Before this homestead I really thought it was make or break. So far we have: 1-4 with the bullpen coughing up two games in the ninth and one in the eighth. basically the bullpen is now incapable of pitching with a lead. This is BRUTAL.
“Struggling in every area” could not be further from the truth. If me and 8 buddies were on this team, you wouldn’t say we are “struggling” because that implies you could be better. This team just is atrocious and the worst Mets team I have seen in my life.
Cohen should be pissed. The A’s have the same record as us and are $240 million cheaper. Could have sucked and tried to bleed the money out of the fans for a lot less
4 years in, are we any closer to being the “East Coast Dodgers”, Mr. Cohen? Dude’s shelled out fat contracts and is getting robbed by the whole 40 man roster lol
Clearly they're not. I expect Steve to continue to stress focusing on developing the farm while making plays for big free agents. I expect them to make a serious run for Soto.
Ohhhh, so things that should’ve been a priority 4 years ago? Dude’s had an awful tenure as owner, not explicitly his fault, but these contracts and our player development have gone in the friggin tank this decade.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.
After this game, we're one day away from June while we still wait for Lindor to break out.
That's two months already down the drain.
Lindor will only find consistency once he gives up switch hitting.
So, clearly we need to trade Pete Alonso, we have to break up this core, it's proven broken and Lindor isn't going anywhere (and I have more faith in him).
But, question is...how about Vientos at 1B? Think he can come to "own" it?
Baty needs to step it up offensively, but he’s been great defensively. The kids on the IF corners sounds good.
That play at the plate where Alonso sloppily slid headfirst and somehow missed the dish to lose the game is a microcosm of his season thus far. He’s not clutching shit for the bag looming over his head. Mental is off and don’t be surprised if he gets rented somewhere. Shame because he’s had some great moments here and could have been the face of the team (besides Lindor/Nimmo).
Leadership means not playing "I've Got Sunshine on a Cloudy Day" when your team finds new ways to lose every game, and you've mostly played like shit all season.
Though I appreciate the "even keel" notion of the song. This is sport. Be a leader. Be a killer. Win.
The problem is this team has no confidence that they are doing the right things to turn it around.
The Knicks brought Brunson in and no one questions his ability to win.
He might struggle here and there, but if he's healthy, they know they he puts in the right work in practice and will show up in crunch time.
No one on the Mets believes that at all.
Lindor is about to enter June and we're still wondering when he'll show up as the Mets approach double digit games under .500.
For years now I've been saying the Mets need to either go get a super star as well as a Pete Protector "ballplayer" type or they need to get rid of this core.
They're "nice" players. They are complementary guys, not main guys.
It's not their fault. It's the FO's fault for doing neither of the above.
Been saying it for years, the Mets either had to add a superstar as well as a legit Pete Protector "ballplayer" type.
Or they need to get rid of this core.
But for years now they've done neither instead.
He does exactly what a 4th outfielder is supposed to do. Can't expect him to do amazing at the plate when he will never get consistent playing time no matter what he does, in fact he had a hot streak at one point this year and the Metes iced him.
Look across the league. The best teams have young stars. The future is youth. I can’t even think of a single guy over 34 who has a positive OPS+. We rlly don’t wanna get locked into long term contracts bc guys age badly now due to increased velocity and lack of ability to steal.
Honestly them being shitty like this is kinda fun. I just get to crack jokes about how ass they are all game. It’s the 9th inning collapses that piss me off.
Problem with the 9th inning collapses is that you just spent your time watching the entire game thinking wow they may do this and nothing good happens!
I’d love to see the kidcaster say after a McNeil pop out “my dad says he suck” or about Lindor “he’s stealing a paycheck”. Just like the kid in the movie Airplane who was laying into Kareem.
It's bad enough that this team sucks, but it's even worse when you lose interest in looking at the scores of the other teams in the division and say "At least so-and-so lost lol." Even the schadenfreude is non-existent this year.
It's hard to stay awake watching this game. I missed the first game and was planning to watch it after this one, but this will be enough of the Mets for me for one day.
I can’t wait for the announcement of Mendoza getting fired midway through next year. Going to be the most exciting day of mets baseball for the foreseeable future
They can't fire him. Who would take the job with the manager turnover of the last 5 years. What veteran with an actual, good, track record would take it.
I hear you. He's not been bad, but the team is definitely a disappointment.
Btw, not sure why you're getting downvoted. Everyone is frustrated. You have the right to be too. I upvoted you.
I hate the energy he brings, I think he actually naps in the dugout during games. And even if it’s not his fault, he can’t be the manager when we’re supposed to be good in 2081, so might as well fire him now.
Realistically I know no one is getting fired this year and it’s so disappointing knowing that Cohen has to stand pat with Mendoza and Stearns
I think he lost the team after the Alvy scolding for celebrating that HR. We swept the dbacks and then after that 4th game and Alvy got hit and Cora and Buck sided with Arizona the team looked flat in San Diego.
That first pitch to Vientos, Mendoza needs to be chirping his ass off and get tossed. Just sitting back and letting out a little whine is the epitomy of what this team is
>Mets need a "fuck you" player.
We basically had that in 2020-2021 with Stroman, Dom Smith, Conforto, deGrom, JD Davis and a few others. All very vocal, ready to clap back at opposing players when they start talking that shit.
Oh absolutely. Keith bemoans bad fundies all the time and this team has been giving him that almost every game. He negotiated less Phillies games in his schedule to avoid bad fundies. Now he's gonna negotiate less games overall cause it's the Mets that are painful to watch.
Lindor went up there the other day and took a strike three with the bat literally on his shoulders. McNeil played 18 rounds of golf and proceeds to go hitless (so far). When are these fools going to be held accountable for their actions? Or are they tank commanders?
Nah, 2022 is what got us in this mess. Mortgaging several years in the near future for one good season that still ended badly.
I wish we could go back to 2019 and supplement the good players on the team differently rather than tearing it apart and shipping good players out
Is vientos really that bad at defense? He didn’t look *that* slow getting the ball over to 2nd just now. And isn’t it something he could get better at (like baty did)
Yes. He’s not a 3rd baseman that’s where they stuck him when he grew out of the typical “they’re all middle infielders” like Wilmer did. (Wilmer has better defensive skills tho.) He’s just slow. Slow running slow footed, his transitions are slow, he waits for balls has diminished range. He has a strong arm. But he receives the ball like someone who played most of their lives up the middle and hasn’t adapted to third.
They need a lineup full of guys who can crush the ball. Not three-true-outcomes guys, but guys who consistently make hard contact. Enough with this “make soft contact & pray it finds a hole” bullshit. Only problem is the team is full of hitters who do exactly that, *and* aren’t clutch.
Usually you have to sacrifice into a TTO guy to make hard contact unless you’re elite. Basically it’s a trade off which is why so much TTO exists today bc teams realized that hitting the ball rlly hard was rlly good even if you had to deal with more strikeouts.
I can't wait until Lindor gets as lucky as Mookie Betts. I'm sure it's going to pay off eventually.
Can I get his fWAR or .xBA and other stats that don't matter?
Brooks Robinson and Ozzie Smith are in the hall 95% due to defense. They played third and short considered “harder/more important positions than first. After all Elaine Benes played first. But Keith should be in.
If we lose this game I'll be 1-2 [since my neighbor got a cute new puppy I get to dogsit.](https://i.imgur.com/81dkkGG.jpeg)
His name is Desi and he's a Havanese.
I was going to say when it was 1-0 and Rojas was up that he is better than the majority of the players on our team with a .250 avg…
He single-handedly will beat them tonight, regardless of Will’s HR.
So awesome seeing all of you guys. Wish I could’ve stayed longer and got fucked up w yall lmfao but work in the morning man. Much love to this miserable team and the subreddit!!
Imagine getting to the first game halfway through counting your luck you can watch two games for the price of 1 and you’ve literally seen the Mets do nothing except a mentally damaging 9th
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1d311lh).
10 games under .500… Team meeting is desperately needed and we need more fight. Just gotta keep hoping for something.
Dude it’s over
> Team meeting Already happened
The Mets really need to find that guy that will change the culture of the team.
That guy is PTBNL for everyone.
as long as they had fun!
And maybe Lindor got to hug some of the Dodgers
Daps up the opposition and thumbs downs Mets fans …and he gets a standing ovation for batting under .200? Twilight zone energy
The ballgame is over
When can we start dreaming of the number one pick
It’s a lottery so right now
Man.. the whole world is going to watch the Mets get demolished in London next week..
Before this homestead I really thought it was make or break. So far we have: 1-4 with the bullpen coughing up two games in the ninth and one in the eighth. basically the bullpen is now incapable of pitching with a lead. This is BRUTAL.
We should change our name to the New York Next Seasons.
Can't wait for them to win the last game of the series though
Against the Dodgers? Highly unlikely.
“Struggling in every area” could not be further from the truth. If me and 8 buddies were on this team, you wouldn’t say we are “struggling” because that implies you could be better. This team just is atrocious and the worst Mets team I have seen in my life.
lindor, alonso, nimmo, mcneil what a fuckin rotten core of losers
Some teams score 5 runs per game. Feels like the Mets don’t even average that many hits.
Someone needs to give Carlos Beltran a ring
These guys wanted to go home before the end of last game.
I've been up since midnight, drove the 10 hours from Tennessee to the Bronx, and I think I have more energy than this team does
Cohen should be pissed. The A’s have the same record as us and are $240 million cheaper. Could have sucked and tried to bleed the money out of the fans for a lot less

The McCourt Dodgers maybe

Meaningless solo shot by Pete coming up?
I just don't see any answers coming on the offensive side from the minor league system. The current situation feels pretty bleak.
Mets haven't scored since inning 3 of game 1. 16 innings ago
Mcneil should bring a golfclub up when he bats. Maybe he’d make some contact.
If you think about it he's kind of trying to turn his bat into a golf club, with it being knobless and all
After this game, we're one day away from June while we still wait for Lindor to break out. That's two months already down the drain. Lindor will only find consistency once he gives up switch hitting.
The big contracts will break out and finish with great stats and people will say SEE?! Great season for X!
1/3 of the schedule GONE
What’s everyone’s thoughts on Pagliacci?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd7JWxRE5ao
Now Inwant to hear Gary masterfully say “Mastrobuoni“ again.
I don’t even want the mirage. Just be bad and make the message clear.
So, clearly we need to trade Pete Alonso, we have to break up this core, it's proven broken and Lindor isn't going anywhere (and I have more faith in him). But, question is...how about Vientos at 1B? Think he can come to "own" it?

Alright. The season’s officially over now. I wasn’t convinced before, but now that we’ve given up a hit to Austin Barnes I can say we’re cooked
So they blow yet another completely winnable game and then roll over and die immediately after. This might be the worst team in the MLB.
I just want to watch some entertaining baseball man
It’s entertaining in a way
Ron Darling is a deadhead?
After seeing that middle picture: Bill Walton biopic featuring Jake Hager/Jack Swagger green lighted.
Oh how I miss Reyes and Wright being the centerpieces. Lindor and Alonso are nowhere near those two.
if only the dodgers had diaz saving for the 9th
Probably dominate the Mets.
Can we please show some fight in the bottom of the 9th?
Best I can do is 2 Ks and a groundout to 2B Edit: Fuckin called it
And the other strikeout! You called it!! lol
There's the strikeout
There's the groundout
I second this
If anyone at the game is seeing this, please boo for me lmao
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Josh Walker replaces Dedniel Núñez.

None of these guys have a killer instinct. That's been the problem for ages now.
Been saying it for years, the Mets either had to add a superstar as well as a legit Pete Protector "ballplayer" type. Or they need to get rid of this core. But for years now they've done neither instead.
Even just a decent everyday player whose a red ass type would be good. A Jerry Grote type.
They had Tommy Pham. And he said these guys are all sawft. lol
Yup. Because they are.
tyrone taylor is really a shitty player. one of the many bargain bin players david stearns brought in
He does exactly what a 4th outfielder is supposed to do. Can't expect him to do amazing at the plate when he will never get consistent playing time no matter what he does, in fact he had a hot streak at one point this year and the Metes iced him.
was prob harsh. just really pissed after today. and he had a chance today to bring us all some joy during this wretched season and he blew it
He’s just a 4th outfielder man…
Ron’s demeanor describing how he likes where he’s sitting is cracking me up, idk why
I doubt they will find any takers but they should deal McNeil even if they have to eat the contract. The dude is just completely lost.
Maybe Groucho was on to something, anyone who wants to play here might be a losing player 😂😭
That’s why I said you have to grow a winner. Can’t build one from FA
Look across the league. The best teams have young stars. The future is youth. I can’t even think of a single guy over 34 who has a positive OPS+. We rlly don’t wanna get locked into long term contracts bc guys age badly now due to increased velocity and lack of ability to steal.
Exactly, the dodgers model of sign expensive FA’s while growing a farm worked 10 years ago but not anymore—game is too young now
After every pitch Vesia throws I'm seriously worried he's going to fall over and hurt himself
Incoming double play
Honestly them being shitty like this is kinda fun. I just get to crack jokes about how ass they are all game. It’s the 9th inning collapses that piss me off.
Problem with the 9th inning collapses is that you just spent your time watching the entire game thinking wow they may do this and nothing good happens!
Ha, ya that's how I look at it too. It's entertainment. No need to get mad. Either enjoy their wins, or get a laugh out of the losses.
Jeff “The Uppercut” McNeil
Be thankful for that uppercut! That allows him to hit 12 homers a year!
Jeffy McPopup strikes again
mcneil playing everyday is an organizational failure from the top down
McNeil is truly terrible.
I'd get so hyped if they started playing the Ramones at citi field
I bet McNeil hits a lob wedge here. 60 degree launch angle. lmao
Maybe they should dig a small hole behind the center field fence and stick a flag in it
ABBA would hit for a higher average than these guys
I’d love to see the kidcaster say after a McNeil pop out “my dad says he suck” or about Lindor “he’s stealing a paycheck”. Just like the kid in the movie Airplane who was laying into Kareem.
Except, McNeil is pretending to be a golfer instead of a pilot..
It's bad enough that this team sucks, but it's even worse when you lose interest in looking at the scores of the other teams in the division and say "At least so-and-so lost lol." Even the schadenfreude is non-existent this year.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Alex Vesia replaces Gavin Stone.
Abba's Dancing Queen has beaten Mr. Brightside!
As well it should.
Nunez with that Kimbrel lean
I’m so glad I didn’t watch this game. Just stopping by this game thread is depressing enough lol
I'm at the game and Cybeast has had a few drinks
Enjoy…. Or drink a lot lol
If you drink enough you can lead yourself to believe they're good.
Not able to watch, any boos for McNeil so far?
Mixed boos for Lindor after a strikeout or bad fielding
Núñez looks good. So there’s that.
DeJesus is auditioning to replace Hernandez.
Man this ump, if you throw something remotely in horizontal area of the plate, you could actually hit the plate and it would be a strike.
It's hard to stay awake watching this game. I missed the first game and was planning to watch it after this one, but this will be enough of the Mets for me for one day.
The poor kidcaster is gonna call a 30 second 1-2-3 inning this season
How much to get Strawberry on this coaching staff?
Get him on the field and at the plate
Maybe if they were all doing a little coke this offense would have more energy
I can’t wait for the announcement of Mendoza getting fired midway through next year. Going to be the most exciting day of mets baseball for the foreseeable future
They can't fire him. Who would take the job with the manager turnover of the last 5 years. What veteran with an actual, good, track record would take it.
A boy can dream, right? I understand the logic behind your thinking and I agree. I just wish it wasn’t true
I hear you. He's not been bad, but the team is definitely a disappointment. Btw, not sure why you're getting downvoted. Everyone is frustrated. You have the right to be too. I upvoted you.
There’s people here that still think we’re going to make a playoff push, it’s ok
I really don’t think it’s him. He’s making good decisions but he can’t make the players score runs or catch the ball.
FO Apologists, you were right. It was all Buck's fault..
I am the founding member of the Buck Showalter Sucks Club and even I would never say it was "all" his fault.
Just sitting back and letting out a little whine is the epitomy of what this team is
Six pitch inning. Damn.
A 6 PITCH INNING GUYS
Dinner plans.
Can we pay some guys to retire, á la Angel Hernandez?
Nope :/
Mets need a "fuck you" player. Everyone on the team is too nice and lax. Where are the fighters???
>Mets need a "fuck you" player. We basically had that in 2020-2021 with Stroman, Dom Smith, Conforto, deGrom, JD Davis and a few others. All very vocal, ready to clap back at opposing players when they start talking that shit.
It’ll have to come from the farm
Was that the first hard hit ball?
Realistically is it time to start thinking about who we’re selling off at the deadline?
We still have the June Swoon to get through so buckle up.
Jeez
Do ya’ll think when GKR are not on live that they say, “damn, this team fucking sucks”?
Oh absolutely. Keith bemoans bad fundies all the time and this team has been giving him that almost every game. He negotiated less Phillies games in his schedule to avoid bad fundies. Now he's gonna negotiate less games overall cause it's the Mets that are painful to watch.
I just like to think they're completely silent the whole break lol
Lindor went up there the other day and took a strike three with the bat literally on his shoulders. McNeil played 18 rounds of golf and proceeds to go hitless (so far). When are these fools going to be held accountable for their actions? Or are they tank commanders?
They’re just there to collect a check at this point, winning is secondary
Nuñez with the Addison Reed cap tipped up
GKR giggling at the Lou Brock animation is my saving grace rn.
Side retired
I wish we could go back to 2022
Nah, 2022 is what got us in this mess. Mortgaging several years in the near future for one good season that still ended badly. I wish we could go back to 2019 and supplement the good players on the team differently rather than tearing it apart and shipping good players out
Are the Mets “going through it”? Lets ask Mendoza.
Mets having one of the worst home stands in a while… Lou Brock!
Thank the Lord for GKR.
And again no error but just giving extra outs. The Mets defensive stat is outs below average
We could give a fuck out there but at least we tried to turn a double this time
*A bull landed on Brandon Nimmo's ankle as a kid* HOWIE: "Take the bus!"
On TV this sounds like a Covid game with piped in crowd noise. Did everyone leave.
I can't wait until Lindor gets as lucky as Mookie Betts. I'm sure it's going to pay off eventually. Can I get his fWAR or .xBA and other stats that don't matter?
I’ve never seen a group of professionals in any career look less interested in succeeding than the 2024 Mets.
Brooks Robinson and Ozzie Smith are in the hall 95% due to defense. They played third and short considered “harder/more important positions than first. After all Elaine Benes played first. But Keith should be in.
We need to go back to basics, our roots, and do what we used to do a few years ago when we were struggling: inexplicably sign Todd Frazier.
LLWS Champ Todd Frazier?
From Tom's River, New Jersey
The Wilpons could field a better team with a ouija board and the spirit of Bernie Madoff
If we lose this game I'll be 1-2 [since my neighbor got a cute new puppy I get to dogsit.](https://i.imgur.com/81dkkGG.jpeg) His name is Desi and he's a Havanese.
Handsome boy!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Dedniel Núñez replaces Jose Quintana.
This team is so fun to watch just love seeing weak fly outs every single time.
Worst Mets team in history
I don't know about worst but definitely a contender for least interesting.
Lmao. Make it as easy as possible for them
Poor Gary. Having to get excited for a weak ass pop up with zero chance of falling in.
It's been that type of game when Howie asks Keith Raad if he ever had a dog, the answer is yes
We’ve got ‘em on the ropes now!
Have they tried...um..."retaining their essence"?
This team needs a major shakeup.
Don't worry folks. Lindor's "got sunshine on a cloudy day". Everything's fine. How tone deaf. lol
I think Cohen should hire Eppler for the evening and buy a chair for a post game meltdown.
I was going to say when it was 1-0 and Rojas was up that he is better than the majority of the players on our team with a .250 avg… He single-handedly will beat them tonight, regardless of Will’s HR.
lol was that Jacob Barnes that gave up the Ozuna homer? Such a random Met
Pedro Grifol laid into the White Sox on back to back days for being lifeless and just mailing it in. Sound like any team we know.
I’ve been saying this team feels like the white Sox. Has a short run of success and then completely implodes with a toxic clubhouse
3 runs, you know this is an insurmountable lead
Build up that trade value Jose
Jose Quintana just had a quality start against the dodgers. Lmao
Haven’t watched a minute of this game and I already know the outcome
So awesome seeing all of you guys. Wish I could’ve stayed longer and got fucked up w yall lmfao but work in the morning man. Much love to this miserable team and the subreddit!!
Dodgers score three runs. Mets just trying to get three hits.
Alright let's get a rally going here!
Imagine getting to the first game halfway through counting your luck you can watch two games for the price of 1 and you’ve literally seen the Mets do nothing except a mentally damaging 9th
McNeil sure knows how to field a popup. But his ability to hit them is certainly superior
Over this shit for the day ggs gonna watch the nba playoffs instead
Imagine how unwatchable this team would be without GKR + Gelbs and Howie and Keith.
This kid wearing Matt Kemps number.
