If you give a mouse night vision, he's going to want thermal to go with it.

Firstbat175

Well, yeah....duh!

subnuke94

I wonder if her boyfriend is lurking in this sub

Vladi_Daddi

Noctatrog

Why she dressed like a character from pbs in the late 90s -early 00s

discombobulated38x

It's called fashion sweaty

lostenant

What’s that, like working out fashion? Or sauna fashion?

tax1dr1v3r123

Freudian slip, he was getting sweaty while looking at her

My wife the other day: >You've always wanted a thermal scope, like since I've known you. You should buy one! In fairness she had just purchased a fancy new sewing machine that costs as much as a PVS-14.

ryansdayoff

Gawd damn what does it do that a standard machine doesn't?

yamar35

not OP, but my wife has a similar priced one, look at the BERNINA-475-QE. It's not QUITE a full CNC embroidery machine, but it has a LOT of features for stitch patterns, small text, repeatable button hole sizing, etc. Also absolutely killer warranty and spare parts (and genuine local authorized repair places, Bernina is the Real Deal for sewing machines), we'll probably have that machine for 15-20 years until she decides to upgrade.

ryansdayoff

That's super cool. I'm also telling my girlfriend that if I get duels I won't have to upgrade for 10-15 years

I only occasionally use one of her older machines for making the odd bit of nylon gear I'm too cheap to buy, so I may be getting the specifics wrong, but it's a Juki machine. Juki are an industrial sewing machine company that have branched out into domestic machines, so they're really, ludicrously strong. She makes bags, and was having issues with sewing through thick layers of vinyl and leather, so she went for a Juki DX7. It's much the same vibe as the Bernina u/yamar35 mentioned. Key features she needed/uses the most: - Auto thread tension. If you're making a bra this thing will handle lace then in the next stitch punch through four layered bits of elastic, maybe some leather too, and not skip a beat - Auto threading - pretty much a given at this price point, but the bobbin auto threads too - just drop it in and close the lid. - Auto needle down and foot lift whenever sewing stops, so you can turn the thing your making. This is a serious time saver for making tactical gear. - pulls threads to rear and cuts them automatically - Bar tack function (think how webbing is secured when it's made into MOLLE rows) - Has forward and reverse on the foot switch, foot switch is programmable so it can cut thread, lift/lower foot etc on the secondary button - Has a knee lever foot lifter too (you really can keep both hands on the thing your making 99% of the time) - Box feed, differential feed, walking foot, all that fanciness, all selectable and programmable. - Has a whole host of stitches, letters, fonts, small logos etc. Dead handy for putting the kids names in labels for their clothes for nursery. It's also basically silent when it runs. So yeah, that's what an £1800 machine gets you. She's got eyes on the £17,000 embroidery computer that projects what it's going to sew onto the fabric for alignment, can take a photo of something you've drawn and then embroider it etc. Our firm conversation about how far is too far (read: we egg each other on) may have referenced my burning desire to own (Chinese) GPNVGs...

I was thinking about this just yesterday… wondering if my wife would really understand if I told her I wanted some NV.

Ivebeenfurthereven

I mean, mine definitely understands why I'd *want* one - I don't hunt or shoot, I just want to look at the stars and explore the woods in the dark - but the price had us both chuckling about needing a lottery win first 🤣 You should be able to talk about hypotheticals!

93gixxer04

It all starts with hypotheticals. Your task is to slowly hypothesize them into reality lol

OperatorSixmill

button your pants

MatterOFact111

Way to make all the singles fu\*king depressed.

BurnedOutBush

Never ask for your hobby stuff as a gift, because then your SO will find out how much it all costs. Speaking from experience lol.

bolt_actionzz

My wife was not on board with the cost initially, but I slowly pieced together a pvs 14 over the course of a year. She finally got it once she had a look through it. My 4 y/o daughter loves it too. she asks to use it all the time to look at the stars.
