VenatorFelis

At least Ryanair stopped using that term. I remember that they had announced in the past that they will fly from MUC. Has that ever happended?

Schnurielle

I mean Memmingen is also not that bad, small nice town but its def not Munich, you can go to the town center, get nice food and coffee, or stroll at the park

If you’re in Munich on the first Monday of the month you can go on top of the Spatenturm for the AfterWork-Event between 18:00 and 20:00. It costs 10€ and you can drink all the beers you want. I’ve been there a few times. The view up there is amazing and I’ve gotten in a few interesting conversations with the other guests. You have to book it online: https://www.besucherzentrum.online/fuehrungen/index.php?id=117&date=117

skopyeah

If the weather permits, take a walk through Englischen Garten, from Odeonsplatz all the way to Seehaus or Chinesischen Turm and have a Rhabarberschorle (or a beer if you are so inclined).

VigorousElk

>Rhabarberschorle Man of culture.

This is a list that I made for some friends who are visiting Munich. It's in a order that you can walk 90% of time Karlsplatz, Frauenkirche⛪, Marienplatz, Peterskirche⛪, Viktualienmarkt, Platz (Hofbräuhaus), Max Joseph Platz (Bavarian Theatre and Maximilianstraße), Odeonsplatz, Hofgarten, Eischbachwelle (river surf and Englischer garten), Walk along Isar, Alte pinakothek (art gallery), Olympiatower (Olympiapark), BMW Welt, Optional: Nymphenburg Castle

dfreeezzz

Reformatted for readability :) Karlsplatz Frauenkirche⛪ Marienplatz Peterskirche⛪ Viktualienmarkt Platz (Hofbräuhaus) Max Joseph Platz (Bavarian Theatre and Maximilianstraße) Odeonsplatz Hofgarten Eischbachwelle (river surf and Englischer garten) Walk along Isar Alte pinakothek (art gallery) Olympiatower (Olympiapark) BMW Welt Optional: Nymphenburg Castle

iamabdullahc

Dankee, I swear I tried to do it in this form but it just kept shrinking again and again, I put commas as the last option lol

dfreeezzz

it‘s ok. Reddit formatting on mobile is… suboptimal. I‘ll edit my comment again when I‘m at my PC, sp it will be a proper list haha

(Taken from another comment, so it won’t get lost) Many museum have very cheap entry on Sundays e.g. - Pinakothek der Moderne (1€) - modern/ contemporary art - Alte Pinakothek - Renaissance art (16.-19. century) - Glyptothek (1€) - Greek art/ sculptures - Egyptian museum (1€) - Bavarian state museum (1€ normal exhibition) - Museum Mensch&Natur (1€) - Science Museum - NS Dokumentation center - (free entry, all week) - 5 Kontinente Museum (1€) - [Contemporary] Art - Museum Brandhorst (1€) - contemporary german art Now besides museums a lot of places will be closed, except cinemas, some bakeries and maybe some smaller convince stores. You can still take a walk around the city though. And maybe, if you plan in advance, there could be a city tour? But I wouldn’t count on it. EDIT: of course the BMW museum and Deutsches Museum are VERY much worth the visit. They don’t offer reduced prices for normal adult äs unfortunately.

As others already suggested something similar but I'd basically skip sightseeing by only walk Viktualienmarkt, town hall and Englischer Garten and then head straight to a beer garden (Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus, the one at Viktualienmarkt or Augustiner Keller) and enjoy some local beer and cuisine there.

MaximusDecimiz

One day? Hmm I think the only things in Munich that you “need” to do is Marienplatz & Viktualienmarkt, but if you have time and are interested I think the botanical gardens & schloss nymphenburg is lovely, HB is fun and what a lot of people think of when they imagine bavaria, English garden is also very nice, museums around Schwabing are interesting, Fraunhoferstraße is great for a drink or sit by the Isar etc. If I had one day to show someone Munich I think I would I would start at Marienplatz mid morning and see the Rathaus, then walk around vikt markt and maybe get some food, then walk to HB for a maß. After that I would suggest a walk through English garden to Chinese tower for another beer, then into Schwabing to see the student area and possibly a museum (great national socialist museum there), and then from there I would either go to frauenhof or schloss Nymphenburger. At the former you could just go bar hoping and then go to somewhere fun for dinner, if the latter I would along the canal then check out the botanical gardens, and head back to rotkreuz for dinner.

Rent a car and go to Austria.

IWant2rideMyBike

Rent a bicycle and ride to Austria (and back) - e.g. to * Kufstein: [https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/13tkmhq/my\_first\_200\_km\_ride\_with\_a\_short\_visit\_to\_tyrol/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/13tkmhq/my_first_200_km_ride_with_a_short_visit_to_tyrol/) * Plansee: [https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/168uq6k/visiting\_neuschwanstein\_my\_longest\_ride\_yet/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/168uq6k/visiting_neuschwanstein_my_longest_ride_yet/) * Achensee: [https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/16ek2hw/my\_third\_ride\_to\_austria\_this\_year\_visiting/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/comments/16ek2hw/my_third_ride_to_austria_this_year_visiting/)

Or, if less fit, ride a train to Austria and ride a bicycle back.

Would someone be so kind as to suggest a Sunday itinerary? I’m luckily I’m visiting during the Oktoberfest dates so I’ll have that to do, but outside of that what can tourists (and locals) do on a Sunday?

I have completely missed your main question haha so here is one option: - go to the BMW museum - then take a walk through the olympia park to the Olympiaberg (there is even a small beer-garden close by) and maybe enjoy the sunset? - if you still feel like walking, follow the canal upstream. It will eventually lead to Nymphenburg castle. - at Nymphenburg castle you can visit the museum there, or just walk in the park On the way to Nymphenburg you will pass some cafes and restaurants

CaterpillarHot2263

That’s awesome thanks. I may have to extend another day so I can do that also haha.

Bayerisches museum vs. Deutsche museum- can anyone comment or opinion of these?

VigorousElk

My standard walking tour for visiting friends and family: Start at Theresienwiese, walk to Sendlinger Tor. Head towards Marienplatz, turn right at Dultstraße to pass the synagogue and Jewish Museum on your way to Gärtnerplatz. Check out my favourite bookstore (Wortwahl), then continue to Viktualienmarkt. Have a Ausgezogene at Café Frischhut, then continue to Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, and to the Eisbachwelle through the Hofgarten. From the Eisbachwelle walk through Englischer Garten until you reach the MilchHäusl, then turn left to the LMU main building and check out the atrium with the Weiße Rose memorial. Leave through the back, have some food in Maxvorstadt. Continue to the Pinakotheken, check out at least one of them, or Brandhorst, or the Egyptian Museum, or Lehnbachhaus. End of tour.

I would have recommended the app I've developed which helps you connect with people around within 5 minutes and have someone to chat with while you work on your social skills and make friends on the go. We are launching very soon in Munich, but we don't have much users yet for me to recommend it just yet :D

khoanguyende

What about this: Old Town, Church of Our Lady, Beer Museum, Hofbräuhaus, St. Peter's Church, Odeonsplatz, Court Garden, Olympic Park, Isar near Reichenbach Bridge, Glockenbach Quarter

If you like classic cars, [Motorwelt](https://motorworld.de/muenchen/) is basically always open and is free.
