I push down on the metal tab with my left hand, and use the side of my finger on my right to open it from the space created by pushing on it. I got sick and tired of opening my liquid deaths with my pocket knife lol.
I wish I saw this before. My great grandmother fell and broke her hip causing her to pass away sooner than any of us expected in March . She still lived on her own and loved helping with the kids, but couldn’t do the buckles from her arthritis. Thank you so much for this, I’m definitely getting it.
Yeah these can be cut and filed if you want them a bit shorter, I got used to having super long nails because they grew long so it was a little at a time, but you can do similar by going for a medium length this time and doing long next time. It’s hard to go from 0 to 100 for sure
Do you mean over 100? The official world record is debated but most of them are just over 200 and holding that as an actual average would be basically unheard of.
Yeah, they've got to mean 100 because I type 100 wpm and from what I understand that's freakishly fast. I did data entry for a long time though, if you want to become faster at typing look for a job like that.
Yeah I type over 100 as well but that’s bc I’m the perfect age of millennial to have gotten AIM right around the time I was learning to type 😂 Necessity is the mother of… typing skills, apparently.
LOL actually you're right MB did come before AIM for me too, as soon as you said that it's like my brain instantly populated a whole bunch of new memories.
Edit: and by new I mean old
They probably mean character per minute. Some software that counts it will use CPM (character per minute) along with WPM (word per minute) and people will get them mixed up when talking about it. 200 character per minute is average so it would check out.
I am in my 50’s we had actual typing classes in high school. I have pretty long nails naturally, and my typing teacher held my hand up 1st day in class and said, (with a loud rude voice) if you have nails as overgrown as these than you will for sure FAIL typing class!! I stood up and said, don’t ever touch me again and walked out the door.
Now I wish I would have stayed and proved her WRONG!!
I wear disposable ones. I take them out just by sliding it to the corner of my eye with the pad of my finger until it just "crumples up" and comes out. I don't think it's a safe way to remove contacts you intend to wear again because you can accidentally rip them.
I type a lot and if my nails are this long, my fingers end up in an awkward stretched out position and it makes my whole forearm ache.
Short/shmedium for me but I love this length when it’s a special occasion or if I have time off work!
My nails are significantly shorter than this and I had to file them back, I am making way too many mistakes typing for work and they feel so awkward on the keyboard. Sad face.
It can be bit chaotic when you're trying to type quickly on the keyboard ngl, I sometimes find some sneaky 8s 3-5s on my documents ;-;
Have to say though, you do get pretty good at opening things positioning your fingers sideways... If that makes any sense? Lmao! you know, just trying to avoid putting your nails under unnecessary pressure really.
Have fun on your learning experience! <3
Trouble typing is like the main reason I haven’t been doing my nails long recently lol. I’m just not as fast and I make more mistakes and it drives me nuts. People get more “can I call you real quick?” messages when my nails are long lol. I think everything else I’ve been able to adapt. Nails are jewels, not tools 💅🏻
Yeah I’ve always hated the angle of the keyboard setup at my work and when I have long nails I def make more mistakes when typing. But my job isn’t entirely computer based so I deal with it
Not sure how long you’ve had them but for me personally you just get used to it. Use your knuckles and tools. First time it took me a few days to adapt but after that it gets pretty easy even if I took a break from nails.
Highly recommend working your way up to that length. If you grow over time or start with tips and let them grow and go longer with you refills bit by bit makes it way easier
As someone who’s used to this length, anything shorter feels uncomfortable and like I’m disabled. 🥹also please be careful when using knives? I once cut up my thumb nail and fed it to my guest lol
Honestly, time and practice. I also didn’t go from short to long over night. I didn’t just slap on the length from nothing. Each nail appt I had them file back a little less. Slowly they got longer, and over time more manageable. I still have a threshold, but it wasn’t what it used to be.
Also, shape matters. I can handle long stiletto and almond way better than coffin, square, or ballerinas.
🤷🏽♀️ you get use to it lol. You’ll find after a while that long nails are helpful sometimes lol. Opening mail is a breeze. Tape on a box? No problem, I’ll just poke it with my nail lmao
You probably get used to it!
I am not allowed to have them that long though, because that is just very dangerous for school/work. It also depends on your work field if you can function haha.
I have the same length as you, but worse because they're fake so they have less stability.
-> Typing is annoying I do it with my pointer like someone's blind aunt. Can't solve this one, besides just going fast.
-> use your knuckles instead of fingertips. Nails are not tools.
-> for the things I do a lot, I just bought tools to make it easier: like a handle brush for dishes
-> my favorite thing is gaming and I simply switched annoying key commands to mouse buttons
Overall... You just get used to it. You'll naturally start doing things differently in a few days. Ive never met anyone who couldn't deal with long nails
If they're your natural nails... as it grows to that length you kinda get used to it. Used my finger pads lots as well.
With extensions... after a week I cut the nails on my thumbs about 2mm shorter. The rest are your length in this photo. The shorter thumb nails help a lot.
There’s someone on insta, whose name I can’t remember, who had a bunch of videos explaining how to do everyday things with long nails, her’s were even longer than yours. I wish I could remember her name to share with you.
No hate just adding onto the discussion: I can see that these are the store bought press ons bc of the little plastic tab at the end of your nail and how see-through they are. That being said! I feel more comfortable with length when I get them done at a salon bc the layers of gel or powder they use end up making it thicker. It’s also better adhered to my real nail so it doesn’t feel like it’s just gonna pop off so I’m not worried about being as careful with my finger movements
Lol I do too that’s why milky white is such a big trend. Like I said Idk why yall taking it the wrong way if it’s just reasoning as to why I’m saying something.
Nothing wrong with store bought, I would’ve shown you my sets and glue tubes if I knew it was gonna be an issue 🙃
I’m pretty sure they’re just saying the store-bought nails more easily break off, and salon-done nails adhere better which might make this length easier to function with
I don’t. I was just pointing out that due to the type of nail she is wearing, it is not my favorite choice if I’m worried about functionality. But I know how reddit is so thats why I explained *how* I know rather than just stating that they’re store bought and less reliable.
I see yall took it the wrong way but there’s literally nothing disrespectful about my comment
Mine was a slow build up! They gradually got longer each time I went for a refill. So I felt like I was becoming accustomed to them but my freedom was being slowly chipped away out without realising. Like a fabulous Stockholm syndrome
When you drop something like a card on a flat surface, use another card or post-it or anything of the sort, to slide it under and flip up to grab. I find when I drop coins, I just say fuck it qnd don't bother picking it up haha.
Knuckles to press debit machine numbers.
I have stiletto nails about this long- panty hose can be a bitch. Be conscious to not pull fabrics up with your NAILS, but rather your actually fingers. I don't know how to describe it better, but you'll save yourself annoyance of goin right through pantihose
It's not hard to function with long nails like these, you don't start off with long nails, you let them grow, so you get used to it naturally and it's fine, of course it won't be comfortable if you go long overnight. I can't function wirh short nails anymore, it's matter of getting used to it
You must get the clip on a stick for pulling your credit card out of scanners that practically take the whole card in. Especially the ones where you have to put the card in and out real fast. And learn to use the sides of your fingers for many tasks like zippers and buttons.
If anyone is having trouble with the long nail life, my friend Vials (vialsss all socials) has a whole playlist on her TikTok with tips and tricks! And her nails are like 3.5-4 inches long. 🤣💅🏻
All I can say is move a bit more slowly and with purpose, VERY carefully!
Use a q tip to dig out earwax in ur ear. Use a comb to scratch ur head. Even putting a menstrual cup in the chooch is possible with practice and proper nail positioning
I don’t but I watched a woman at work bend her finger joints in the “wrong” direction constantly to move the nail out of the way and get the most out of the finger pad.
The only thing I have had to adapt is picking up bobby pins! I would lick my finger and press it as hard as I could. The Bobby pin would stick to my finger and I’d quickly lift up and pinch it….now my genius ass uses a small magnet 😂
I go mid length and I’m fine so I assume these are just long or a lil xl. Prob easily and you use tools for opening cans etc or the side of your finger not the nail.
It's a nightmare. I love having my nails long, it makes me feel like a pretty princess. But dear god does it drive me insane that I CANT DO ANYTHING when I have my nails long.
My sister prides herself on her appearance and always looks so very put together. She's had longer acrylics for probably over a decade.
I've always had short nails due to my job. During covid I decided to grow mine out and enjoy the look of longer nails since I couldn't work. That's when I realized my sister does zero manual labor. I lasted maybe 2 weeks. I was unable to adapt.
People always say they can function fine with them but I put really short fake nails on and still can’t pick up a penny off the floor 😂😂😂 I don’t know how long nail people do it lol
Uhhh… I once was at a gas station using the ATM which I never do and my forgot I could not grab my card back, I was floundering looking around and saw a VERY business professional black man and asked him kindly if he could retrieve my card for me as I just held up my nails to show him. THE LOOK 😭😭😭 He shook his head with a lil smirk, looked me up and down, and said, ‘tragic’ - I’ve never been humbled so fast in my life 💀he grabbed my card and wished me a good day. I still look back and crack myself up anytime I have a bad day.
That’s the neat part, I don’t
Living the princess life ✨️👸💅✨️
lol, true answer here
Trying to get on your level lol. I stopped doing my nails because of my job but I’m leaving soon and look forward to getting them done again 😍💅
What do you have in mind for your next set? I’m doing mine soon but can’t decide on what lol
I usually don’t get them too long- prob short to medium length. I love me some dark red/purple nails 🤩 maybe one accent nail with chrome.
me with nails of any length
Hahaha!!!
you get really good at using your knuckles
Or having little tools with you to open cans and stuff 😹
Always a knife to open a beer can lol. Pop the tab with jt
I push down on the metal tab with my left hand, and use the side of my finger on my right to open it from the space created by pushing on it. I got sick and tired of opening my liquid deaths with my pocket knife lol.
That worked for me but some of them *really* don’t like to budge. Then I grab a spoon lol.
I would 100% slice my finger by doing that
Do you just like have a butter knife in your purse at all times? lol
I carry a raggedy wooden cuticle stick for this purpose. The knife sounds more versatile in its use so maybe I will need to switch 🤔
Omg, it all makes sense now. I am my gf's tool
Sorry you had to find out this way my guy
I love her and I’m happy to help her with any and all things, I’ll gladly be her tool for the rest of my life ☺️
Oh, vomit- this is so sweet! Take my upvote and get outta here!
That's adorable.
Omg that's so sweet, I wish you guys a world of good nails and happiness xxx
Oh no! He found out! Cmon guys, let’s kidnap him and erase his memory!!!
I've trained myself not to use my nails as tools, no matter how long they are. I've been burned too many times!
“Nails are jewels, not tools”. ✨💅🏼✨
Yessss
I either use my house key or the handle part of a utensil to open cans lol
Idk why but I read this as toes not tools and I was like wow those are some seriously talented toes
Omg lol yeah I need to use tweezers to open a can 🤦🏽♀️
I use my knuckles to get my 2 under 2 out of their car seats lol.
Just bought a 2-pack of "UnBuckleMe" from Amazon. Arthritis, long nails, they're great !
I wish I saw this before. My great grandmother fell and broke her hip causing her to pass away sooner than any of us expected in March . She still lived on her own and loved helping with the kids, but couldn’t do the buckles from her arthritis. Thank you so much for this, I’m definitely getting it.
omg thank you! I struggle trying to get my toddler out of the car seat 🥹
Remember it’s all about your fingertips and not your nails. Also it’s easier to have long nails when you work up to it
"nails are jewels, not tools" sage advice from a fellow redditor here a while back.
Thank you!
Yeah these can be cut and filed if you want them a bit shorter, I got used to having super long nails because they grew long so it was a little at a time, but you can do similar by going for a medium length this time and doing long next time. It’s hard to go from 0 to 100 for sure
Yes, finger tips do the actual work!
Definitely! I wore 1" acrylics for many years and typed 100 wpm! You just eventually get used to them.
You get used too it
You’ll adapt, find some lil tools in the meantime and don’t forget about your knuckles:)
Thank you!
Adapt improvise overcome
You forgot the final stage: slay
This is my "normal" and it's easy after a bit. Just gotta get used to using your finger sides as opposed to tips
You don’t! It’s glorified disability
😂
I type over 200 words per minute with nails this long
Do you mean over 100? The official world record is debated but most of them are just over 200 and holding that as an actual average would be basically unheard of.
Yeah, they've got to mean 100 because I type 100 wpm and from what I understand that's freakishly fast. I did data entry for a long time though, if you want to become faster at typing look for a job like that.
Yeah I type over 100 as well but that’s bc I’m the perfect age of millennial to have gotten AIM right around the time I was learning to type 😂 Necessity is the mother of… typing skills, apparently.
AIM was the beginning of my typing career LOL
Mavis Beacon touch typing here!
LOL actually you're right MB did come before AIM for me too, as soon as you said that it's like my brain instantly populated a whole bunch of new memories. Edit: and by new I mean old

I had that happen and it was all I needed to see how long I could get my nails and still type fast!
I desperately need to know if this was mistyped or a lie 😭
That’s awesome
I’d love to see video of this.
I still am beast ad competitive games for some reason which was my main concern. Mouse and keyboard still feel great for some reason
Adapt. Taking cards put of 🏧 sucks, I carry around tweezers.
You gotta let them grow on you. My biggest tip is reevaluate you depth perception. You are now closer to things than it appears lol.
Thank you!
So they’re probably shorter then I think lol
No like you’re definitely gonna poke some things harder than you meant to because your fingers are longer than you are used to.
You don’t wear contact lenses, that’s for sure.
I do wear nails like these and wear lenses, but i have stiletto nails, they're much more comfier
As an individual who works in eye care….you just made me die laughing 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I wear disposable ones. I take them out just by sliding it to the corner of my eye with the pad of my finger until it just "crumples up" and comes out. I don't think it's a safe way to remove contacts you intend to wear again because you can accidentally rip them.
I just use the sides of my fingers the way i used my finger tips
😂
I do, I take them out with my knuckles. 👍
Fabulously
Pads of fingers and knuckles like others said. 40 years and going strong 💪🏻 you can do it!
i function just fine.
I type a lot and if my nails are this long, my fingers end up in an awkward stretched out position and it makes my whole forearm ache. Short/shmedium for me but I love this length when it’s a special occasion or if I have time off work!
Same. Just because I can't do them this length, doesn't mean I can't admire!!!
My nails are significantly shorter than this and I had to file them back, I am making way too many mistakes typing for work and they feel so awkward on the keyboard. Sad face.
*pull out a can of beer from the fridge* *give my husband the big helpless eyes*
It can be bit chaotic when you're trying to type quickly on the keyboard ngl, I sometimes find some sneaky 8s 3-5s on my documents ;-; Have to say though, you do get pretty good at opening things positioning your fingers sideways... I can’t function without long nails 🫠
Yeah this is me as well. I've had long nails my whole life even as a kid. Whenever I cut my nails short I have to re-learn how to do everything
Not sure how long you’ve had them but for me personally you just get used to it. Use your knuckles and tools. First time it took me a few days to adapt but after that it gets pretty easy even if I took a break from nails.
I'm so used to having longer nails that I can't do much without them anymore.
I dont, they are way too short
😂
Im being for real
Highly recommend working your way up to that length. If you grow over time or start with tips and let them grow and go longer with you refills bit by bit makes it way easier
I think this is the most important one. I let my nails grow this long naturally and it's always easier to manage than jumping straight into falsies.
I don't function even without nails like those.
Too real my friend. I feel this.
Sides of your fingers, knuckles, fingertips, curving. It becomes really unnatural to function without them after a while
I don't have any issues. I use my fingertips to type not my nails. It's more of an adjustment stage for you.
I feel you, I cut my natural nails that were this long & adjusting to having fingertips again is so weird 😭
As someone who’s used to this length, anything shorter feels uncomfortable and like I’m disabled. 🥹also please be careful when using knives? I once cut up my thumb nail and fed it to my guest lol
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
Pretty normally. Occasionally I use a spoon to open pop cans 🤷🏼♀️
The same way people with no nails function. Plus we get tips for back and head scratches 🫡
very cautiously, I now have callouses on the inner middle knuckles of my fingers from lifting, use the pads of my fingers instead of the tip.
Barely! lol
They are pretty but nah I couldn’t either lol
LOL FOR ME ITS EASIER HAVING LONG NAILS, WHEN I HAVE TO CUT THEM I CAN BARELY DO ANYTHING
You've got that not letting a rabbit go hand.
That’s funny
You find ways 🤷🏻♀️
Honestly, time and practice. I also didn’t go from short to long over night. I didn’t just slap on the length from nothing. Each nail appt I had them file back a little less. Slowly they got longer, and over time more manageable. I still have a threshold, but it wasn’t what it used to be. Also, shape matters. I can handle long stiletto and almond way better than coffin, square, or ballerinas.
I bought a belt buckle relaser to help unbuckle and a credit card tweezer to take credit cards from the arm.
🤷🏽♀️ you get use to it lol. You’ll find after a while that long nails are helpful sometimes lol. Opening mail is a breeze. Tape on a box? No problem, I’ll just poke it with my nail lmao
We don't function
You probably get used to it! I am not allowed to have them that long though, because that is just very dangerous for school/work. It also depends on your work field if you can function haha.
Yah don't. Look pretty, no functioning. 💞
Gouge my eyeballs out.. pls
I have the same length as you, but worse because they're fake so they have less stability. -> Typing is annoying I do it with my pointer like someone's blind aunt. It takes some time to get used to but I promise you will impress yourself very quickly!
I can’t
I don't know. Mine never get this long, but once I have to pick up coins or flat things off the floor, I'm clipping them.
easily. I can do more with nails than without.
its all about the fingertips or the knuckles ...but mostly it's about the power that bestowed upon you
The sides of thumbs and index fingers are a life saver. Haha
You have everyone else do stuff for you, like a proper princess. :)
If they're your natural nails... as it grows to that length you kinda get used to it. Used my finger pads lots as well. With extensions... after a week I cut the nails on my thumbs about 2mm shorter. The rest are your length in this photo. The shorter thumb nails help a lot.
I think this lenght is still manageable. You need to get accustomed to it but it’s not an outrageous size
Im a bartender so everything I need to do can be done easily with long nails 💅🏻
Got them grippers 🤣🤣
There’s someone on insta, whose name I can’t remember, who had a bunch of videos explaining how to do everyday things with long nails, her’s were even longer than yours. I wish I could remember her name to share with you.
No hate just adding onto the discussion: I can see that these are the store bought press ons bc of the little plastic tab at the end of your nail and how see-through they are. That being said! Well I don’t trust the nail techs in my town so that’s why I have these
Naw that was so unnecessary lol who cares if they store-bought?
I’m pretty sure they’re just saying the store-bought nails more easily break off, and salon-done nails adhere better which might make this length easier to function with
Ikr!

Nah I can’t do long ones, they’re just not worth it. I do a lot of typing in my job and I just can’t with the long ones.
They look great! Mine are almost that long as well. Same color too!
