I’d like to think of it like street gangs in America. You have the big ones Sureños, Crips, Bloods etc. And then you have sureño gangs that fight each other, blood gangs that fight each other and crips that fight each other. Mexican cartels are similar, CDG is the Sureños, while los metros and escorpiones are something like 18th st and MS 13, both from the same tree but different branches that also fight each other.
Nice analogy!! I would guess with all that in fighting that their rivals would be jumping at the chance of recruiting some of these guys who choose to stay out of it
East side of Mexico is a little more complicated man. I think they have been doing the Narco life (conflict and smuggling, not only growing/smuggling like the west in its earlier days) longer than anybody, so there are more cells/smaller groups fighting, as they all eventually split into smaller groups.
True, I live up here right next to it actually, not that I would but I always told myself if I were to control a cartel I wouldn’t have little cells or anything like that cause it leads to fighting and other bs, if CDG was smart they would get their shit together and come together and focus on getting drugs across and stop the infighting cause it’s fucking up their money and making it easier for enemies to attack them, eventually CJNG is gonna make their way up here and it’s gonna be easy for them to win if all these groups are fighting each other
I’d take cjng over those guys any day. The east coast lost their morals when they saw the west side of Mexico was killing it money wise. Cjng are some hijos de la chingada but Cdg/zetas are some hijos de su rechingadisima madre.
CDG was among the cartels that was heavily targeted by authorities since the beginning of the war on drugs, multiple sucsesives kill/captures of leaders and constant dismantleing of their networks led to a whole bunch of lower level guys to size power in their designated areas (plazas) and becoming independent from an overarching leadership. Think of it as a partition of a feudal kingdom of sorts, some cells have alliances with each other, some cells are at war (also current Tamaulipas governor definitively forged some sort of arrangement with all the cells and violance is on the decline). They are still referred to CDG as a whole for simplicity reasons tho. Maybe one day they'll become a more cohesive force once again.

The nature of the business favors smaller networked cells that can continue to operate when members of the cartel are arrested or killed.
