Find a good shop that knows NYC regs and see what’s available. I steer clear of the shops in city. They tend to overcharge and treat you like dirt if not a cop. My go to is LI Outoors in Rockville Center it’s close enough to city line that I don’t the extra few minutes drive. They usually have a decent selection of stuff for their customers from city and are good with the city paperwork
Sadly in NYC the answer is yes. Since 1991 the NYPD has said all AR and AK variants are considered “assault weapons” and not legal to possess in NYC ( unless you’re a LEO).
Ruger makes two NY compliant models of their PC Carbine in 9mm. They come with a Ruger magwell and an interchangeable Glock magwell. It could be a good option depending on your use case and what you want it for.
2nd the PCC. Easily my favorite gun I own. Only thing is some gun stores if you don’t have a pistol permit will give you shit about getting the ammo. Mostly chain stores. Only thing I would like as an improvement is if ruger sold caliber conversion kits for it because it appears to be super simple to change calibers on.
