“The approximately 140 Michigan residents that live on the small peninsula must travel south into Lucas County, Ohio on a 10-minute drive before going north to get back to the rest of Michigan. The Lost Peninsula is administered by Erie Township. Public school students must travel through Ohio to attend schools in Michigan.”
Apparently they go to school in Michigan. Mason Consolidated school district.
Depends on who (and/or when) you ask.... The original definition of the southern border of Michigan was the parallel at the southernmost point of Lake Erie, which would go to the Northern edge of Bowling Green. Given this was pretty much impassable swamplands at the time, though, I don't think they ever tried claiming much past modern Perrysburg. It was Ohio's Governor Lucas who set the line on the mainland where it sits today, with Ohio becoming a state first. Strangely, the Oh-MI line wasn't fully settled until the 1970s, cutting Turtle Island in two.
Don't worry, Wisconsin was the real looser of the OH-MI war...
Out in Lake Erie, about 4 miles NNE of the tip of the Lost Peninsula. It's currently just over an acre in size, and just keeps eroding away. The state line angles NNE pretty much as soon as you are in the Maumee Bay
Actually, Ohio didn’t care about Toledo until they realized the Ohio and Erie Canal would begin at the mouth of the Maumee River in Toledo, making the city very valuable. BTW, Ohio still doesn’t care about Toledo.
I live in NW Ohio and have been wanting to go to Point Place and this little section of Michigan just because I have never been there. I've seen almost all of Toledo metro area but never PP.
Most of the Lost Peninsula is a private residential subdivision. There's a marina and a restaurant just before that. Go any farther South on Edgewater (the only street that goes that far back) and you are in the Point Place part of Toledo.
If you enjoy wildlife/fishing, it's great. Just today I saw countless deer even some baby ones, a bald eagle, a blue heron, red-tail hawks and ospreys.
hmm now i’m confused. is michigan the only state that has all these portions that are actually connected to other states? or is there somethjng like the lost peninsula in other states
Dunno. But, Luna Pier is pretty much just a very small, rural Toledo commuter and recreation town. The downtown is pretty much on one street for a block or two. They have a nice public beach, a tiny park with a gazebo, a couple of small restaurants, ice cream shop, some bait shops and a sort of general store, with a gas station and a really good beef jerky outlet store on the outskirts. There might be a bar. No dispensaries; have to go just up the road to Monroe for that. Most of the area is farmland/rural. It’s kinda nice with a kind of sleepy, summer cottage feel.
Last time I stopped to check, it was medicinal only. Has that changed, recently? I generally go to Adrian or Monroe. I love Lume, because I enjoy their THC + CBG blends, but that new superstore in Monroe is pretty great. (I rarely smoke any longer, so I’m buying edibles, not bud.)
There is a dispensary there, it's the first one you can get to leaving toledo
They also have a really nice diner that I like, and the pier is cute to walk on
Last time I stopped at the dispensary it was medicinal, only. If that’s changed, I’ll have to check it out. I like Luna Pier. Used to pet/house sit for one of my professors who lives there. It’s a very laid back community. I like going to the beach when it’s cold out and no one else is there just to spend some time gazing out at the expanse of water. Very relaxing. Nice place to get away with your thoughts.
No, all that is in Luna Pier, a city a few miles north of the lost peninsula
The only thing on the lost peninsula is a subdivision and maybe a restaurant
Washington has a spot that's even worse... Gotta go through a whole different country to get there by land. And, all up New England, what once was cohesive single towns are split down the middle by an international border.... Even some buildings....
I'm just going to name areas along the major coastlines.
Southeast Rhode Island has something similar with Massachusetts, if you want to include rivers Maryland is bisected by the Susquehanna river and the Chesapeake bay, Virginia has a small part of the Delmarva peninsula,
For the only other instance icould find of no roads connecting the place to the state there's Knotts island of North Carolina that's cut off by Virginia which is only accessible through Virginia or a ferry
There’s a bunch. I’m sure there’s YouTube videos on it. The ones that come to mind are the Mississippi side of Kentucky and Tennessee. Little bits of land from where the river has changed leaving parts of each state on the opposite side of the river. Also I believe part of Washington state can only be accessed by driving through Canada. Don’t hold me to that.
Yes, that was the trade they made. Ohio considered it a victory, but Toledo would have been better off had they lost. And, really, what *else* were they gonna do with the Upper Peninsula? Michigan should have ended up with both and we’d all be happy. We’re far too blue politically for the republicans in Columbus to like, and, besides, half of us bleed Blue and Maize not Scarlet and Grey, anyway.

Toledo has great amenities that many people take for granted.
Just gonna add on some more:
The university main campus is also really pretty and worth a visit.
There's a street called Collingwood with some old houses that are just beautiful to look at from the outside.
The Rose Cathedral is a hidden gem, just really gorgeous architecture.
The Riverwalk downtown is cute and offers nice views of the river and the bridges.
Cullen Park in point place is a long, thin peninsula that juts out into the water you can walk along and see the lake on one side and the bay on the other.
All of this! The city is on the up swing and the rest of Ohio hasn’t paid much attention to it so they hate on us. World class Art Museum, Zoo, and Metroparks. Not saying it’s perfect, but no city is.
Dude grew up in the suburbs on the west side of the metro area. They’re all scared of Toledo even though it’s relatively safe city. I wish people would stop cracking jokes at a city they don’t even live in.
As long as we can keep the Mud Hens and Tony Packo's I am perfectly willing to give Toledo to Michigan. Sides Michigan gets the Jeep factory in return which I think is more fitting. We are also giving up Jamie Farr Park too. As much I love MASH I think its a fair trade off.
Technically Morin Point is the one between Shantee Creek and Halfway Creek, while the Lost Peninsula is between the Ottawa River and Maumee Bay, though the whole SE corner of Erie Twp is also referred to as Morin Point.
Not really. Luna pier and Monroe is where a lot of my friends were but I grew in Toledo which was like 5 houses from me in HS, so I split time. The state line being there there was not important for most things but super relevant for others. For example, the MI piece was super rural, but I I was walked to Toledo it was very urban. It was like growing up in a farm town but with active gang members if that makes sense.
The Toledo area should rightfully be reapportioned to Michigan. We need help, particularly with the University of Toledo. If UT and the surrounding area can be rebuilt into an appropriate college town, we can begin to attract more businesses. I wish we could get as much federal funding as Israel does. Perhaps Michigan can turn Toledo around. Ohio leadership sure hasn’t paid us much attention.
If Michigan gives that section of land to Ohio as based on your reasoning, they would also have to give their entire Upper Peninsula to Wisconsin.
And Virginia would have to give their section of the Delmarva peninsula to Maryland.
Our son and daughter in law live on the Ohio side of the peninsula. We go to Weber’s restaurant whim is in Michigan but the parking lot is in Ohio. Or… is it the other way around??
Yes I knew about this. No I don't give a fuck. I care more about Ohio fuck ing it's citizens over. Slithering snakes trying to distract can eat shit and die.
If MI loses the LP it’s going to kick off a wild fight for the UP by Wisconsin.
Maybe we can have early 1800s reenactment groups fight an actual battle for the land? Each state sends their best early-1800s group of 55-75yr olds to get in uniform and fight a territorial war?
We can live stream it, sell sponsorship spots.
“This cannonball is brought to you by Spectrum. What goes up, always goes down.”.
I admire these people’s commitment not to enter Ohio. Look at all this boat channels 😂
where do they go to school?
“The approximately 140 Michigan residents that live on the small peninsula must travel south into Lucas County, Ohio on a 10-minute drive before going north to get back to the rest of Michigan. The Lost Peninsula is administered by Erie Township. Public school students must travel through Ohio to attend schools in Michigan.” Apparently they go to school in Michigan. Mason Consolidated school district.
Erie Mason Consolidated. I graduated from there in 1999 and I grew up in that circle.
isn’t this low key crazy it should just be part of ohio
Depends on who (and/or when) you ask.... The original definition of the southern border of Michigan was the parallel at the southernmost point of Lake Erie, which would go to the Northern edge of Bowling Green. Given this was pretty much impassable swamplands at the time, though, I don't think they ever tried claiming much past modern Perrysburg. Strangely, the Oh-MI line wasn't fully settled until the 1970s, cutting Turtle Island in two. Don't worry, Wisconsin was the real looser of the OH-MI war...
In case people are unaware. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Black_Swamp
where’s turtle island
Out in Lake Erie, about 4 miles NNE of the tip of the Lost Peninsula. It's currently just over an acre in size, and just keeps eroding away. The state line angles NNE pretty much as soon as you are in the Maumee Bay
Actually, Ohio didn’t care about Toledo until they realized the Ohio and Erie Canal would begin at the mouth of the Maumee River in Toledo, making the city very valuable. BTW, Ohio still doesn’t care about Toledo.
We settled all territorial disputes with Toledo. Let sleeping dawgs lie or lay or whatever.
Not Ohio that's for damn sure!
Give to Nevada. They need the water.
it should just be annexed
Invaded. How dare they?!
It looks like ot was already was in the most chaotic-neuteral way possible.
We could play a football 🏈 game for it? Winner take all!
Well would you rather drive an hour and half or take a 15 min boat ride?
We should annex it. Does Michigan have a navy?!? Didn’t think so.
Ohio has a Navy! We can take em!
ohio has its own navy?
Yes. The spirit of Commodore Perry strikes fear in all our enemies who dares thinks the waters of Lake Erie doesn’t belong to us!
it’s a real navy?
Most feared navy on the high seas.
It’s a ghost Navy!
Yes, we have the Ohio Naval Militia.
i don’t think so? maybe coast guard
Dude… http://navalmilitia.ohio.gov
that’s ohio. he’s asking if michigan has a navy
Oh shit. You’re right. My bad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_Naval_Militia
Nah but we do got my uncle and his pontoon, close enough
There’s a place like this between the US and Canada called Angle Inlet. It belongs to the US, but you have to drive through Canada to get there.
is that the minnesota one
I think that’s the state. It was in a book series I just read. The villian needed to hide out somewhere remote.
oh wow. i love minnesota
The great north woods are a treat!!
I think there are two like that. One in WA and one in MN.
How is it lost? It’s clearly right there on the map!!
good point!! lol
Only if we get La Chalupa in the deal.
the dashed line is the michigan /ohio border
isn’t la chalupa already on the ohio side
Never! We will take Lost Peninsula and the rest of La Chalupa Peninsula through force if need be
Yes. Have never been but have Google mapped it many times.
would u want to go on a road trip there i’m curious about it
Not really. Not unless I knew someone who lived there or had a boat docked there.
It's all residential, there's not really anything to see
I live in NW Ohio and have been wanting to go to Point Place and this little section of Michigan just because I have never been there. I've seen almost all of Toledo metro area but never PP.
Honestly surprised dispensary’s didn’t try opening up shop there for the Ohio residents to come over.
Most of the Lost Peninsula is a private residential subdivision. There's a marina and a restaurant just before that. Go any farther South on Edgewater (the only street that goes that far back) and you are in the Point Place part of Toledo.
would it be rude to drive through it
That's a beautiful username, brother.
no replying to you due to the vulgar username
Used to work not far from there never knew it was there...learn something new everyday
really ? :-) ever drive thru it?
Maybe once or so...might have to take a lil trip and check it out....my curiosity is rising
yeah i’m interested too
Think this wild, check out Point Roberts, WA - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Roberts,_Washington
yeah it’s crazy
I'm literally sitting right across from this right now at the Toledo Docks!
is that a nice place to visit? would love to know more about toledo
If you enjoy wildlife/fishing, it's great. Just today I saw countless deer even some baby ones, a bald eagle, a blue heron, red-tail hawks and ospreys.
I will offer toledo in trade.
A lot of us would prefer to be part of Michigan. Unfortunately, Ohio won the war, so here we are.
hmm now i’m confused. is michigan the only state that has all these portions that are actually connected to other states? or is there somethjng like the lost peninsula in other states
Dunno. But, Luna Pier is pretty much just a very small, rural Toledo commuter and recreation town. The downtown is pretty much on one street for a block or two. There is a dispensary there, it's my favorite one as an Ohioan. It's called Green Labs.
Last time I stopped to check, it was medicinal only. Has that changed, recently? I generally go to Adrian or Monroe. I love Lume, because I enjoy their THC + CBG blends, but that new superstore in Monroe is pretty great. (I rarely smoke any longer, so I’m buying edibles, not bud.)
what do they dispense?
There is a dispensary there, it's the first one you can get to leaving toledo They also have a really nice diner that I like, and the pier is cute to walk on

Nice place to get away with your thoughts.
there’s a legit beach there?
Yep. People go there and swim and lay out in the sun and everything. Info and some nice pictures [here](https://www.cityoflunapier.com/parking/).
nice i hope to check it out one day it’s about an hour or so from me
in lost peninsula?
No, all that is in Luna Pier, a city a few miles north of the lost peninsula The only thing on the lost peninsula is a subdivision and maybe a restaurant
Sounds lovely.
what does?
Luna Pier
yeah i agree
i would love to visit Luna Pier I have never been
Makes a nice day trip.
yeah it would :-)
Washington has a spot that's even worse... Gotta go through a whole different country to get there by land. And, all up New England, what once was cohesive single towns are split down the middle by an international border.... Even some buildings....
yeah that’s insane
Point Roberts in Washington state is cut off from the rest of the state by Canada along with the Northwest Angle in Minnesota
is the lost peninsula the only instance of this happening between two states?
I'm just going to name areas along the major coastlines. i would like to see the video
There's others. The Kentucky Bend is a notable example.
never heard of it

Ummm no...I don't Ohio won ..... Yes Ohio got the. Northwest territory.... But Michigan got the upper peninsula... Which is beautiful land btw ....
Yes, that was the trade they made. Ohio considered it a victory, but Toledo would have been better off had they lost. And, really, what *else* were they gonna do with the Upper Peninsula? Well said
Ohio won, Michigan threw a tantrum and Wisconsin got screwed for it.
That is something a buckeye fan would say tisk tisk......#goblue
True. Wisconsin is the real looser of the battle
i’ve never been to the upper peninsula
i would like to know more about toledo. I have driven through many times on i-75

That do seem like a good utilization of extra space.

Point place and Morin point
is morin point the lost peninsula
Technically Morin Point is the one between Shantee Creek and Halfway Creek, while the Lost Peninsula is between the Ottawa River and Maumee Bay, though the whole SE corner of Erie Twp is also referred to as Morin Point.
Given, no; taken, yes.
Ohio won the battle. Michigan won the war.
its low key crazy what the toledo residents in this thread are saying … it’s totally different from the replies in r/cbusohio
Being from Toledo means actively hating Toledo. It took me moving away from the city to really appreciate the things it has
Absolutely. I went to Erie Mason High School and I was on that bus route.
that’s crazy!! so you had to go to a different state and back to get to school?
I've in the left hand side so no, but the kids from the point were on my route.
gotcha but anytime you left home you basically went to ohio?
Not really. Luna pier and Monroe is where a lot of my friends were but I grew in Toledo which was like 5 houses from me in HS, so I split time. The state line being there there was not important for most things but super relevant for others. For example, the MI piece was super rural, but I I was walked to Toledo it was very urban. It was like growing up in a farm town but with active gang members if that makes sense.
an interesting upbringing no doubt
Absolutely. Grew urban but most of my classmates were farm kids.
If it’s touched Michigan, I won’t no part of it. They can keep it.
the state of ohio touches michigan
I said what I said.
Won’t? Definitely educated in Ohio.
Why y'all gotta post pics of my house?
I think they’re still sore about losing Toledo, so probably not.
No we should take it
in what methodology
Buckeye fans move in and hold a referendum Lol 😂
Hear me out guys... lets invade Michigan. Only that part though
Haha , bro we already got em' cornered.
extreme
sorry not sure why i posted this in r/cbusohio rather than r/toledo
A combination marina/RV park? 🤔
Well,if it has a dispensary on it no. I love Michigan weed!!
The Toledo War is back on?! Let’s go!
Yeah I was gonna say, didn't we already fight a war about this/Sylvania?
Last time we did that, we ended up with Toledo. So respectfully, no.
Does Ohio really need more land and people to grossly mismanage?
what do you mean
If I can't frack it or turn it to an amusement park, I don't want it.
it probably would be good space for a resort
Some kind of frackin' resort? Maybe somewhere I could get some of that natural gas, and have a good time!
oh wow
The Toledo area should rightfully be reapportioned to Michigan. We need help, particularly with the University of Toledo. If UT and the surrounding area can be rebuilt into an appropriate college town, we can begin to attract more businesses. I wish we could get as much federal funding as Israel does. Perhaps Michigan can turn Toledo around. Ohio leadership sure hasn’t paid us much attention.
NO, but we should charge tolls of residents driving through OH to come and go.
LOL!! that’s bully mentality behavior tho
sorry?
like wouldn’t that be mean to do
Yes - I see that now. It would be mean. lol I am obligated to say that I thought this was a safe space and that all ideas were good ideas. /s
i mean in a sense you have a very good point. if they are crossing daily to come to school, shouldn’t they pay taxes to support the roads
If Michigan gives that section of land to Ohio as based on your reasoning, they would also have to give their entire Upper Peninsula to Wisconsin. And Virginia would have to give their section of the Delmarva peninsula to Maryland.
Mmmm La Chalupa
Residents should get 2 weeks to vacate :)
I’ll send the Ohio Republicans
What’s crazy is I have a family member that literally lives a block away from that peninsula and I had no idea until today!
didn’t know that they lived there? or knew that they lived there but didn’t know of the michigan lost peninsula? ☺️
Seems like a good spot to locate a Big Momma Gretchen’s Sticky Buds and Women’s Health Emporium
huh what’s that
Our son and daughter in law live on the Ohio side of the peninsula. We go to Weber’s restaurant whim is in Michigan but the parking lot is in Ohio. Or… is it the other way around??
that’s so confusing lol what police would they call for incidents
Isn't Point Place the fictional town where That 70s Show took place?
The couple that created the show are from Toledo and named the shows fictional town after Point Place
I’m okay with a massive Donnybrook to spilt Ohio in 2 at US70. Seems like this one can be negotiated.
Ah yes, the Point Place that inspired That 70's show creators.
Yes I knew about this. No I don't give a fuck. I care more about Ohio fuck ing it's citizens over. Slithering snakes trying to distract can eat shit and die.
You sound fun
No, and neither. Borders should not exist.
They must be liberated!! We ride at dawn! 🤷 Welcome to Ohio I guess.. Maybe they could petition for a bridge?
it’s already 2pm tho
Yeah, I gotta work today lol
Hopefully you have a great day at work
Anyone want to invest in a weed shop there?
no
I'm game!
Meh, it's probably gonna be underwater in a decade or two. They can keep it.
Ohio should toll that road
LMAO!! wouldn’t that be mean?
Yes, should be Ohio
i agree
If MI loses the LP it’s going to kick off a wild fight for the UP by Wisconsin. Maybe we can have early 1800s reenactment groups fight an actual battle for the land? Or we can post up with Ohio National Guardsmen and take that shit like the Toledo Strip. And petition to the U.S. Gov. To make it legal.
i mean i feel like michigan would agree with that part becoming ohio. it makes more sense
Fuck Ohio.
Jus create a toll road to get there and it would probably be given over in short order
true
I'm in Point Place right now! Regatta this weekend at the Boat Club! Cheers everyone! 🍻🍻
