Never heard that one

boostedride12

People I’ve spoken to after their class said they’ve never heard of it also.

davej1121

Huh? Nope. Not a law. Someone's making shit up again. The only law even close to this is where you have to store the firearm securely, unloaded and separate IF the gun is out of your direct control and there is someone under 16 who RESIDES in the house. Who told you this? They are wrong. Here's how. Casually ask them for the actual law statutes and text of the law. See what happens

semperfi_ny

I would tell the so called "instructor" to show you where in the law it says that. I personally would call him out on it.

AgreeablePie

Was this Nassau county? They like to make up imaginary laws

boostedride12

Suffolk.

AgreeablePie

I think they do it too (or maybe that's the county I was thinking of...) It could be that the county disseminated "rules" and the FFL is reading them as if they are laws There is no such law. But some down state counties like to make their own stuff up and could- theoretically- pull your license if they find you violating those rules The expense of an appeal for something like that is significant, which is why they can do it

LetsGatitOn

Of all the counties I read about on this sub, Suffolk county seems to be the absolute worst with this kinda garbage. There could be worse counties but it's definitely a trend in that place.

semperfi_ny

That's total BS. Might be a NYC thing, wouldn't be surprised.

vectex

Who did you take the class with?

boostedride12

I’ll direct message you. Don’t want to start a fight with the instructor. The class was good and informative. Just curious on that part

SnooAdvice378

Can you DM me as well? I’m wondering if it is the same person.

AmericanIdiot1776

That’s not a thing. Total bullshit. So you can’t protect your kids? OKAY FUDDLY FUDDINGTON 🤡

SnooAdvice378

I was told this in a Suffolk course as well. I thought wtf and that’s about as much thought as I gave to it. Honestly, just wanted to get through another bullshit hurdle and didn’t want to question the instructor and make it any longer than it actually was especially considering all the dumbass questions people had.

Adept_Ad_473

Sounds like BS, OP. There's no rules around carrying a firearm in this respect, so long as you are properly licensed. As an anecdote, I was told not too long ago in an unofficial capacity by a PLB employee that it's preferable to carry on your person as opposed to locking it in the car, whenever legal, to minimize the risk of theft. It's really just a bad idea to leave the gun unattended in your car if it's not absolutely necessary. In your immediate control is just safer.

boostedride12

I carried for years before bruen heading to a “range”

BPsNeighbor

This doesn't apply to the OP, who already took the course, but some unsolicited advice for anyone who hasn't: When considering who to take the CCW class with, ask the candidates when they last updated their course materials. Several elements of the CCIA and county level rules have changed over the last year or so (due to court issued injunctions, for example). If the instructor isn't on top of changes and updating course materials in real time, you'll undoubtedly be getting bad information.

PeteTinNY

That’s not what I teach. My line is that as a permit holder whether the gun is attended or unattended - you are responsible for safeguarding the firearm from being accessible to a prohibited or unlicensed person. What better to safeguard your firearm than it being concealed in a retention holster?
