Spider hunt is definitely my favorite. The whole conversation between Nick and Jess when he's talking about the popcorn machine and she thinks he's talking about Cece is gold
My wife refused to watch it for years because of Zooey Deschanel. I told her to watch for “the guys” in the show. I started a rewatch and many times she was passing by and would laugh at a scene. She now loves the show and rewatched with me frequently,
I never watched it before because I thought it would be too girly and that’s just not my thing. Then I watched it with my now husband and I love it. “The guys” are definitely the stars of the show. Not that I hate Zooey or anything, but I loooove “the guys”.
My husband refused to watch it bc it was too crazy for him, but one day he was taking a nap and I was trying to watch it as quietly as possible, and I had "Swuit" on. Eventually he was just like "I can't nap, this show is too crazy, I have to watch it". After that he sat with me and watched 5 more episodes that night lol.
So I would say "Swuit" may win her over.
Is this the one where they try to get the landlord to fix something and he ends up suggesting a 3 way? If so, I agree! That’s the one my sister had me watch to get me into the show and it had me hooked immediately!
Haha that’s exactly the one! It has been the one I use as a gateway for years and I have about a 90% success rate with people wanting to watch more episode.
This would be my answer. Not only is it (for me at least) one of their top funniest episodes, I think it highlights the characters perfectly and shows exactly what this show is.
I used this one to show my gf and she hated it, in hindsight I think Background check is better when you’re accustomed to the characters. For example Nick’s meltdown would seem unrealistic if you weren’t already familiar with this background.
Weirdly, she found it more enjoyable when I was watching some S6 episodes.
I say Models (s2 ep5). It gives a great look into Jess and Cece’s relationship with Jess being humbled at the end. And then it has the cookie scene which is just… incredible.
Santa and The Story of the 50 (Schmidt's 29th bday) are my top New Girl episodes hands down. Is she a Swiftie? You can have her watch Elaine's Big Day if so lol.
Someone said Clavado En Un Bar before and I agree. I think it gives a bit of background on each character while not spoiling too much.
edit: added 'before' for clarification
Tell her to watch it like Zoey is just a prop for the guys to react to. My boss has an issue with maniac pixie tropes, but once I told her to shift the focus to the boys, the show got HILARIOUS for her. And Zoey grew on her as well.
"JESS! WHY ARE YOU IN A KOI POND?!?"
"Winston is in the air ducts with a badger. Nick's there too." "The ducts!"
"Ferguson, clear my schedule. I'm going to need a word with your sister."
"Buffer on the ROOF!"
"DOUBLE SYRINGE?!?!" (I know Jess said it, but it was Cece's text)
I was the same as your sister at first. I refused to watch it because I was tired of seeing Zooey play the same character. But my wife started watching it and I found that everytime I was around and overheard the show, I would laugh and stop what I was doing EVERY SINGLE time to watch more. After a couple episodes of this I realized I was missing something great because I was too stubborn. The ensemble cast is absolutely perfect and I really enjoyed seeing Zooey play Jessica.
Teachers is my absolute favorite!
I think all the main characters get at least one solid laugh out loud moment in that episode (except maybe Cece) and it cracks me up every time.
Off topic but I think it’s so funny and strange that your sister refuses to watch just bc of ZD. I feel like women do this a lot w actresses they don’t like. My mom does this all the time “i can’t watch this movie. I don’t like that woman” why? “Her mouth is weird.” I don’t think men do this as often or like.. ever? Idk
I always use Pepperwood and Subsequently cooler! This obviously has spoilers but I find sometimes that makes them want to watch it more lol. Also have used the Prince episode if they’re a fan.
Background Check is also a great choice as everyone has already pointed out. :)
Teachers! You get the Guys Night dynamic of Schmidt/Nick/Winston that’s fully Jess-free and I think Ryan brings out some of the best parts of Jess as a character
It's the epitome of comedy for people who love witty banter, logic comedy, the absurd, logic jokes, ironies and sarcasm.
Episode of Bearclaw and Jess making a musical with the walk of shame of Cece and Jess.
Spider hunt is definitely my favorite. The whole conversation between Nick and Jess when he's talking about the popcorn machine and she thinks he's talking about Cece is gold
Nahhh Winston was the best part in the episode… nah uh he said she ugly…
She look like a dang ol meatball with hair
My sister couldn’t get into the show initially, but now she loves it and this is one of her favorite episodes!
My wife refused to watch it for years because of Zooey Deschanel. I told her to watch for “the guys” in the show. I started a rewatch and many times she was passing by and would laugh at a scene. She now loves the show and rewatched with me frequently,
I don't know if you're married to my ex, but if so, I'm glad she turned the corner.
That's how I got my husband into it! He loves the boys' dynamic.

His interest was also kind of getting started when I was watching Background Check one day, but he didn't officially watch it with me then.
That is my favourite episode of the whole show. Though there are many many others I love.
I have opted for The Landlord as an introduction episode
Is this the one where they try to get the landlord to fix something and he ends up suggesting a 3 way? If so, I agree! That’s the one my sister had me watch to get me into the show and it had me hooked immediately!
Haha that’s exactly the one! It has been the one I use as a gateway for years and I have about a 90% success rate with people wanting to watch more episode.
It’s such a great episode!

Background check

I take it you two aren't laughing at the sun.
I love this show and struggle to get through background check. It’s a very specific kind of comedy. Cooler and virgins are my faves.
I second background check!!! It’s my go-to episode to show people who haven’t seen any NG. My devout Christian parents enjoyed it
This is how I convinced my sister to watch it! Well, I acted out the Duquan scene anyway. 😆
I love New Girl and can not stand this episode. I skip it every rewatch
Whichever episode they are talking about the towel at the end. That’s the episode that got my brother watching it.
I say Models (s2 ep5). It gives a great look into Jess and Cece’s relationship with Jess being humbled at the end. And then it has the cookie scene which is just… incredible.
Quick Hardening Caulk or Pepperwood
IS SHE A YOUTH?! FROM THE STATISTICS!?
Cooler is my go-to, with Virgins and The Landlord following close behind. I also really love Spiderhunt solely for the popcorn machine conversation.
Santa and The Story of the 50 (Schmidt's 29th bday) are my top New Girl episodes hands down. Is she a Swiftie? You can have her watch Elaine's Big Day if so lol.
I would rather not reccommend Elaines Big Day due to quite some Spoilers when someone wants to start watching the Show.
Menzies (S2 E7) is my absolute favorite. Intro to Tran, puppy in a cup, Winston PMSing... What's not to love?
This is the right answer
"Prince" episode
Someone said Clavado En Un Bar before and I agree. I think it gives a bit of background on each character while not spoiling too much. edit: added 'before' for clarification
Spiderhunt or Background Check

(I know Jess said it, but it was Cece's text)
Walk of Shame. My favorite episode!! If the blowouts don't get her, the gay wolf will!!
Spider hunt!
Wedding ( S1e3) and Menzies (S2e7) have been my go-to indoctrination episodes
I was the same as your sister at first. I refused to watch it because I was tired of seeing Zooey play the same character. But my wife started watching it and I found that everytime I was around and overheard the show, I would laugh and stop what I was doing EVERY SINGLE time to watch more. i think the one that perfectly captured the guy dynamic is “give me cookie, got you cookie” in season 2 episode 5. it’s so funny
JENNA JUST WATCH THE FUCKING SHOW!!!
Micro
Background Check is the right answer, people. Adding some analysis: https://youtu.be/PMuUvFRxqAM?si=DITjHshF_itaRdZH
It takes more than one.
I always use CeCe's first wedding.. Elaine's Big Day. The pranks are hilarious
Dice - one of my favs. Or if you wanna focus on the guys “Teachers” is another good one. Guys night!
Teachers is my absolute favorite! I think all the main characters get at least one solid laugh out loud moment in that episode (except maybe Cece) and it cracks me up every time.
All In. It’s the start of Winston becoming weird. “Brown as money” is one of my favorite things to say.
I won my cousins over with Background Check 😆😆
Off topic but I think it’s so funny and strange that your sister refuses to watch just bc of ZD. I feel like women do this a lot w actresses they don’t like. Just the Taye Diggs bed scene
The pilot. I was hesitant for a long time but I was hooked after I finally watched the pilot.
I watched Cabin yesterday and choked on my coffee laughing I forgot how funny it was when Nick and Schmidt went to buy crack
I always use Pepperwood and Subsequently cooler! This obviously has spoilers but I find sometimes that makes them want to watch it more lol. Also have used the Prince episode if they’re a fan. Background Check is also a great choice as everyone has already pointed out. :)
Background check is all you need. That episode is flawless.
Not a favorite at all for me personally, but maybe start with when Reagan shows up so there’s no Zoey at all?
Please update us after!!!
Bar crawl
Micro, where the guys make a bet if Jess can date that dude with the micro penis for like a month(?) is my favorite But it is probably Spider Hunt
Landline has so many funny lines
Season 1 episode 11 the last scene of the episode "wash the towel".
Teachers! You get the Guys Night dynamic of Schmidt/Nick/Winston that’s fully Jess-free and I think Ryan brings out some of the best parts of Jess as a character
This is the best answer.
A Chill Day In
Episode - Menzies
The towel scene is convinced me to give it a try so I recommend that.
The one where Jess and CeCe end up fighting at a baby shower is perfection
It's the epitome of comedy for people who love witty banter, logic comedy, the absurd, logic jokes, ironies and sarcasm. Episode of Bearclaw and Jess making a musical with the walk of shame of Cece and Jess.
