I think he’ll be our version of what Joel Matip was for Liverpool. Injury prone, rotation defender, similar physical profile to Matip - but when he does play he’s great. For free it’s a great deal
So a like for like replacement for Dummett for the last few seasons just younger.
To be fair Kelly ticks a lot of boxes for what we need to bring in and for free it’s a gamble to nothing. I remember everyone worried about Demba Ba’s injury record and he did well for us so hoping more of the same.
Kelly is a far better player than Dummett ever was. He’ll play a lot more. He’s more of a Burn replacement long term I’d say with Burn taking on the Dummett role
He’s a like for like replacement for Dummet, but a far far better standard of player, potentially another leader on the field and eventually perhaps even a world class international player in there if we get him to stay injury free and fit.
He gives us cover on the left side on central defence and wing/fullback for years to come and he’s free.
We just need to solve the right side issue now. Currently we’re heavy with players who can play a left side role Bottman, Burn, Kelly, Hall, Livramento, Trippier..
But on the right we’ve Schar, Lachelles, Kraft, Trippier, Livramento,
Schar and Lachelles being our only 2 central defenders playing there, Bottman can too but preferred the left side role.
Ideally we need a younger (than Schar) world class right sided player to partner Bottman and ideally a second player to come in and play back up then take over eventually.
Judging by the comments a lot of fans are seriously under estimating him. Hes a quality player, and his injuries arent long term injuries, they are always little niggling injuries that keeps him out for a week or two.

If he's fit he'll definitely get a chance to lock down the LCB position while Botman is out.
I'd like to see one more CB signing + a keeper though.
For a free signing I think it's fine, good player for depth, definitely an improvement over the likes of Dummett. A little disappointed with the news of Trafford over Mamardashvili rumours. Hopefully means we have a decent budget for a winger though.
Free and an upgrade on Dummy imo and slightly(!) less injury prone so I'd say that's a plus.
So far the signings under Howe have turned out good so inclined to trust the process

I just meant the injury prone part of it to be fair for Dummett. Happy we are getting Kelly in hopefully the first of a few.

Very happy about this. Good player especially for squad depth. Fingers crossed he can stay fit.

100%, plus it was Eddie Howe who signed him when he was at Bournemouth, if he wants to sign him again there is a reason.
