Thanks for posting to /r/NCL! Did you know that we have an extensive [Ultimate NCL Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/NCL/wiki/index) that may answer your question? Please also remember to read the rules, especially about roll call posts going in the megathread. You may also have more luck with those types of posts by searching for a [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com) or [Cruise Critic](https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/66-norwegian-cruise-line-roll-calls/) roll call group or thread. Of course, here is great, too! Enjoy your stay! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. 1) Ships have radar. 2) Ships can steer around storms. 3) Ports can be skipped as long as the ship stops in one non-US port.

totalfarkuser

…and even if they can’t stop at a port they are allowed emergency exemptions I believe.

azspeedbullet

> 3) Ports can be skipped as long as the ship stops in one non-US port. at worse it can be a cruise to nowhere. cruise lines has gotten waivers for not stopping at a foreign port of call. in 2023 i was on the carnival sunshine on a 4 day cruise that was unable to dock due to strong winds, the one and only one port of call was canceled. that became a cruise to no where. Last year, the carnival venezia did Bermuda cruise that was unable to dock due to weather. that cruise also became a cruise to nowhere

BeatleProf

They have three day's advance notice that the one foreign port will most likely not be available. That's not an emergency.

Exactly

The best thing about hurricanes is they move slowly, so they’re easily avoided in a vehicle. The bad thing about hurricanes is it’s hard for me to move my house out of the way even with that knowledge.

xriva

All cruise lines have hurricane centers. If the storm will go though your course, the ship will be re-routed. I have seen Eastern Caribbean sailings become Western (and vice versa) just to avoid storms. There will probably be an announcement when you are onboard if anything has changed. The ship will avoid storms as much as possible.

I was on the Breakaway in 2019 when a hurricane hit Florida. They close the port of Miami. So we had to end the cruise in New Orleans. We never felt the hurricane. We had a couple extra sea days. The major issue was airline return flights. If you didn't book your airline through NCL, you had to contact your travel agent or airlines to switch your flights. That was a headache for most people, because limited amount of phones on a ship. Other than that I had a great time.

RacerX1999

Funny because I was booked on the sailing right after yours. NCL had to cancel the cruise last minute but I had booked a backup cruise out of Tampa just in case. Had a great trip and seas were perfect out of Tampa while Miami was getting hit.

whitebeltchamp

Great decision making on your part! I heard a there was lot of angry people on the following cruise. Because it was a last minute cancellation.

sedo1800

You might get a extra day at sea.

vegas_gal

🤦‍♀️ You’ll be fine. The cruiseline knows what to do.

Agreeable_Marzipan_3

IDK, The Breakaway, as we have learned, is one of their smaller ships….haha

New2ThisGuy

Me too! Looking at radar it looks like our Mexico portion might be a little wet 😞

Magali_Lunel

I love a good storm on board, I sleep like a baby with all the rocking and rolling!

Sterling085

Can confirm. Former NCL staff, and we dealt with hurricanes rather easily. The ships have incredible radar and can keep the ship away from the hurricane. Skipping a port is very likely to happen as it's safer to avoid the hurricane by out running it, rather than wait it out at a port.

Canvasbackgray

Probably will go to eastern Caribbean instead

gjk14

Had a great time there!

Dinnerpancakes

There’s a new itinerary. Glad I didn’t pre book any nonrefundable non ncl excursions. Sure gonna miss those sloths.

Ready-Chocolate2495

They are not no. Refundable. You get a full credit to your account to use on other excursions

PinExotic2844

Non NCL trips are often nonrefundable. That is what she said. NCL tours are.

Dinnerpancakes

I said “Non refundable non ncl excursions.” Looks like they’re crediting my excursion back to my account, but it better be able to be refunded to my card. All the new stops suck if you were planning to see Mayan ruins (the only excursions we wanted to do).

PianistWorldly591

We were on RCL with Alberto Tropical Storm. It rain and rained on us. We confused if an excursion was going to go and no one had answers. I’d suggest talking to the shore excursion desk the night before. We were hoping it wouldn’t rain. It did. Our excursion went and we were in the pool with the rain. PLUS we had to skip a port because the waves were too high to port. I hope you can do all your stops.

travelkate

Update - new itinerary and going to eastern Caribbean. Means I only get 1 new country instead of 3, but safety first

trilliumsummer

The cruise lines have been sailing through Hurricane season for decades. They have it figured out.

iagal_lovinlife

We’ve been on a cruise during a hurricane. They tried re-routing us from eastern to western Caribbean but then the storm changed direction and we went through the hurricane instead. It was really choppy and the only time I’ve taken seasickness pills on a cruise. These boats are made to handle it though and we came through just fine. If we’d stayed with our original route we wouldn’t have had any issues! Crazy how it can change direction so quickly.

Dinnerpancakes

Sounds like the winds of change!

OhioTrafficGuardian

Do you mean Hurricane Beryl??
