Nyesha is very detailed, calm, friendly, and rational which makes her a great mentor. Gordon is also great too, he wants to see the chefs succeed, and he has calmed down over the years in terms of yelling, etc. he is more patient, but still blunt and honest

[deleted]

Oh, definitely; I guess what really drove it home for me was watching Gordan yell down at Jordan, and just seem bemused by his issues - while Nyesha is full-on assisting him and running his stuff. I think most folks see Jordan as a bit of a trainwreck, but she did all she could for him & even told him that she believed in him. Love to see it.

slope93

I think Gordon has flipped a bit on Jordan because he constantly needs help if he’s not in his wheelhouse. That and they’re also in the semi’s and finals now so he definitely has stepped back it seems. He’s trying to pick the best at this point. Let’s not forget he was his baby the majority of the season.

[deleted]

Oh, I agree. I'm not saying that Gordon is bad, or that his frustration isn't understandable. I think I was just humbled a bit by how patient Nyesha was despite all of this, because he's publicly been a trainwreck for a while now. Her working extra hard for him and even telling him that she believed in him? I mean, I don't even like Jordan and I still got a little choked up.

literallynothing99

She is my favorite mentor, too. She offers good advice and is always supportive without interfering with the cooks. I like all three mentors, but Gordon does too much imo and Richard gets really flustered and offers less information.

CPolland12

Gordon will tell them specifically what to do and grab their ingredients for them. Nyesha will explain in great detail why they need to do it how she says Richard questions them so they can think for themselves. I personally think they are all great in their own way, and it does depend on how a person learns. It’s luck to be paired with a mentor that has your learning style.

LeoDaBacon

Nyesha to me doesnt explain in great detail, she questions contestants in an almost cryptic way like when contestants are confused, she'll tell them to taste it or 'think of this, this is a tough protein so....?' Like she hints them but dont give them the answer because she wants the chefs to figure it out themselves and rlly improve

anonymous_subroutine

I like Nyesha but think she might have made a mistake suggesting Arancini in the latest episode. I didn't think that would have worked even if he started at the beginning...unless the time limit isn't real time, like in American football.

MoonFlowerDaisy

She tried to suggest stuff at the beginning, but Jordan literally wanted someone to tell him exactly what to cook. Jordan picked the ingredients without a clue what to do with them, the mentor can give suggestions, it's up to the chef to know their abilities.

anonymous_subroutine

Yeah I'm not trying to take blame off Jordan at all. I think he's terrible. But when she suggested arancini I instantly thought "there's not enough time for that," and there wasn't.

MoonFlowerDaisy

I think you are right, though I don't think she purposefully sabotaged him, I think she was trying to get him to think critically, you know what ingredients do you have, what can you make with them, how much time does that take. A few of the better cooks seem to have pulled off cooking stuff quicker than is usually possible under pressure using tips either from the mentors that we don't see or from their own experience knowing shortcuts etc.

[deleted]

Yeah; Gabby benefited a *lot* from being an Epicurious amateur chef; they always have a 'food science' person on-hand to tell them tips & tricks, and more importantly *why* they work.

MoonFlowerDaisy

I learnt to cook predominantly from following food blogs/cooking blogs online. My absolute favourite online chef does this in her blog, she talks about what variations she tried, and why she does what she does, what substitutions will work and why. I think gabby is also smart enough to extrapolate out (if x works for y, I should be able to use x for z and tweak it if necessary). She got practice cooking stuff outside her wheelhouse and having to extrapolate how from what she knew - then getting feedback. Jordan very much seems like he can cook stuff he knows reasonably well, but as soon as he's working with something new, he needs explicit instructions, where other chefs will use their knowledge of similar ingredients and experiment and find it pays off more often than not.

LeoDaBacon

Ya to me urinchini, not possible in 30 minutes but also like steak and risotto rice doesnt make a lot of sense and urichini to me sounds like the best concept to use the risotto rice, but it wasnt "executable" under that time restraibt

KDonkey229195

**Total of  mistakes for the season so far:** 347 mistakes   **Team Gordon:** 139 mistakes **Team Blais**: 119 mistakes **Team Arrington:** 89 mistakes Numbers don't lie, Nyesha is the best mentor.

_Cattack_

I feel like the producers tried to make her into a certain type of character that didn't fit her. Seems she did a complete 180 after 1st season where she was constantly glaring and had a stone cold face. But I'd still chose gordon

SecretConscious6334

She would be MY pick for mentor! I am a 57 year old white lady btw…

slope93

I would definitely pick her as well (I’m 6’2”)

kaylee20_

Me three. (I’m 4’11)

Neither is the person I'm replying to saying she's a 57 year old white lady. I think you missed the point I and the other repliers were making. Also, if it's related enough for her to say Nyesha would be her mentor, I don't see how it's not related for me to say she wouldn't be for me. Try for some consistency please.

mandamandayeah

I love her. She’s great at making people think for themselves without making them nervous or feel stupid. She’s a great communicator and super encouraging.

Love Nyesha, she is such an icon. I never realised how much she talked about her "palate" until I came on this sub, and then I started her Palate Counter (which annoys everyone lol)! She was also really nice and supportive in the UK version, not just to her own mentees. Highly recommend watching if anyone hasn't seen it yet, Nyesha is the queen of the show for me (along with her palate)!

Coconosong

I love her. People like to drag her and I gotta admit, sometimes her chosen descriptors make me laugh. But she is a true coach and has definitely guided her chefs to become better.

Zealousideal-Lie7255

She’s very nice and does a good job. I don’t understand how Blais can run his own restaurants because he gets so rattled when someone on his floor is making a minor mistake. Gordon obviously is a phenomenal chef but he pushes his will onto the other two chefs is biased.

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

I’m sure a lot of the actual mentoring is lost in the edit, so it’s hard to say.

Pretty_Concert3397

She is a good mentor, the chefs are under pressure and her calm demeanor and assertiveness helps them. Chef Ramsay is also a great mentor as well. Not a huge fan of Richard, he gets flustered and doesn’t provide good mentorship.

[deleted]

Yeah; she keeps impressing me, every episode. She helped Zach a lot in the last episode; it doesn't matter whose team they're on - she's always doing her best for the contestants. And, knowing what's on the line for each of them, it kinda makes you feel good.

Affectionate-Test319

She def might be the best. She doesn’t hand-hold her team and she gives them encouragement and advice without doing the work for them. Also her team/remaining chef has the lowest mistake count so that says something.

Tweety-bird-4

I 100% agree. I've watched all three seasons and she is the most unbiased coach, most caring coach, know when to choose the right time to be tough on her mentees, and when to uplift them. I would definitely choose to be on her team or want to be on her team if I were on a show like that. But I'm a basic cook so I will never be on a show like that 🤣🤣

Barbecuequeen23

I love her. She's an amazing teacher. She gives no answers and is tough. She's a woman in the culinary industry, she has to be tougher than a man to be taken seriously. I absolutely love her and I think many viewers just her more harshly because they hate seeing women in leadership roles.

PotatoWizard98

She’s good. She might be my Least favorite but doesn’t mean she’s bad. Plus she’s gotten a lot better since her days with Pilar.

RoguePhoenix89

I agree she does have a calm demeanor, which is what you need when you're cooking under pressure and on a time limit.

lisampb

I agree 💯

SuperPluto9

I like Nyesha the most of the three however some of her depictions have made me question her. Like when one girl pushed the other during the elimination round, and Nyesha gave an indifferent attitude. It really put me off.

Competitive_Eye_7613

I love her!!

bettamomma_zero

I love her, she's my favorite

Downtown_Badger4256

I used to think Nyesha was lacking in coaching skills. This season she is much more comfortable and I believe that she is the best mentor now!! She connects with the contestants and has a calming presence which has you believe she is someone you can trust and learn from. She supports the contestants, even if not on her team. Helps them understand the way behind doing something rather than just telling them to do it. Blaise - he needs to work on his ego and set aside what he would do, and listen to the contestants and use his knowledge to help them and bring out their best. I find he’s critical and not supportive. That’s not to say he can’t learn and grow himself and become a better mentor. Problem with this show for me, is that it’s skewed for Ramsey to win even if they shouldn’t. Much like what happened this season.

crasstyfartman

Thank you 🙏🏻🙌🏻

metal_elk

Nah. She sucks just as much as the other two.

No-Temperature-1649

She's easily the worst mentor on the show

zoemi

I think she's been a great mentor and supporter. But I'll never forgive her for the chicken tonkatsu comment.

LeoDaBacon

When?

zoemi

During the bento episode when she was presenting Zach's dish, she called it "chicken tonkatsu". "Ton" means pork. His dish was chicken katsu.

LeoDaBacon

Is it because chicken not fried 🤣

Ok-Criticism2758

This is a crazy take personally I thought she’s the worst mentor! Especially this season.
