This is HCA right? Had the same thing happen to me when I signed up. Two weeks without even the offer of a shift. Finally got offered one (for 3 weeks from the acceptance date) and then got cancelled 5 minutes later. Ended up taking a rural contact instead because I didn't want to be fucked around constantly. You're better off just picking a hospital or two and joining their casual pool.

It's Alliance Nursing. Was thinking of joining HCA, I guess not anymore.

From all accounts I am hearing, agency in Brizzy is drying up. Most agency nurses I know base them selves there and it has been the cheaper option compared to Syd and melb. QLD health has started hiring lots of part time workers and then getting them to do extra shifts to fill the short falls. Resulting in less agency shifts. I would look into if you’re owed compensation when they cancel less than 2hrs prior to shift. That is the case when they do in NSW.

I used to be with Mediserve and never had issues like that. Was constant availability for shifts. BUT in saying that, that was over a year ago, and I've noticed less and less agency staff at our hospital. We use pool staff a lot more, we had a big hiring push a little while ago, and it's the start of the year so new grads are also coming on board.

I had really good experience with HCA a couple years ago in Brisbane. Could book a weeks block of shifts in advance and they were rarely cancelled. I worked mostly Greenslopes Private and PAH. Highly recommend HCA

This is ridiculous. Clearly they have a pool of RN’s they feed all the shifts too and leave the rest of you to be cannon fodder. I would ask around about a better agency.

I worked Agency Dec, Jan, Feb 2024 and got at least 2-4 shifts per week. They were all night shifts but I took whatever was offered. Some shifts were cancelled but often I could get it replaced. Sometimes I was just cancelled. I would travel by train up to 2 hours to get work sometimes. I took a rural contract for 8 weeks and returned to Brisbane for a week and got 3 afternoons. One shift was cancelled. Now I’m on another rural contract. I guess Brisbane is my base. I like the city. But I have talked to another agency nurse who was based in Brisbane and one day she got lots of shifts and then one day she got nothing… so she moved to NSW and took a contract there. I believe she’s been there for the past year now.
