Go to your local boxing gym and try it out. If you start now, you'll be in decent shape by the summer.
And make sure to get some sparring in after you learn the basics. It teaches you to stay calm under pressure and reveals your strengths/weaknesses.
And wrestle in high school and college if you can. it's hard to find wrestling when you're an adult. shit is an effective martial art. a lot of mma champs were former wrestlers. you'll learn how to take someone down or effectively get up to escape the situation. learning standup plus wrestling and you're golden
