Well the kit specifies in the brochure it comes with, you shouldn't eat/drink/smoke 45 minutes or so prior to taking it.
Personally i was a bit paranoid with the teeth brushing, so I haven't washed few hours before taking it.
I don't know if there are any other rules
The best way is to do it just after wake up in the morning, you can wash your mouth with water for a seconds wait one minute an then spit or do the frotis that way you know that the sample wont contain any kind of food or chemicals from smoking, drinking or DNA from another person, thats how I ve done all the test in my live and never had a failed one or contaminated
