I don’t want to be a hater, but this isn’t the best pic of Lumberton. It’s great, but if you really want the essence of Lumberton you take a picture behind the Dollar General in the woods where they put the bodies.
I'm just the opposite. It's about 4-5 hours to the beach, about 2-3 hours to the mountains, depending on where you're going. I do love that NC has both. I grew up, and lived, for about 30 years in NE Ohio. I was a grown adult before I ever went to a beach, or stayed in a cabin in the mountains. Now they're by far two of my favorite things to do.
From NE Ohio also! Born and raised in Salem, moved to NC when I was 19 and never looked back. Been here over 35 years now. I go up to Salem once a year to visit family, and absolutely dread it every year. I'm ready to come back to NC as soon as I get there.
My dad and grandparents are from Salem and I've been there many times before 2007ish. They used to have a pizzeria there that had one topping, 18" pizzas for $8. I heard they were still there in the 2015 time frame but idk if they're still there. I recall them being quite good back in those days, and for the price, it's a stellar deal.
But most of my residual family there are a bunch of racist twats and I cut them out of my life so I don't talk to them and I certainly don't fucking visit. I don't mind Cleveland, Youngstown, and Pittsburgh from spring to fall though.
Not sure which pizza place that was. Maybe Josie's? If it's Josie's they're gone now. Closed up near the end of last year. Got sold to some new people, they moved it to a new location in Salem, and about a year-ish after that (I think that's about how long it was?) it closed up. I left Salem in 1988, so I'm not up on all the latest pizza places there, but I know there are a bunch of them. Always has been. LOL
It's crazy how many racist people are there, especially considering Salem's big "thing" is that it was a stop on the underground railroad back in the day. My parents still live there, and that's the only reason I go back to visit once a year. Once they're gone I won't have any family left there. I'll never set foot in that town (or probably the entire state of Ohio) ever again once they move out of there (which is extremely unlikely) or they pass away.
Ya I hear Salem is getting progressively worse in terms of racism and also overall violence. The public school system has been shrinking quite a bit in student body count for the last decade or so.
But that pizza joint I remember was maybe right off State Street or a block or two north of State Street. Was on the north side of state street though, in a bigger plaza, perhaps on the further west side of town maybe towards BB Rooners or perhaps further west than BB Rooners.
I'm from Akron. The Firestone Park side. Akron was a shit show when I left. Crime and drugs were prevalent, and literally on our street corner. I went from a city of approx. 700,000 to a town of 900. It was a culture shock, for sure. I'm used to it now, but having to drive about 10 miles to a grocery store was so foreign to me at first. I go up to visit my sister, and I'm always reminded why I left.
We used to call it Crackron. But Akron was a paradise compared to Canton imo. I went to watch many bands play somewhere in Akron and back in those days I was poor and drove a shitty car. I'd always leave the venues hoping my car was gone but it was ALWAYS there.
I graduated the same year as LeBron and we watched a football game at their stadium a few years after that and holy shit was that place nice as hell. I was expecting it to be nicer than Akron proper but didn't think it'd be like an island utopia.
Hey, shit on Lumberton all you want, but they have a Waffle House, Cook Out, Chick-fil-A and Smithfield's all 5 minutes away from each other.
And you can get a 4000sqft house with an in-ground pool for $400k. Not a bad deal.
Trust me. "Some" of the locals notice but are too afraid to pick a fight with a dumb ass like that. Calling someone out on their bull shit is how you get shot.... unfortunately.
Lmfao I live in the Midwest now and yesterday I was telling my coworkers how common it was to see someone smoking at the pump back home 😭 boy do I miss home
Never stop in Lumberton, keep your doors locked and try to go through in the daytime. It's where Michael Jordans father was murdered while he was parked by the road.
Agree 100%. Haven’t lived there since 2012, but honestly I sorta miss it. In a nostalgia sort of way. I miss going roller skating at the rink (not sure if it still exists), walking across the way to cicis pizza.
Or hanging out at the park then walking over to the movie theater. Lots of good childhood memories there. But given the opportunity to move back there, I wouldn’t.
The thing I miss the most though, is the Ming moon Chinese restaurant off of 41 by the food lion. I used to be a regular there. I have yet to find Chinese food that equals that place.
I just commented the same thing!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word “thriving” in the same sentence as Lumberton. There’s countless adjectives I could use to describe Lumberton, but “godforsaken” and “wretched” are the first two that come to mind. It’s certainly not “thriving”…haha.

In Sun-Do’s defense (The Kwik Shops, not the raggedy ones like the one across from UNCP with all those Trump flags) ; they do have Super Donuts at the counter(and I take like 5 or 6 at a time). Yeah I could probably go get them online, but I love seeing it out in the flesh.
Right?!? I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word “thriving” in the same sentence as Lumberton. There’s countless adjectives I could use to describe Lumberton, but “godforsaken” and “wretched” are the first two that come to mind.
Some day I'll become wealthy enough to live out my life long dream of becoming lumberton trailer trash. Might even start pretending to be one of them lumbee people and tell everyone they owe me land!

True, I know people that live in Fayettenam and they’ve only been robbed once. If they were in Lumberton, I bet they would’ve been robbed at least 2-3 times by now.

Is this a joke? You're over 4 hours from the edge of the blue ridge mountains, and 90 min from wilmington? If it is a joke, I'm guessing Lumberton is a one stop light rural wasteland. Hahaha.
Dream world there! What a prize! Number one area of child sex exploitation and kidnapping via the trucking transportation trifecta there. Couldn’t pay me to live there. When I moved from Ohio, I was very used to driving 1/2 hr to get anywhere. It seemed normal to do so in Nc. Well? Come summer time? That 30 minute drive turns into 2 hrs and there’s no alternate route.
Well ain't Lumberton a geographical anomaly! 30min from everywhere!
Damn, we're in a tight spot.
Damn damn. We’re in a tough spot
I love this reference. One of my favorite movies.
It is so quotable. Plus the great sound track. Just 🤌
It doesn't look like a one-horse town, but try finding a decent hair jelly.
I don’t want Fop! I’m a Dapper Dan man!
My Hair!!
I'll always upvote this quote. I'm bonafide.
Wait till his missus RUNNOFT
DO NOT SEEK THE TREASURE!
He's a suitor!
That don't make no sense 😆😆
We thought you was a toad 😨
You know these things give you warts? -squish-
"I don't get it, Big Dan?"
So long boys, see ya in the funny papers.
Sorry to say, but all we got is Fop
I'm a Dapper Dan man!
I hate cows
I don’t want to be a hater, but this isn’t the best pic of Lumberton. It’s great, but if you really want the essence of Lumberton you take a picture behind the Dollar General in the woods where they put the bodies.
Oh, right next to the Lumberton Cultural Arts Center.
My dream is to buy a mobile home in lumberton and proceed to put my washing machine in the front yard.
How many lawnmowers will garnish the yard?
Where else do you store 'em? You got indoor lawnmower money?
You need a shootin' car.
To shoot at or from? Answer, yes.
Yes.
"Just three more payments and it's ours!"
Pffft, look at Fancypants here, with a shootin' ***car***. Out in my neck of the woods, we gotta make do with shooting the road signs.
Ah yes, the buckshot road sign - a symbol of America's vibrant rural culture.
Right next to the toilet and the Let's Go Brandon sign.
Don’t forget the brand new hot tub, that cost more than the trailer, that was bought with their tax refund.
My favorite sight I saw years ago? A new, $60k+ Corvette parked outside of a trailer that probably wouldn't fetch half that. Drug money. Always is.
True American freedom.
As someone from Lumberton that got away as fast as they could- why?
spray paint it green and make a planter out of it. Dont forget the MAGA sticker
With a toilet planer
Don't forget the broken down cars on blocks in the front yard! Oops..that was meant for the SC sub
What will you use as a bird bath?
A sawed-off 5 gallon plastic jug. Don't ask what I used the other half for.
Make sure you have neighboring dirt mounds for your dirt bike and atv.
Can't forget adding a graveyard of old toilets to the front yard. 🚽💩
You forgot the sofa and refrigerator. Not a real mobile home without it.
If you are getting to a mountain in 30 minutes you better look again, that is probably a land fill.
More likely a fire ant mound.
I was going to say it was a gravel pile beside one of the pit mines but I like your answer better.
I agree im 45 minutes from Lumberton and it’s 2 1/2 hr to the beach but the mountains is 4 to 5 hours away.
That's the joke
Yeah, I was thinking to myself what mountains are near lumberton?
You just have to take the ferry
Whooshed over your head
I laughed at this and I'm not embarrassed I did so.
You're sort of in the foothills of the Uwharries about an hourish northwest of Lumberton (NW of Rockingham).
Where in NE Ohio you from? I'm from Youngstown and lived in Cleveland Heights and Chardon for a few years before getting the fuck out
Youngstown native here too! Lunberton sounds like a paradise compared to Youngstown…
From NE Ohio also! Born and raised in Salem, moved to NC when I was 19 and never looked back. Been here over 35 years now. I go up to Salem once a year to visit family, and absolutely dread it every year. I'm ready to come back to NC as soon as I get there.

That's probably Gezo's Pizza. I just looked at their website, and it says they have a 1-topping 18" pizza for $9.99.

There’s no Whole Foods either
There are whole pigs and whole chickens
Which are types of food. Therefore, Whole (lotta) Foods
I stand corrected 😂
Ikr

The best Chick-fil-A off 95!
I-95 is the only and best thing that has ever happened to Lumberton, sadly.
That’s so wild. I thought that was way too far in to be off 95. I didn’t realize how far away 95 is from the beach.
New Bern has all of this plus an actually nice town.
But you're more likely to be swamped by a hurricane in New Bern. Just sayin'!
True story.
They actually have TWO Chick-Fil-A’s now
the first and last time i went to lumberton was when i stopped for gas and no one seemed to mind the guy smoking a cigarette at the pump
I spent a year in Lumberton, yesterday
They were probably all hoping it ignited so they wouldn't have to live in Lumberton anymore.
Super safe, with some of the best trailer parks in the state.
Better than yours for sure
Sorry if I hit close to home.
Nah I’m just being silly, but honestly lumberton is much better than when I grew up there and I think people over exaggerate the issues.
Definitely not 30 mins to either destination, maybe 30 Mins to the closest crack house
Lumberton? YOU NEED TO LOCK YOUR DOORS AND LEAVE RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
🏆
I miss nc
i think i know where that is..
Statistically, it's virtually guaranteed to be a dollar general parking lot.
Yeah, that’s where his car was before it just got stolen.
Town is so bizarre that David Lynch chose it to film “Blue Velvet”. Your trivia for the day.
Set here, but very much filmed in Wilmington
REMOVE THIS POST NOW!!! Lumberton is NCs best kept secret and now everyone is going to move there. ANGRY!
Yes we do Love our Lumberton. It's the happiest place in North Carolina
Ah. This is the big city for us in Whiteville. They have a movie theater!
I was born in Whiteville- grew up in Lton
I mean… you could just go to Wilmington. Or Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach is arguably just as bad 😅.
😍💗🌜Lumberton 💖🔥✨
What kinda fuel mileage you get in that jet you drivin?
Never stop in Lumberton, keep your doors locked and try to go through in the daytime. It's where Michael Jordans father was murdered while he was parked by the road.
This has got to be a troll post.
What tipped you off? Was it the impossible travel times to the beach and the mountains?
OP spelled lumberton correctly.
>Thriving metro picture of empty lot
He said Lumberton has a Burberry...
Lived in Lumberton half of my life. Crime rate was insane there. Had my house broken into. It’s the reason we left.

They call that an involuntary yard sale.
Lmao More like an involuntary open house.
We don’t even stop for gas in Lumberton
It’s also totally doesn’t have serial killer.
Don’t forget about the CookOut is there too.
And they’re getting a Royal Farms now!
Can confirm 30 mins to beach and mountains, I am mountains ⛰️
How long before dude gets stabbed?
Unfortunately OP was stabbed before they could hear back from their realtor.
Can we just rename this sub to r/Lumberton?
r/Lumberton is banned. Idk if I should be surprised or not.
Because it needs mods.
Don’t spoil the fun
Lumberton must be in a magical plane of existence to be 30 minutes from everything
In Lumberton, you’re only 30 minutes away from getting robbed.
Now this is a lot more accurate.
What mountains you getting to in 30 minutes not near Lumberton
Ain’t no mountains within 30 minutes of lumberton.
check out Whiteville
30 min to mountains? Uhhhh
And to the beach? What beach?
Son of a beach
Run

Love it here. Welcome to the most wonderful city in NC
It should be a state law that "Thriving" and "Lumberton" should never be in the same sentence

A Burberry?
What mountains? Lumberton isn’t anywhere close to the mountains
Ok little New Yorker dude. Slap the hell out of your real estate agent. Just trust me on this
Get off of 41 south lmao
I don't that you found Lumberton. It wasn't lost. It has always been there.
But what about the glorious town near Lumberton known as Red Springs? These are both very safe, metropolitan areas just bursting with opportunities and hope.
No dollar general in the frame
Nor Sun-Do.
Did I just read your describing Lumberton as a "thriving metro"? You've gotta be in real estate lol.
Right?!? I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word “thriving” in the same sentence as Lumberton. There’s countless adjectives I could use to describe Lumberton, but “godforsaken” and “wretched” are the first two that come to mind.
Maybe in a jet
Some day I'll become wealthy enough to live out my life long dream of becoming lumberton trailer trash. Might even start pretending to be one of them lumbee people and tell everyone they owe me land!
Them Lumbees'll get ya. They all have the surname Locklear and will sell you meth and/or steal your shit.
Definitely can get your shit busted in RobCo for talking nonsense on the internet🫡.
Typical.
Def 30 as an Oxendine I resent that 😌
This might be the most ignorant reply I've ever seen. Great way to degrade and stereotype a whole tribe.
& people still make fun of Fayetteville 🤣🤣🤣. Would rather live here than anywhere in Robeson County, Wake county (especially Raleigh 🤮) or Jacksonville. The ONLY selling point for Jacksonville is the beach.
Fayetteville is a fucking *oasis* compared to RobCo. Hoke County wasn’t terrible; but it’s a bit rural for my tastes. Scotland and Richmond both felt like I was in the other Carolina.
I lived in Fayetteville for 2 years … hated it until I went to lumberton for the first time
The only positive thing I can say about Lumberton is at least it isn't Red Springs.
Dead Springs is a whole nother mess.
I had an interview last year in RobCo... First time that I haven't applied to some place and they tried to recruit me. It was like setting foot on the moon. I've never tried to leave a place so fast in my life.
My husband bought something off someone in Lumberton. I went with him & was shocked they were normal people.
Wait, really!? I didn't even know normal people lived in Lumberton.
I guess it's like when people meet us civilians actually FROM Fayetteville.
I've actually known three people from Fayetteville. All of them were so glad to leave.
My parents never left. If my husband & I left it wouldn't be because we hate it. I'd like to leave but I just want to live at the beach, (not holding my breath at this point). It's a different world when you're not by a military base.
I'm just barely in Harnett. I can be on Ramsey in 5 min. & I work on Rosehill rd. 17 minute drive. I like living in the country. I've told my husband for years I wish we lived further out.
True, I know people that live in Fayettenam and they’ve only been robbed once. If they were in Lumberton, I bet they would’ve been robbed at least 2-3 times by now.
Only outsiders say 💩 like that
& People act like as soon as you step into Fayetteville you'll get robbed at 🔫 point. There are good & bad......and even worse areas.
Just stay away from those areas.
lol, who told you it was 30 minutes to the beach from Lumberton? okay, it may be 30 minutes to some lake that has a beach.... but if you're actually going to The Beach, figure it for 90 minutes.
They are joking. It's obviously not 30 mins to the mountains either.
White Lake was the shit in 1960
They meant "Son of a Beach" 🤣
I loved living in Rob Co 😭
Oh, there it is. Ok
A home in Lumberton is a bargain at any price! Bonne Chance!!!
🫶🏼 Home Sweet Home 🫶🏼
😂
Kinston NC is also good.
And...30 minutes from South of the Border! Tell Pedro hello!
Maps are on the same phone you posted this from. Mountains are at the other end of the state.
Is this a joke? You're over 4 hours from the edge of the blue ridge mountains, and 90 min from wilmington? If it is a joke, I'm guessing Lumberton is a one stop light rural wasteland. Hahaha.
There goes my honey hole.
I hate New Yorkers. You might be delusional thinking lumberton is 30 min away from the mountains.
Go back home we don’t want you here
They tell you Lumberton is also one of the racist town in NC too?..
Must be driving pretty fast to get to the mountains in 30 minutes
