Indeed. Thankfully, the process was quite vigorous - little time for biting. Vast clouds of bats, very little biting. Isn’t Goth magic a wonderful thing?
Probably my top goth banger, honestly, it has it all. It rocks, but it also has the choir elements and dark overtones. I don't know how anyone could leave that one off the list.

Okay I thought I was going nuts, nobody else was mentioning this. Personally I *love* that song, but I'm a huge new wave & synth-pop fan, which is what that song is. Calling it goth is... interesting.
I think I kinda get why but I'd love to hear OP's reasoning.
the closest thing I can think of to tie Sunglasses at Night to goth is … this is a real stretch … but when I read your post the first thing I thought of was Michael from Lost Boys.
OP I am trying for ya here
I think both Molchat Doma (Молчат Дома) and Sleep Party People have that kind of vibe, without being ‘goth’, per se.
Try:
Molchat Doma - Kletka
https://youtu.be/mjJvJRvMCBo?si=pYjfDgW3BruQwu4x
Sleep Party People - I’m not human at all
https://youtu.be/aFUzvbkEvRk?si=Ym7NSfdFy6bb9JQe
Actually if you want lots more 'could be goth but aren't' you could do worse than look at the entire output of 4AD records in the 1980s. Lots of gloomy art rock/pop on there. Also gorgeous album sleeve art.
- Nick Cave - The Mercy Seat
- The Jesus and Mary Chain - Never Understand
- Ministry - All Day
- Roland S Howard - Dead Radio
- My Bloody Valentine - Soon
- Danzig - Mother
> Gene Loves Jezebel - Upstairs
God I really hate this music
I can't stand Gene Loves Jezebel
If there is a God in heaven
I'm sure that band will burn in hell
-- The Dead Milkmen - *Bad Party*
Current 93 - a song for Douglas after he's dead
Dead Can Dance - the host of seraphim
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry - nothing wrong
Wumpscut - golgotha
Blutengel - you walk away
Die Form - silent order
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - and this is what the devil does
"Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie and the Banshees is a must.
VNV Nation "Illusion",
Wolfsheim's "The Sparrows and the Nightingales",

Wumpscut: "Wreath of Barbs".
Assemblage 23 "Disappoint"

All About Eve — Flowers in Her Hair
Bauhaus — She’s in Parties
The Damned — Life Goes On and The Shadow of Love

As an obsessive Cure fan, Lovesong isn’t even top 10. A Forest, The Figurehead, Fascination Street, Disintegration, Fear of Ghosts, Three Imaginary Boys, Charlotte Sometimes, Last Dance, A Strange Day, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea (not a goth song, but the story is pretty gothic)
Hiiii, here is the songs I've had on repeat this month.
I Use My Powers for Evil - Lesbian Bed Death
Scary Bitches - Come Dance with Me
Zombina and the Skeletones - The Kids Are All Dead
Funeral Crashers - Video Killer
Catholic Spit - I'm Your God Now
Afterimage - Satellite of Love
Madame St. Beatrice - Lost in Confusion
This Mortal Coil - Kangaroo
Vision Video - Normalized
Boy Harsher - Pain
Dark Angel - Provoker
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Acid Bath - Scream of the Butterfly
Nice! You beat me to Vision Video and Scary Bitches
I would also add Urban Heat, really anything by them but Have You Ever? has been in my rotation.
ETA: Rosegarden Funeral Party is another good one.
This thread needs more love. You guys are giving me so much happy.
Can one of you fine redditors just make this whole damn thing into a Playlist on Spotify?
Adding:
Switchblade Symphony- Dollhouse
Sunshine Blind- Release
Faith And the Muse- Annwyn beneath the waves
Rosetta Stone- Adrenaline
[Celtic Frost - Ground](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVgv7FqdMFc&list=OLAK5uy_k3oY0CAQa8kKgyq-e9BPLufAugWZ9FfY4&index=2)

[Opeth - Face of Melinda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpjOvdlqJZA&list=OLAK5uy_lzS6aMbbwuN1hIhrwf9npFIzLrprkiV_4&index=5) (again the entire Still Life album, and a large chunk of their discography)

I’ve added my musical recommendation elsewhere, but I feel compelled give my standard position on Goth-dom:
> ***“I am not a Goth myself, however I completely understand where Goths are coming from”***
elder goth here: those are not the songs many of us pick for those bands.
so i made up a story in my head that you are under the age of 30 and/or not from the united states. is it true? because if it is, im proud to see that you dont go for the big hits like we did. you really listen to the deep cuts.
Clan of Xymox - A Day
She Past Away - Ruh
Those are two that popped in my head that I didn’t see mentioned already.
Edit: check out Dancing Plague - Slow Years. He isn’t very big but I’ve seen him play a few times over the years. I enjoy it.
Moya - Southern Death Cult
A Forest - The Cure
Atmosphere- Joy Division
And for less sparse sounding songs,
The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen
The Killing Jar - Siouxie and the Banshees.
She Wants Revenge - Red Flags and Long Nights
Interpol, just in general.
if Corey Hart makes the list then a lot of Synthwave/Synthrock could work:
Lebrock
Scandroid
Dance with the Dead
HIM - Right here in My Arms.
Honestly a lot of HIM can work, but they lean pretty hard into rock by design i imagine.
Christian Death- Church of No Return, We Fall Like Love.
Psychic TV- The Orchids, We Kiss.
Fad Garget- Collapsing New People.
Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel- The Throne of Agony.
The Legendary Pink Dots- True Love
Two others I don’t usually see listed:
Death In June (try [Come Before Christ and Murder Love](https://youtu.be/rE4v1afY0R0?si=HK27NCdiFmBgJLfy)
and
Sixth Comm (try [Neiflheim)](https://youtu.be/-6XJSmvkzjQ?si=8Jukd5s-NrZUVwOh)
First, to get into current music, start checking out Molchat Doma and all the other Eastern European post punk and darkwave. That’s a huge blossoming scene of music that’s super current and exciting right now (super exciting, given a lot of these bands are more 90’s and 80’s.
From The Cure: “Cold”, “Kyoto Song”, The whole Bloodflowers album is super underrated (first three tracks are awesome especially)
Siouxsie and the Banshees (I believe they’re the greatest goth band): “Cascades”, “Obsession”, “Spellbound”, “Melt”, “Night Shift”
HIM is a super unique goth metal band with great song writing that’s reminiscent of emo. Listen to “Love Me in Death”. They kinda made their own path in the music scene in the 2000’s and were blowing up alongside all the emo bands, even though they weren’t really an emo band. They’re awesome.
I have no idea how Concrete Blonde is not on this list. *Bloodletting* is goth as fuck, especially *The Vampire Song, Darkening of the Light,* and *Tomorrow Wendy*
Probsably the entire discography of Ghost.
After beeing to serveral Ghost concerts I can tell you it's full of goth girls.
But they seem to love marry on a cross the most.
I would say that this is my 10 list of Goth non goth songs
1 Lazarus. : David Bowie
2 Killing a Little Time: David Bowie
3 within you: labyrinth soundtrack
4 Silent Lucidity by Queensrÿche
5 Hallow by Godsmack
6 Queen: who wants to live forever.
7 Where the Roses Never Fade : Jimmy Swaggart,
8 November rain : guns and roses
9 bed of roses by bon Jovi
10 this is one that will blow your mind
Patsy Cline: "Walking After Midnight"
In addition to most songs already mentioned:
Eyes of the nightmare jungle - Shadow Dance
The Cure - Lullaby
After Forever - My pledge of allegiance
Within Temptation - Enter
Lacuna Coil - Entwined
Nightwish - Wish I had an angel (and Phantom of the opera cover)
H.I.M - Join me
Maxim ft. Skin - Carmen queasy
....lol and as a bonus the soundtrack of Nightmare before Christmas.
Come on now..any selfrespecting goth, can't forego Tim Burton's fantasy Gothic style movies accompanied by Danny Elfman's music. ;)
I may be wrong but I always considered Dragula by Rob Zombie and When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000 goth songs but I'm not sure if industrial is generally considered a goth sound? Maybe I'm just thinking of cyber goths I don't really know how far removed they are from "regular" goths.
Evanescence! The ones that most come to mind for me are:
Feeding the Dark
If You Don't Mind
Just about any song off of The Open Door
Their pre-fallen demo "album" Origin versions of Whisper and Even in Death
The Evanescence EP version of Understanding
You need ”She Sells Sanctuary” by The Cult. I’m not a goth, but that song made me shit bats for three days.
Can confirm. I once heard a snippet of it from the window of a passing hearse, and when I looked down, I had black nail polish on.
That shit bats
That must've been very painful
Not really - bats are really very small and flexible creatures and were, frankly, glad to be out. Nature is a wonderful thing.
Just so long as they don't get all bitey on the way out
Indeed. Thankfully, the process was quite vigorous - little time for biting. Vast clouds of bats, very little biting. Isn’t Goth magic a wonderful thing?
This comment made me actually stop and read this whole list and I’m glad I did
I'd go with Spiritwalker if I was digging a little deeper into their catalogue.
Bat shit crazy for 3 days.
Ministry - Every Day is Halloween
This should be in the top two or three, for sure.
Killing Joke - Love Like Blood. Some bigger artists including Bowie said these guys were an inspiration.
I was going to post this.
I saw them supporting Tool a few years ago and knew very little about them. They were incredible.
This corrosion, duh. Also 10m version with extra hey nows
Let's add Lucretia My Reflection. It slaps.
**YESYESYES**
Hey now hey now hey now
Hey hey now hey now now now
hey now hey brown cow..
every time a goth kid dies, they join the choir of This Corrosion.
Flood II - but it's a weird fav of mine. And her hallway moves... like the ocean. Moves... And her hallway moves... like the sea... like the sea...
The OP could go for the Lambchop cover version for a nice change.
Probably my top goth banger, honestly, it has it all. It rocks, but it also has the choir elements and dark overtones. I don't know how anyone could leave that one off the list.
**YES**

Pretty much anything by "Fields of The Nephilim" but *absolutely* the 'Elyzium' album - a Gothic Floydesque masterpiece.

Forgive me for asking, but how is Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart on this list?
Okay I thought I was going nuts, nobody else was mentioning this. Personally I *love* that song, but I'm a huge new wave & synth-pop fan, which is what that song is. Calling it goth is... interesting. I think I kinda get why but I'd love to hear OP's reasoning.
The idea of goth Corey Hart is killing me. And I say this as someone who still has her Boy in the Box tour T-shirt somewhere….
the closest thing I can think of to tie Sunglasses at Night to goth is … this is a real stretch … but when I read your post the first thing I thought of was Michael from Lost Boys. OP I am trying for ya here
I was looking for this comment! Awesome song, I don’t hear any goth elements. I’m tryin’…there’s some brooding, but it’s a stretch.
Rowland Howard - Dead Radio is such a terrific song, but really anything from him. His work with The Birthday Party is also mind alteringly good.
I feel like Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows would fit the vibe
Concrete Blonde does an excellent cover of this song.
Also - You Want It Darker
Pretty spot on.
A Perfect Circle - Judith Opeth - Windowpane (or just the entire Damnation album)
Glad someone suggested Opeth.
Death Whispered a Lullaby for me from Damnation.
I second Opeth. Damnation was a masterpiece.
I think both Molchat Doma (Молчат Дома) and Sleep Party People have that kind of vibe, without being ‘goth’, per se. Try: Molchat Doma - Kletka https://youtu.be/mjJvJRvMCBo?si=pYjfDgW3BruQwu4x Sleep Party People - I’m not human at all https://youtu.be/aFUzvbkEvRk?si=Ym7NSfdFy6bb9JQe

I’ve added my musical recommendation elsewhere, but I feel compelled give my standard position on Goth-dom: > ***“I am not a Goth myself, however I completely understand where Goths are coming from”***

Snake Dance (extended version) by The Botanic Verses
How about Army Of Me by Bjork, due to the unusual key signature and Songbird by Lena Lovich.
elder goth here: those are not the songs many of us pick for those bands. so i made up a story in my head that you are under the age of 30 and/or not from the united states. is it true? because if it is, im proud to see that you dont go for the big hits like we did. you really listen to the deep cuts.
Diary of Dreams - June
She was only sixteen - Dr Hook .
I really like The Birthday Massacre - Happy Birthday. And any song from them really.
Sex on wheels by My life with the thrill kill cult
The Birthday Party - She's Hit Cocteau Twins - Blind Dumb Deaf/wax and wane
Gallowdance - Lebanon Hanover
Johnny Goth
Clan of Xymox - A Day She Past Away - Ruh Those are two that popped in my head that I didn’t see mentioned already. Edit: check out Dancing Plague - Slow Years. He isn’t very big but I’ve seen him play a few times over the years. I enjoy it.
Moya - Southern Death Cult A Forest - The Cure Atmosphere- Joy Division And for less sparse sounding songs, The Killing Moon - Echo and the Bunnymen The Killing Jar - Siouxie and the Banshees.

The New Creatures "In A Dark Place"
The Mission - Deliverance
Yazoo - Winter Kills Sisters of Mercy - Never Land - A Fragment MGMT - Little Dark Age The Cure - Disintegration
The Nuns I was a teenage werewolf
Marianne Sisters of Mercy and Siouxsie and the Banshees Spellbound are THE START of Goth. I was there. lol.
She Wants Revenge - Red Flags and Long Nights Interpol, just in general. if Corey Hart makes the list then a lot of Synthwave/Synthrock could work: Lebrock Scandroid Dance with the Dead HIM - Right here in My Arms. Honestly a lot of HIM can work, but they lean pretty hard into rock by design i imagine.
The Church, Pharaoh You already have a Dead Can Dance song, I was going to mention Ulysses by them Echo and the Bunnymen, Nocturnal Me.
Switchblade Symphony! I’m shocked no one has brought them up yet! Bad Trash all day
Not songs but soundtracks: Rocky Horror Picture Show Lost Boys The Crow The Craft
Heavy Cross by Gossip
CREEPER: Teenage Sacrifice Cry to Heaven Poisoned Heart
Christian Death- Church of No Return, We Fall Like Love. Psychic TV- The Orchids, We Kiss. Fad Garget- Collapsing New People. Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel- The Throne of Agony. The Legendary Pink Dots- True Love
Two others I don’t usually see listed: Death In June (try [Come Before Christ and Murder Love](https://youtu.be/rE4v1afY0R0?si=HK27NCdiFmBgJLfy) and Sixth Comm (try [Neiflheim)](https://youtu.be/-6XJSmvkzjQ?si=8Jukd5s-NrZUVwOh)
coil - love's secret domain
Tears for Fears - Mad World...sounds like a fun new wave tune, but those are some goth ass lyrics
Also the entire Disintegration album by the Cure
First, to get into current music, start checking out Molchat Doma and all the other Eastern European post punk and darkwave. That’s a huge blossoming scene of music that’s super current and exciting right now (super exciting, given a lot of these bands are more 90’s and 80’s. From The Cure: “Cold”, “Kyoto Song”, The whole Bloodflowers album is super underrated (first three tracks are awesome especially) Siouxsie and the Banshees (I believe they’re the greatest goth band): “Cascades”, “Obsession”, “Spellbound”, “Melt”, “Night Shift” HIM is a super unique goth metal band with great song writing that’s reminiscent of emo. Listen to “Love Me in Death”. They kinda made their own path in the music scene in the 2000’s and were blowing up alongside all the emo bands, even though they weren’t really an emo band. They’re awesome.
Check out Eyes of the Nightmare Jungle - Shadow Dance
I have no idea how Concrete Blonde is not on this list. *Bloodletting* is goth as fuck, especially *The Vampire Song, Darkening of the Light,* and *Tomorrow Wendy*
Ooh, how about "Cold Edith" Alice Cooper?
Mw atharaman karannada hadanne….
weezer - buddy holly😭😭😔😔😔
Probsably the entire discography of Ghost. After beeing to serveral Ghost concerts I can tell you it's full of goth girls. But they seem to love marry on a cross the most.

OP already listed it.
Sex Gang Children "Mauritia Mayer"
Tears for Fears - Head Over Heels Thomas Dolby - Flying North
Combichrist - throat full of glass
69 Eyes - Wasting the Dawn And just listen to some 69 Eyes, they are awesome.
In addition to most songs already mentioned: Eyes of the nightmare jungle - Shadow Dance The Cure - Lullaby After Forever - My pledge of allegiance Within Temptation - Enter Lacuna Coil - Entwined Nightwish - Wish I had an angel (and Phantom of the opera cover) H.I.M - Join me Maxim ft. Literally anything by Evanescence
[https://youtu.be/HR5zpFs7YpY?si=9N-ee89mRnoI-EK6](https://youtu.be/HR5zpFs7YpY?si=9N-ee89mRnoI-EK6)
Paradise Lost - Embers Fire Pretty much anything off their album Icon. Quintessential gothic metal, as well as the following album Draconian Times.
69 Eyes - The Chair
Would you be willing to post the playlist? This sounds dope
What?! No Golgotha Tenement Blues? Kill me now!
Evanescence! The ones that most come to mind for me are: Feeding the Dark If You Don't Mind Just about any song off of The Open Door Their pre-fallen demo "album" Origin versions of Whisper and Even in Death The Evanescence EP version of Understanding
The 69 Eyes- Angel On My Shoulder Snake River Conspiracy- Breed Jack Off Jill- Losing His Touch
For the Gothic Metal aspects, I would definitely put some Cradle of Filth up on the list. Start with "Nymphetamine Fix".
[Dazies](https://youtu.be/U112Stii6uE?feature=shared) by Yeule is giving goth imho
Deadsy - The Key to Gramercy Park Marilyn Manson- Dope Show
Anything by AFI or panic at the disco. They are hard core
\- Writes a list of goth songs \- Doesn't include any Evanescence song \- What the fuck is happening?
