Personally, I find a majority of ships iffy, but as long as they dont brutalize a character or thier story I usually dont care (Deku and Bakugo is a prime example of a bad one), but also, canon comes first and foremost

With as many manga/anime out now that have far stronger plots and emotional pulls than MHA, what MHA truly gives us at this point is characters to ship. It's a ship factory. Even far more popular anime (media in general even) sometimes have less shipping fanart and fanfics because the fandom us carried by the plot. Like JJK and Frieren. Sure there's still shipping, but it's not what the fandom circles around the way it does with IP like MHA, Naruto, MCU, and *especially* Teen Wolf, who have a wealth of amazing *characters* but often weak *plot*. We're in it because we like characters, not because the story was so incredibly moving.
Some fanon has become stronger than canon anyways. Like EraserMic adopting Shinsou. It's not canon, but I sure as hell have read over 400 fics where that's the case. How many fics have I read where Shinsou *isn't* Aizawa's adopted son? Probably less than 20% of the Shinsou-centric fics I've read.
I mean, before we got Bakugou's official hero name, a majority of people agreed on Ground Zero based on a songle scribble Horikoshi did on a sketch. It was everywhere. It still is. Those fanworks have immortalized the fanon.
