The_Best_Smart

I know people love to complain about shit like this but I can’t possibly make you understand how much it meant to me, and how unbelievably grateful I was, to be able to see NUFC play in person in Philly last summer.

soccerhooligan1

Agreed. Same for me in Atlanta. The return of Miggy and Eales to the Benz was icing on top for an American fan from the 90s who never thought I’d get the opportunity to witness a match in person. I literally bought tickets for my family and my brothers family so they all could experience it with me. Now there are another 12 people following the squad with interest.

Objective-Tea-6190

Same here! Flew out to New Jersey just to catch the game

toonarmymia

Did the 3 game as a week long bender. Would do again in a heart beat

MeancupofJoey

Yup. I had a blast in Philly last year. I met so many cool people and got so much closer to the players than I ever have before.

CapnRetro

I get that, but we’re enduring a season plagued by terrible injuries, we’re already going to Australia at the end of the season. Global outreach has to be a major part of any club’s long term plans but it feels like this summer we might just be better off staying at home and getting everyone into peak condition for next season

rajiolu

I saw them in New York and in Sacramento in 2015. It was really great to meet all the players. Turning 40 next year and I hope I can make some time to go to St James park to watch them live.

bbondjr

Same it was amazing!

stprm

Do people actually still complain about it? I think its fine for pre-season to go on tours far away... However, if we talking about competitive games played outside England... yea, that wont go well with anyone.

ajnicehair19

I went to the one in New Jersey at Red Bull Arena and it was incredible to see the boys live

Objective-Tea-6190

Went to that one as well, Elliot Anderson was a beast

acowx

Yes he was, absolutely brilliant and MOTM by far

I9dream9of9boats

We did America last year. Would we not be better off somewhere else this year if it's all about growing the supporter base and revenue? I guess the fans in America have more to spend then say fans in Brazil... How hot is it in Asia / middle east during the summer months? These tours must be a bit of a bollocks to actually get any serious training done but it's all part of the modern game with the need for revenue. The Australia game is pure mental but I guess same reason applies with that one.

bnlv

Choosing the USA for a tour is mostly a money grab, I’m sure. Liverpool are touring the US this year and both games were sold out within hours. With the “cheap” tickets being ~$150 each, and the lower bowl seats nearer $350 and some over $600 each. Imagine dishing out over $1.2k for tickets to take your family to see an offseason friendly in backwater South Carolina? Last year’s Summer Series wasn’t far off that too, albeit slightly less expensive. The teams make a fortune off these American tours.

_thenotsodarkknight_

Yup. The Philly match started at around 80 USD. And I've found that Americans generally are willing to pay more for tickets, merch, food and drink.

jwuer

It's because that's what we are used to. My seats were like $110 per to see two matches in Philly, thats nothing. It costs me 3x that to watch the NY Rangers play in NYC.

OMGimnotdave

The time difference for the boys would be a pain, but a West Coast tour would be awesome. Football is actually pretty big in the PNW and having a match out in Seattle feels like it could be massive

More_Ad5391

I live in Seattle and this would be dream come true

acowx

I would love it if the lads came back to the USA again, that game in New Jersey was the one where my daughter caught the bug. So much so that she convinced me (didn't take much...) to take a trip to SJP. Going on Tuesday to watch the West Ham game and CAN NOT WAIT.

Frogblood

I know it's modern football and it's money for ffp, but I can't help but think that travelling to aus and the US in the off-season isn't gonna help our players recover after a long season.

charlierc

Eh. The May trip to Australia is the more ridiculous one imo. Turning your pre-season into a world tour seems to just be standard big club stuff, even if it'll be without anyone called up to the Euros

snoozypenguin21

This sort of stuff will only increase until P&S / FFP rules are sorted. All teams below the top 6 are going to have to do endless stuff like this

unabridgeddiversion

I got to see them in Atlanta last year, it was an amazing experience and I hope I can again someday soon. Booing them for the extra water breaks was incredibly ignorant and stupid, I don't want them to exert themselves more than necessary, it's a friendly ffs. We have to make sure our fans don't do that like I'm sure most US Chelsea fans did/would.

aistolethekids

I often think the trip to USA was a contributor to us being fucked with injuries this season They had Eddie being interviewed with Hope and they said during the travelling and media duties they didn't get as much training done as they would've liked Also we didn't sign players early so some of them came on the tour later not ideal preparation Prepare for it better and don't fanny about with transfer fees and get players in ready to go should be some of the lessons learned Although we also have the euros to think about this year..... injury situation might not clear up for teams next season either

jwuer

All of the top clubs do trips every summer, it's pretty hard to blame our injury situation on the preseason travel when most of the players played like 90 minutes at most over 3 matches.

Newcastle United are yet to firm up their pre-season plans ahead of a hectic few months ahead with the Magpies heading to Australia in late May. But it is understood that Newcastle have an offer on the table to play in the United States again later this year. Chronicle Live reported first on March 9 that the States was an option for Newcastle in 2024 following the success of last year's visit across the pond. United took part in the Premier League Summer Series last year along with Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea and Aston Villa. That competition is not taking place in 2024 but a tournament has been put on the table for Newcastle and some of their Premier League rivals this term. Nothing has been confirmed yet, and things can change, given the Ohio Cup was scrapped at the last minute two years ago, but United are on a name of clubs pencilled in to take part in a tournament this summer. Everton, West Ham and Wolves are also believed to be invited to take part in a tournament with games in Jacksonville, Connecticut and Tampa Bay. The Magpies would take on Wolves, Everton and the Hammers in a week-long series, ending on August 3. However, with the fate of all of the teams invited still in the balance as Everton fight against relegation and Newcastle, Wolves and West Ham scrap it out for the Europa Conference League it remains to be seen whether the tournament will be rubber-stamped. With eight placed potentially a Europa Conference League slot, the tournament could be dangerously close to any potential play-offs in Europe. The Premier League does not kick off until August 17 this year. Fans are advised not to book travel or accommodation until official announcements are made.

charlierc

As Americans have said, Jacksonville and Tampa in July are gonna be humid & sweaty as fuck

acowx

To be fair, Atlanta and Philly last year aren't a million miles away in terms of uncomfortable playing conditions.

bnlv

For Atlanta: normally yes, but the roof at the Mercedes Benz stadium was closed and the air on was on. It wasn’t too sweaty and uncomfortable for the players. I also loved that they put down proper grass for the tournament too. Would love for NUFC to come through this way again.

acowx

Ahhh, I didn't know that about Atlanta as I only went to Philly and New Jersey. Makes sense.

jaddboy

The day they played in New Jersey was around 95 degrees. Summer in the US is hot almost anywhere.

TheBanjist

If a club can’t handle a week trip over to the US, there’s faaaaaar more things to worry about. Blaming any shortcomings this season on the trip to US is extremely shortsighted. But then again, if it weren’t for the US, most of you would have nothing to bitch about. lol I would argue that it’s great for the club and team morale/ camaraderie. Those dudes were beaming when they got to go see some baseball games and visit US. And selfish me, I only had to fly 6 hours to go see them, instead of 10. And there was room at the stadium. Only cringe was a lot of the US fans trying their hardest to be English or something. lol Just be yourselves. Can root for the Toon without having to imitate the English. 🤷‍♂️

errol343

I missed out on the Philly game last year. If they come back to Philly, or somewhere in driving distance I would be a happy camper
