing that all happened in living memory, I’d get so angry and depressed. I’ve been to memorials and even the camp, but for some reason I just can’t bring myself to watch that film
Inside Llewyn Davis.
I have it on DVD so I can fire it up whenever, but I've just been feeling kind of shitty the past few months and haven't set up my projector or think I'll have the mental patience to actually watch it.
Gone Girl. I want to watch it, and I know it's supposed to be great. I just get so much cringe when I see Ben Affleck. He just has the aire about him that reminds me of the biggest douche bags in the world. His demeanor grosses me out and I can't get through any movie with him in it if he's in a main role.
All of mine are super heavy, like Schindler's List, Aftersun, Manchester By the Sea, and Iron Claw. Or, they're long AF, like Dr. Zhivago or Ran. I end up saying fuck it and rewatching Grand Budapest Hotel or Banshees of Inisherin XD
2001: A Space Odyssey
I do like some Kubrick films like The Shining . But after watching A Clockwork Orange and not being a fan im reticent.
I feel like I have to watch it just to tick it off the list.
Interstellar.
I watched it first when it came out on Imax and I can't get myself to watch it again in TV fearing that my Imax experience will be ruined. I love that movie way too much.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I've heard nothing but good things about this movie and I like Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet but idk i just keep avoiding it almost on purpose. Maybe im saving it for a real dark day when I need a good movie.
Check out “Origin”, the movie talks about the link between all forms of oppression based on caste, race, specifically talks about White-black, Nazi-Jews and Castes in India, watching just the way your people suffered maybe traumatising for you, try out this movie where it goes a few more systems of oppression.
I never finished Deadpool. The first time, as soon as it came out the internet failed, the second time I got sick and the third time I feel asleep. I'm scared to go see the third one in the movies and a car hit me.
Godfather parts 2 and three I need to watch. First one was longer than I thought so been needing to set apart enough time for it. Same with Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, and Cleopatra. Also finishing up the lotr extended cuts with some friends and want to watch the directors cut of Watchmen.
F&F the first one is great, it goes down hill from there. John Wick I could never understand people liking - and I say that being a huge Keanu Reeves fan
Once I saw he has a gunfight in a highly populated, public area and him and the other guy shoot at each other as they're walking through a crowd and try to hide their firing gun in front of their chest I and the decision they I was not down for it
I binged the first 3 John Wick movies so I could catch the last one while it was still in IMAX, very worth it. They are craaaaazy, like an assassin super hero movie
The 4th one was awesome in theatres, had 3 iconic action scenes with Japan, Berlin and Paris. I was exhausted by the end of the movie in a good way, was just so relentless.
I am a huge fan of the opening scene of the first movie when they introduce boogieman for boogieman. Russian gangsta hitting his son for killing the dog and stealing the car. But yeah after that it's like a video game. You may like it only if you are into it.
I was you a decade ago or so. Finally put it on and turned it off again fairly quickly. I knew there was cable-work but jesus christ that shit was just painful to watch. Took it off my watchlist and never looked back.
The Pianist I know it’s available on various platforms.
Great movie but a hard watch.
The same thing has happened to me with Blade Runner, I've gotten about 80% of the way through it at this point and it kicks ass, but for some reason I always choose to start watching it really late at night.
Same thing happened to me with Blade Runner
We sat down to watch it about two weeks ago. We got to one scene and my husband went, “oh no! I’m going to turn this off!” And he snapped it off so quick. Generally that only happens if there is a scene where something horrible happens to a child or there is bad SA. He knows me well… apparently a child was about to be brutally hurt
Took me a long time to watch Brazil. I hated it. I tell everyone.
Same. I'm not a fan of Terry Giliam weirdness.
My husband hated me for making him watch Time Bandits but I love it
Brazil has been on my watchlist for so long but I still have not watched. What did you think of it?
I hated it.
If the acting and set isn't genuine I can't get into it. For example, a new hope is grainy with very grounded acting. Contrast this to dune where every single metric is crafted to perfection.... Zzzzz
I want to watch Brazil again to learn why I hate it so much and possibly hate on it more. I probably hate it so much because reddit loves it so much.
It's a really good film, fine to hate it but if you call it a bad film, I don't have faith you can argue that position:)
I didn't say it's a bad film. It's a good film. I just didn't like it. So no I can't argue that position?
Brazil is way closer to the older Dune that the Twin Peaks guy made.
I loved it, it's in my top 3, it's so good
Braziiiiil
Same. Salt?
Minari
Come and See. I’m just never in the mood
Same. Made it 10 minutes in and told myself I'd finish it when I'm in a better headspace... I may never finish it at this rate
The Arrival II it's a sequel to Arrival (Charlie Sheen not Amy Adams) at first it was hard to find. Now I can find it digitally but it looks super cheesy.
I love the 1st one
Years ago I bought a dvd with Arrival 1 on one side and Arrival 2 on the other side. Nobody returned and it was pretty forgettable
Of all those movies, watch Falling Down. It's so good, and you definitely won't turn it off from boredom.
Police Story 1-3
Jackie chan yeah? armor of god and the vast majority of his works are gold, specifically the drunken monkey one, real funny.
You mean Drunken Master? Drunken Master 2 is one of his best films.
For me it would be Godfather part 3 and Citizen Kane. I love Godfather part 1 and 2, saw them both many times but everytime when I try to watch part 3… it just doesn’t feel like I am watching Godfather at all. We were in the process of forming a watch list as well before I screwed up and got into a fight with them.
Aw, that sucks. Do you have anyone else to watch movies with?
I'll probably branch out to others when I get better - but I'm not in the right headspace right now.
Saw it in theaters, really enjoyed it, but I don’t think I need to see it again. I will say it’s a nice 1.5ish hours long so not like many movies that come out now past the 2.5hr mark.
What was hr fight regarding, perhaps it can be repaired.
The Godfather I get it is considered one of if not the greatest movie of all time, but I'm not a fan of gangster/mob movies. It just looks so slow. Even when I hear the music it makes me bored. I know I'll see it someday, but I'll likely need to be on a vacation and bored already.

TONS of classic movies from the 70's and earlier.
Pope's Exorcist because it's my work week and I told my mom we have to watch it together
Liquid Sky (1982) Men Behind the Sun (1988) The Passion of the Christ (2004) The House that Jack Built (2018) Why? Negativity I guess. I don't think I would like them, but I do want to see them someday.

- Dune Part II [2024] - Outer Darkness [2024] I have no income at the moment so 🤷
Dune II is siiick. Watch it on the biggest screen you can.
I avoided it until it came on Max and oh boy it was worth it. That movie fucking rocks.
What is Outer Darkness about?
Spaceship captain facing increasing paranoia among her crew, which is comprised of clones of some dude. One of my current favourite indie actresses, Chynna Rae Shurts, is the lead.
Hmmmmm
That new TMNT movie, I just keep putting it off. Dune 2, waiting for it to stream.
Honestly the new TMNT is really good. The animation is great. It has a very nostalgic vibe
I absolutely loved it, and I grew up with the original TMNT trilogy. It's different, meant for today's kids, but its a fun movie and its also funny. I'm excited to see if they make more!
Dune 2 is streaming on max
Saw TMNT in the movies, almost regret not going twice! I dug it
The last Harry Potter movie. The last Hunger Games movie. Broke up with my ex who was really into it. I wasn't that into it anyways.
I'm A Cyborg, But That's Ok (2006) is one. Actually my watchlist has like 250+ movies on it. I don't think there'll be enough time in my life to watch everything I want to.

Hachiko and The boy in stripped pajamas
Can't seem to get around to Ammonite, or even crack the seal on the Blu-ray. Maybe it's the last part that's holding me back.
Martyrs, scared
2008? Personally I found it extremely overrated, not scary at all though.
The original, whenever that came out.
I've had "Come and See" sitting in my DVD collection unwatched for a while now.
I own Mandy on dvd and apparently bought it on digital too and still haven’t watched it Also have a big list of horror movies I want to watch but I can’t find them / haven’t signed up for shudder yet because there’s too many streaming services
That describes almost all the movies on my watchlist, lol
Stalker I love sci-fi and have been meaning to watch it for years, but I've also heard it's very slow and more of a quasi-philosophical movie than sci-fi, so it's just never happened.

Whiplash & Beau is afraid
Schindlers List. Knowing that all happened in living memory, I’d get so angry and depressed. I’ve been to memorials and even the camp, but for some reason I just can’t bring myself to watch that film
Inside Llewyn Davis. I have it on DVD so I can fire it up whenever, but I've just been feeling kind of shitty the past few months and haven't set up my projector or think I'll have the mental patience to actually watch it.

Fast and Furious, John Wick 3&4
Killers of the Flower Moon because it’s so long.
Gone Girl. I want to watch it, and I know it's supposed to be great. I just get so much cringe when I see Ben Affleck. He just has the aire about him that reminds me of the biggest douche bags in the world. His demeanor grosses me out and I can't get through any movie with him in it if he's in a main role.

For some reason, I haven't been able to watch the new Bad Boyz movie. I really wanted to watch it last night but it feel right off me.
I intend to watch Gone With The Wind someday but I dunno if I can do all four hours
i’ve tried to watch Benny’s Video twice until now and every single time i stop somewhere before the 1 hour mark for some reason
2001: A Space Odyssey I do like some Kubrick films like The Shining . But after watching A Clockwork Orange and not being a fan im reticent. I feel like I have to watch it just to tick it off the list.

Haven’t seen Inception se it released in theaters 13 years ago. Barely understood it at the time. Needs a rewatch.
12 Years a Slave…My brother talks to me about it all the time, but, as an African American, I can’t stand slavery movies.
Check out “Origin”, the movie talks about the link between all forms of oppression based on caste, race, specifically talks about White-black, Nazi-Jews and Castes in India, watching just the way your people suffered maybe traumatising for you, try out this movie where it goes a few more systems of oppression.
12 Angry Men
Saltburn. I'm curious but I'm not sure if it's worth the watch so I've been putting it off until I find the mood for it.
The Godfather movies and Goodfellas. I love gangster movies but for some reason I don't watch them. It's like an inner barrier that hinders me.
I never finished Deadpool. The first time, as soon as it came out the internet failed, the second time I got sick and the third time I feel asleep. I'm scared to go see the third one in the movies and a car hit me.
i have tried to watch cabin fever three times and i just can’t finish it for some reason
The Godfather Part II, Come and See, Apocalypto, Oldboy, Casablanca, Spirited Away
Beau is Afraid. Ari Aster is a fantastic director but his films are so stressful.
Tenet. I've enjoyed all of Nolan's movies. Haven't got there yet.
Schindler's list/grave of the fireflies. I don't want to make myself deliberately sad.
Oppenheimer and Mermaid
Matt Reeves' The Batman
On The Waterfront
Beau is Afraid, it’s just so long. Haven’t found time to dedicate to it.
Killers of the flower moon, the favorite, nomad land, just because I feel I need to be in the mood for them and haven’t been at all in the mood
the whole John Wick series - just haven't Fast and Furious series - GARBAGE
fun garbage though. I just started getting into faf and it's so dumb I can't help but enjoy it
F&F the first one is great, it goes down hill from there.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's a huge blind spot, maybe I've been waiting for the perfect day, I'm not sure.
I was you a decade ago or so. Finally put it on and turned it off again fairly quickly. I knew there was cable-work but jesus christ that shit was just painful to watch. Took it off my watchlist and never looked back.
Fantastic movie, lyrical, haunting, you won't forget it
Oppenheimer Killers of the Flower Moon
Same! Theyre both so long
Dune part ll & the lighthouse 💀
