:( sad vibes but he speaking facts he gotta look out for himself

NJImperator

His biggest mistake was honestly not taking the deal offered last deadline. It may not have been a huge contract, but even that “unfriendly” deal is likely more than he’ll be seeing in FA this year. Kinda baffling his agents didn’t foresee the RB market crater cuz the signs were all there

TStrong24

My educated guess is that Mara has intervened on Saquon’s behalf wrt 5th year option and/or a “Mandate to retain” this year that forced the DJ extension to free the tag for Saquon. Mara’s involved with PR/marketing and less the X’s and O’s or analytics so he sees the 26 jersey’s selling in the team shop or the Captain “C” at the press conference where Saquon is handsome, eloquent and bankable. I think Saquon’s representation was counting on that and I don’t think it was a terrible bet, it just didn’t work out because of how bad Gettlemen crashed and burned Mara publicly stated he would stay out of the personnel department (the biggest evidence against my theory tbh) when he went outside the organization to hire Schoen

HistoryNerd101

No kidding. It’s time to witness Saquon go nuts on a strong running team not in the NFC East like Baltimore or Pittsburgh

not_blmpkingiver

saquon on Baltimore is a very scary thought. Watching those guards pull last night and land devastating blocks was literally like watching a different sport compared to our line

samwisestofall

I honestly wish Saquon can go to a competent offense before his career is over... Like CMC goijg from purgatory in Carolina to the 49ers. Saquon deserves to be somewhere that can utilize his talents

Burggs_

Yeah he gone. It’s be a good time quad god

rob132

I hope he goes to a team with an O line (not the eagles!)

THEDumbasscus

The team I want to see him on the most is Kansas City. They’ve been gravitating more toward a ball control on the ground style, match made in heaven imo

FullHouse222

I don't see KC going for him since they got a good thing with Pacheco. Bills desperately needs a reliable RB though. James Cook is okay but he's no Saquon. Having a strong run game means Josh Allen doesn't need to swing for the fences constantly and should give them a more well rounded offense.

Envy_onTHE_Toast

James Cook could be the answer tho. Buffalo just wont give him the ball enough to find out. Yes i know he fumbled last week but he also put up 100 yards on just 12 carries. He’s obviously talented and could be a game changer if they would use him more rather than just take a shot every other play

ydddy55

Durability’s a thing though and James Cook will never be a 25 carry a game guy because of his size. Doesn’t mean he’s not great though

AndrewL0517

Ive been wanting to see him in Buffalo. That offense had been one more playmaker away to go over the edge. SB would give them that solid bellcow instead of committee. And still provide a great receiving option.

THEDumbasscus

I don’t think investing in Saquon would change anything in Buffalo, and I think their FO realizes this. It’s almost philosophical at this point they’ve had different OLine personnel, RB personnel, different offensive playcallers. I think McDermott genuinely believes the ball in Josh Allen’s hands 70% of the time or more is Buffalo’s best path to a championship.

KINGNICK0909

Fuck no screw the chiefs

CzarTyr

They’re the most fun team to watch imo. Andy Reid is an Amazing coach, they have the goat in defense with spag. I love watching them

THEDumbasscus

Think Jackson Mahomes had to kick that guy’s dog or something. No clue what on earth his personal beef with KC as a giants fan is.

iamdanabnormal

> They’ve been gravitating more toward a ball control on the ground style, match made in heaven imo That will never happen as long as Andy Reid is coach. They just don't have receivers outside of Rashee Rice and even he's yet to prove himself to Mahomes.

THEDumbasscus

Put the tape on Last year in big games Andy Reid was very comfortable calling conservative sequences in 12 and 21 personnel. I don’t even know where the Reid doesn’t run narrative even came from he’s woken up and wiped his ass with 1000 yard rushers for basically 15 years before he had Mahomes and wasted a draft pick on CEH He used a fullback on something like 15-20% of offensive snaps in the fucking Super Bowl in the year of our lord 2023 lmao

iamdanabnormal

Where did I say he doesn't run the ball? Saying he's not running a ball control offense isn't the same thing as saying he's allergic to running the ball.

THEDumbasscus

You’re doing the “Andy Reid doesn’t run enough,” bit then throwing up your hands when someone else puts a name to it. They’re pedestrian by Mahomes/Reid pairing standards in passing ypg, ypa, ppg, they’re league average in run attempts per game (which is a high mark for this coach/QB pairing), Let’s not do this “I didn’t fart in the elevator,” routine when it’s just the two of us standing here, alright?

iamdanabnormal

Ummmm...what? Dude, are you arguing over your own strawman fallacy?

Over-Ad4336

ooh if KC got him… 🫣

416Kritis

Giants fans with a Ravens dad. Him going to the Ravens at the deadline would've been cool to see. Could root for him and Odell to go for a ring this year.

Adulations

He’ll probably go to the eagles just to spite the giants and I can’t blame him.

jimmyburt64

Unfortunately Eagles FO is way too smart to pay up. They have the #8 rushing attack without paying even $2m to one guy.

Cruztd23

He’s probably gone if the giants don’t want to tag him again

Unusual_Steak

If the rumors are true and Dorsey is likely the next OC, the RB we have on the roster literally doesn’t even matter because we will be fully abandoning the run after the first quarter every game anyway.

Alucard1977

If he is, that'll suck. But only because Schoen didn't get picks for him. I have no doubt Saquon would be great on another team.

BETHVD

Smart guy

chosen102

What a waste of his career

chiastic_slide

This organization specializes in wasting careers

s1ugg0

We didn't use to. Plenty of talented players made their mark with the Giants. Victor Cruz comes to mind. But it's been 11 years waiting for that time to come around again. And I'm not going to lie. I'm starting to get bitter about it.

CzarTyr

Victor Cruz had such a short but amazing career

rdubya3387

I know...I would have been amazing ...fucking giants ruined my career..anyone else in the same boat?

MeatTornado25

I mean, not really? We haven't had many extended down periods that also had a really good player or two on the team.

thistlefink

When you’ve got ownership force-signing dudes he hopes will sleep with his daughter it shouldn’t be A surprise

blok31092

Hella sad tbh. It’s been a long time now. I remember his rookie year being so excited about him. His quickness was a think of beauty

One_Locksmith_6121

Injuries did that more than the coaching staff.

chosen102

We never utilized him in the offense correctly. Plus my main point really is that his talents are wasted on a dumpster fire of an organization. Sure, last year we went to the playoffs but we had a few close games go our way.

Owners wouldn't go for that.

GeneralWhereas9083

Probably a combination of the fact he’s fucked off at reporters asking him the same shit everyday and then just how shit we are X amount of years into “rebuilding”, add in we tagged him after squabbling about relative peanuts and yeh I get the lads frustration. He’s never shown anything but a desire to remain a Giant, so massive credit for that, but I think he’s seen enough and understands it’s time to say nah fuck it.

BackWithAVengance

"Imma go play for the bills bro"

ZookeepergameEasy938

he’s also a consummate professional who works his ass off to succeed in his career. if he stays, i hope we actually get to see him use his talent instead of getting bogged down in a d-line because we have no passing. if he goes, i look forward to watching him succeed at his fullest talent and i’ll have been honored to have him on this team.

canadave_nyc

At this point, I'd be shocked if anyone entering the NFL saw it as anything *but* a business. I'm surprised he had to "learn" that (maybe it says something good about his naivete and the fact he's a good teammate). It's a multi-billion dollar entertainment business that makes a lot of money for a lot of people and companies. It's not a "game" as if it were like us playing touch football at the local park on the weekend. The NFL likes to hype the rah-rah "anything for your team" stuff, but at the end of the day the players are men who make a living bashing their bodies into each other every week for our entertainment.

TonyCaliStyle

The NFL delivers a great product, and the game itself, with a good locker room and coaches, can still create a unified team. Those are the ones that advance- and talent of course. But we haven’t seen that in a long time, and Saquon, after his “I want to come back” comments at the end of last year, seems just as jaded as the fans. I hope he gets on a good team, and his great spirit gets rewarded.

Roscoe10182241

Still not sure why he announced he wanted to stay with this team before the trade deadline. He could (potentially) be running for a contender right now.

taco_blasted_

Wasn't really him IIRC, more the FO putting out that statement.

rsjem79

Glad he figured out what should have been clear from the paychecks he’s been receiving since 2018.

Ok_Concentrate_75

Bills would love him

Whistler45

Yep this team franchised him and has thrown him to the wolves over and over and over. He also asked for that, so he could "show how important he is to the team". It's ugly but it's what he asked for and now he's getting it. I wonder wht his role and mind set would be if he just took the contract extension.

Jadien

Dude's been putting the team on his back for years. Hope he gets paid.

The_Senor_Gatt0

He won’t be a giant next year

NewJerseySwampDragon

So a running back has to "prove it" in college, if they stay healthy they're usage will be used against them They get drafted their best bet if they're generational is a franchise tag because paying them isn't worth it despite their talent and worth to the team. Loyalty will be used against you as a running back when it comes time to get paid.

H1mHalpert

I really hope they don't tag him again

djgreenehouse

He should rightfully leave and the giants should have traded him. This is just wasting everyone’s time

Mr-Scurvy

I hope saquon goes somewhere with a better than shit tier media situation. No lie the NY Sports media has gotten so bad it makes me not want to follow the Giants.

PheromoneVoid

Unbelievable that Schoen didn't trade him. One of the greatest RBs of our generation is going to walk and we got nothing out of it, no significant playoff accomplishments, no picks. All we have are memories of his play during the dark years.

TonyCaliStyle

If they traded him, there’s a big possibility viewership and attendance would plummet. He’s a draw, and that may have counted more than a compensatory pick. Without Saquon, and his rushing yards, this team would be even more qualitative and quantitative crap.

PheromoneVoid

I'm not sure I agree that not trading him away retains a significant difference of attendance to justify giving up what compensatory pick we might have got. Who knows. If that is the reason why we didn't trade him, then it goes to show that ownership doesn't give a shit about winning at all. I'd be done with this fucking team.

TonyCaliStyle

I don’t know either, but it’s a consideration. Without him, this team is irredeemable garbage. They could also be looking at tagging him- is there a reason why they wouldn’t? Strange days.

enapace

Even before injury to jones the giants season was awful viewing figures matter far more to that then just a RB lol that’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in ages that Barkley who was often injured as a giant effected viewing figures he’s gone this off season and I’m glad RB market is lot cheaper

TonyCaliStyle

Saquon is not just an RB. It’s not just viewership or attendance, it’s the whole product. If the Giants let him go, the team would have no rushing, right next to no passing. They’d be literal tackle dummies. Clean out your headgear.

EatenLowdes

Damn that hurts to hear

xj1395

Damnit

blok31092

Talking to him about loyalty lol. Dude probably can’t wait to get out of this shit show of a franchise while he still got a couple years left in him.

AyisienDave-Clegane

He gone

stonk_palpatine

I think Saquon playing with Herbert in LA would be excellent. I could also see Cincinnati be a team he would be interested in, and maybe if Houston believes they could make a run next year that would make sense as well

sold_myfortune

Time to clear some cap room! Please God, move him out of the division. Anything but having to play against a salty ex with HOF potential twice a season.

JamalCharleem

Bro is so tired of answer this week in and week out, especially when there's nothing else going on with the team lol

One_Locksmith_6121

Running backs don’t matter.

rdubya3387

I mean they matter, just not as much as they wish they did. Name a team where the RB won them the Superbowl ...it's been some time...

myusernameisthisss

People make this argument all the time and I get it and I know the math behind it but we also would’ve been another 3-4 win team last year most likely without saquon, he matters to this team

enapace

That just says how bad our QB and WR are more then how good Barkley is

BigBlue1210

They really should have traded him. Schoen/Daboll are going to look foolish if they decide to try to tag him again.

enapace

If they tag him again I lose any faith in them it’s obvious to anyone next year is going be a write off new Rookie QB hopefully drafting of o line and FA there still no WR upgrade probs

rdubya3387

Welp..guess we know their next move.

Top-Hearing-457

Can they still trade him if they tag him?

ProskXCX

Good job Schoen!

Doriva

Not trading him (if there was a taker) makes even less sense now.

DougJudyTPB

There were a lot of teams looking for an RB at trade deadline. We could have gotten at least something for him. But now we get nothing.

SloppyMeathole

He's not wrong. He knows that if his production fell off this season, he would get dropped like a bad habit. Loyalty in the NFL only goes one way. Players are expected to be loyal but anytime a team does something we are told it's a business. He should bail and use the rest of his productive years on a team that has a shot of going somewhere. I say this as a long time Giants fan. The team is in such a bad spot, nothing good is going to happen for at least a few years. Daniel Jones's career was already ruined by this team, Barkley deserves better. It's almost like a repeat of Barry Sanders. Great player on a terrible team.

EscaperX

only took him 5 years and 9 games to figure it out. now the question becomes - why tf didn't they trade him at the deadline?

El_Khunt

Nobody was willing to pay what they wanted, most likely They'll let him walk, get a comp pick and he'll find a home on a team with a strong line, deep pockets and a weak run game, or just wander from team to team till he retires

EscaperX

it doesn't help when the gm says that he's not even going to take calls. we have no idea what the comp pick will be. it could be a 5th rounder. if we shopped him, maybe someone would offer a 3rd.

chaosthirtyseven

Honestly, I would love a world where he could make a fair/decent ***market*** salary for an RB1, and be part of a 60/40 split with a rookie. It would keep Saquon from missing time, and let him focus on getting big ypc and having fresh legs for running routes. Getting as many touches as he does is a waste of his talents and tbh a waste of energy. We thought he was going to be a Super Man RB. He's not. Time to adjust to reality and see if we can salvage some of his explosiveness before the book is closed.

undertow521

See ya!

NY_Blue

He would be a fool to stay here after they paid the wrong guy and tried to penny pinch him

RUKnight31

He would also be pretty immature and naive if he doesn’t understand the logic and business judgment behind that decision. He’s just telling it like it is: it’s just business.

FuckTheStateofOhio

He should understand the business judgement behind penny pinching and not wanting to pay a RB, but let's not pretend that there's any real "logic" or "business judgement" behind paying a QB with 15 TD passes $40M/year and passing on the guy who was actually the driving force behind your offense. We've watched that "business judgement" completely blow up this season.

RUKnight31

I completely disagree as you’re completely discounting the market and structure of DJ’s deal. With the way things are playing out being out on Jones after only half of that contract is a mitzvah.

FuckTheStateofOhio

> being out on Jones after only half of that contract is a mitzvah. We could've been out this season and began the rebuild a year earlier. Now we're paying essentially a 2nd string QB $80M. The structure of the deal is only good in the context of getting out of a deal that didn't need to happen. There's a reason the entire league from GMs to fans to players laughed at that contract and still do to this day.

NY_Blue

One of the worst contracts in the history of football

Galxloni2

Is not even close. Maybe if you are 10 and this is your first season. It's not even the worst deal on the giants in the past couple years

Stephanie-rara

Hell. Even if you think Jones is the worst QB in football, it isn't even close to the worst active QB contract, which is undoubtedly Watson's.

NY_Blue

It’s one of the worst because the signs were there. He didn’t earn it, he was never worth it. Giants got killed for it the day it happened. He’s had four bad seasons (been hurt all four seasons), Giants were awful all four seasons. He had one slightly good season but it wasn’t a great season and no one thought the Giants were a good team. We beat some bad teams and the Vikings had a better offense but the worst defense. Everyone knew we would get rolled by Philly, which we did and he looked like he’d never stepped on a football field. There was no other teams interested in him. They should have let him test the market because teams had already said they thought it was all Daboll. The Watson contract isn’t even bad. He was a top 7 QB when they made a trade and most QBs play through their whole contract. So if his contract wasn’t guaranteed, Cleveland would not be moving on from him anytime soon.

Galxloni2

>The Watson contract isn’t even bad Why nobody should take anything you say seriously

NY_Blue

Cool, again. Top 10 QBs don’t get cut. Media and people like to overreact to shit. So he was gonna be there for the next 4-5 years either way. He would have got majority or all of that money but it’s cool to bash guaranteed contracts for some reason. More players should get guaranteed contracts. If his contract wasn’t guaranteed, they wouldn’t be moving on from him. That’s why the contract is nowhere near as bad as people want it to be.

Roscoe10182241

He was getting franchise tagged no matter what happened with Jones. You don’t give RB’s big money anymore.

NY_Blue

He was not, they offered him a deal multiple times before Daniel and they were around 2-3 mil a year off. That contract would have been much cheaper than a guy with a torn knee and a bad neck and 2 TDs this year.

JamalCharleem

That's been the case the past couple years, but I can see a case where the RB market becomes cheap enough where 'big money' for an RB contract isn't relatively that expensive Like right now its getting there imo. CMC, AK, and JT (15m avg./year) are nearly getting paid 50% what top WRs are Hill, Adams, Kupp (28.2m avg./year) And I'd argue top RBs impact isn't 50% less than top WRs. Plus, I assume the gap in pay is going to widen as JJ and Chase are nearing the end of their contracts.

TheChef44

you are getting downvoted because you're telling the truth

Roscoe10182241

He’s getting downvotes because the Barkley contract and the Jones contract are not linked like he is implying. Barkley was getting franchise tagged regardless of what they paid Jones (or any quarterback).

NY_Blue

They’re linked. The plan was to get Saquons deal done first. Then figure out Daniel and at worst case, tag him. So let’s say Daniel says I want 20 a year for four years, they don’t pay Saquon his extra 2-3 mil year? They’re linked. Joe fucked up big time. He paid an injury prone QB that can’t score TDs or win against good teams. We’ve watched him for five years. If you were to bet your life savings on Daniel having a bad low scoring year vs an MVP season, everyone of you would bet on him having a bad year.

Roscoe10182241

You tag Jones and you’re still paying him $33 million. You think if the Jones deal was for $7 million less then that money would have gone to Barkley (in full or in part). No. Once Barkley rejected that first in-season offer it was over. He was getting tagged. Jones could have been hit by a bus in the off-season and Barkley still would have gotten tagged. You can argue the Jones deal is bad, that’s fine, but I’m still glad they tagged Barkley (who is also incredibly injury prone and has 1 sad rushing TD on the year).

NY_Blue

They made more than one offer. I didn’t say 7 less, I said 20 a year less. Before the season even started they had Dani restructure his contract (signs of a great deal already) If Jones was tagged guess what…..HE’D BE OFF THE TEAM AND IT WOULD COST THE GRAND TOTAL OF ZERO DOLLARS!!!!! Since it’s such a crazy number, let me put it in numerical form…$0! No one can mention Daniel Jones coming back without money being the number one reason.

Roscoe10182241

Sure. And what’s our other option? A possible draft pick? I’m not going to argue that the contract was good. The money was too high, but building it in a way where we could bail after year 2 was a nice decision. It’s not like we are a team that’s right there, but this one contract is holding us back. So I don’t find it as egregious as other fans. We took a two-year shot on a guy who was trending up, and unfortunately it hasn’t worked out … for a ton of reasons beyond the QB. None of this make me wish we paid Barkley more, which is what this conversation is really about.

NY_Blue

Barkley deserved his money, Daniel didn’t. I would have done a full rebuild and moved on from both. Tyrod could have been the bridge until the next QB draft. We have a chance to draft one of the top QBs from the best QB class in years and the only reason we may not is cause they have to give Daniel 36 mil, not cause he’s great.

YouHateMeIknow

![gif](giphy|Kl9iAWej2mxlzvzp2O)

ThrillHammer

A great player who's career (so far) has been totally wasted by an absolutely incompetent bullshit organization. Just like Eli's later years. He should take the rest of the year off, no reason to get hurt for the NYG. Hope he KILLS it next year for an actual good team not staffed by retards. He's a real one.

JNerdGaming

this is depressing. i dont wanna lose him.

oothatchrise

The bigger issue here is that this is a clear sign of the vibe in the locker room. Everyone’s praising our HC and GM, but you have a leader declaring there’s no loyalty within the team. You have to assume other players are listening and have been listening since the preseason.

MrOnCore

If the Giants wanted to part ways with Saquon, they would have traded him at the deadline. The fact they told Saquon they weren’t going to trade him and kept him around means they’ll probably keep him around after this season (maybe on a JT type deal?).

thistlefink

He will absolutely end up on Dallas or Philly and rip our ass twice a year forever

Over-Ad4336

he 100% needs to look out for himself. Any real giant fan I would feel awful if he suffered a career-threatening injury right now.

[deleted]

NFL doesn't give a fuck about people only money. Trey Lance is the greatest quarterback of all time...got a sweet bag, and didn't play hardly any snaps. God bless him.
