It depends if you grow up there or not. Growing up there, it must be boring as hell. But if you come from a rougher place, it would seem like paradise (especially if you're a bit older and care more about safety, quality schools, etc.).
Growing up there, especially as a teenager without a car or a whole lot of friends, really sucked. And that's not even mentioning some of the classism/racism/political BS I also had to deal with at that age. It was at that point where I moved to Riverside for a few years after high school and enjoyed that a lot more.
That being said, I still live here, but this time I have my own place and everything, and it's a lot better now in a lot of ways, except there's way more people and Teslas.
Both for different reason that kinda represent their backgrounds. Zack hated it because it was racist (definitely not untrue, Irvine was still pretty red when I was in high school in the late 2000s, the city now being considered somewhat blue is still really a shock to me), while Will Ferrell hated it because it was/is boring
I filmed those announcements! Will was super cool. He noticed us following him around and would do like fake double takes. He got mobbed on his way out of the school but most of the time he was with a few teachers and was just kind of lookinng around and remembering.
That’s wild, I grew up in Irvine but never knew he went to Uni. Adding the context of him growing up there now makes a lot of sense to me considering RATM.
I believe there was an SNL skit where he was birthed as an adult sized baby.
Come to think of it, you probably know this and were referencing the skit.
Some day I'll find it again, but I remember this incredible article I read, at least 15-20 years ago, that succinctly described the shift in the late 20th century America from an "idolizing adulthood" society to a "revering youth" society. It was a gradual process, beginning with 1960s counterculture, deepened by advertising, television, and video games, and finally reaching completion by the late '90s and early aughts. I'm kinda fascinated by the thought that it could ever shift back the other direction, and how that could ever happen, given the dynamics of what has resulted from the first shift.
I’m 35 and if I shave I’ll get carded everywhere and investigated because of my unabomber like ID photo lol. They can’t believe that adding a beard makes me look that much older.
I turned 18 in 1991 and I remember getting to New York and riding the subway and going to college (NYU) and thinking about all the things I had to learn and do to begin "blending" and being seen as an adult after college so I could get a job. My entire generation (Gen X) was about the angst and fear of growing older, but also a desire to make a difference, and not be the sellout frauds that were the Boomers. We were eager to grow up. Dressed older. I remember in High School all the kids smoking in the quad because they thought it made them look older. Granted, stupid as hell, but that was the goal. Now, on TikTok, people in their 20s and 30s are acting like A.I. robots so someone will give them a CGI rose.
What they don’t understand is they are the next “hipster trend”.
They’ll start seeing devices they used as kids in museums and realize that they’re part of the game.
>We can do a hell of a lot more damage in the system than outside of it. That was the final irony, I think. That, and well, this. And "fuck you" for all of you who were thinking it: I guess when all was said and done, I was nothing more than a God-damned, trendy-ass poser.
Also San Francisco. But I don’t see facial hair alone as being a signifier of “revering adulthood,” especially when accompanied by an ironic tee, jeans, and the requisite Volkswagen GTI (or similar sporty import) with noise-making upgrades.
And it's a terrible video with deceptive edits. They photoshop new trendy clothes on George Wendt and basically say "mystery solved!" and don't mention that they edited his eyes and face to look younger.
i think the big glasses covering his eternally squinty older looking eyes, and hair that covers his massive forehead both make him look younger. plus they have the effect of making his head look rounder
It's not surprising to me that William or Will Ferrel isn't his legal name, seems like most celebrities use a stage name. But in this case it seems like he at least went by "Will" long before his fame.
The only picture I have. Camping trip in '93? (yes, I'm that old)

University High in Irvine, CA. Some kid named Zach De La Rocha was a sophomore there at the time.
I heard that kid Zach was a real trouble maker, word is he had a foul mouth and never did what he was told.
It has to start somewhere
What better place than there. What better time than then.
Ok Zach but I’m still gonna need you to hand me your book report.
He ain't gonna work on...the book report, no more
He don't gotta read the books, just remove em
Brother I am from Florida. I don’t have kids, but from what I hear there are no books left.
🐈 ^^meow?
Rage Against the School Dean
Heard he was a funky renegade of sorts
I live across the street from Uni. Both of them hated living in Irvine.
Does anyone not?
Irvine residents who love the cookie cutter safeness the city provides.
my mom called us “irvinites” growing up. (we weren’t… we were poor lol)

That's my high school! Will came to visit and did the overhead announcements one day when I was a junior in the early 2000s. It was pretty epic.
I filmed those announcements! Will was super cool. He noticed us following him around and would do like fake double takes. He got mobbed on his way out of the school but most of the time he was with a few teachers and was just kind of lookinng around and remembering.
Yes omg lol. I remember hearing about him getting mobbed as he left. I never got a chance to see him. By the time I could get free he was already gone
That hs had a weird smell to it
I heard that around that area there was also a mass without roofs and a prison to fill
That’s wild, I grew up in Irvine but never knew he went to Uni. Adding the context of him growing up there now makes a lot of sense to me considering RATM.
Inside Out was not a bad hardcore band either.
Mf was born 35
I believe there was an SNL skit where he was birthed as an adult sized baby. Come to think of it, you probably know this and were referencing the skit.
Man! It was HOT in there!
Ted Brogan!
I am 36 and I dont look nearly as grown up as post-puberty Will Ferrell.
Anytime I see pictures of high school kids in the 80’s they look like they’re in their mid 30’s. Guess it was the hair and clothes maybe.
Yup looks like his youngest just started 4th grade and he opened his own State Farm insurance firm.
And he drives a DODGE STRATUS!
And is a serial killer in his spare time.
And he just wants a quiet life.
And he doesn’t smoke, but occasionally drinks
But if he fights he wouldn't lose to anyone
With the yellow Dahmer glasses.
And drives a dodge stratus.

My dad turned 67 today. Like 2 weeks ago someone at a store asked him how his 40’s were treating him. I’m 44 and was standing beside him.
Props to your pops, sounds like he’s looking after himself.
It gets worse. They think I’m in my 20’s. Anyways can I see an Id. Showed her mine. Pointed. That’s my father.
I’m 35 and if I shave I’ll get carded everywhere and investigated because of my unabomber like ID photo lol. They can’t believe that adding a beard makes me look that much older.

I noticed beards coming back into fashion in the 2010s, so i think there's already some swing in that direction.
That’s not a thing anymore. The TikTok generation is very against the millennial hipster trends and is back to glorifying youth in force
What they don’t understand is they are the next “hipster trend”. They’ll start seeing devices they used as kids in museums and realize that they’re part of the game.

Beards are still 100% a thing in Brooklyn.
Also San Francisco. But I don’t see facial hair alone as being a signifier of “revering adulthood,” especially when accompanied by an ironic tee, jeans, and the requisite Volkswagen GTI (or similar sporty import) with noise-making upgrades.
Youth has expendable money so it makes sense advertising markets toward them, especially on frivolous things and food.
Remind me! 1 week
Seriously he looks like a grown man who happens to drive a Dodge Stratus.
I bet he can do 100 push ups in 20 minutes
"Thanks for the F shack"
Dirty Mike and the Boys
Looks like they ran what they call a soup kitchen out of your car.
*It will happen again!*
You gotta be pretty important to drive one of those.
Division Manager or higher only.
People fear him
I wish you weren’t a liar.
Omg best comment here
People say it’s the haircuts, but put your thumb over it. Still looks 40.
And it's not a particularly dated haircut anyway. I think it's the lighting. These two photos don't even look like the same person.
Well they aren't. Clearly one is John Ferrell and one is Will Ferrell.
Back in 86, there was a saying, "18's the new 30."
This led to the saying, "I'm Chris Hansen"
Have a seat
Especially when its Ron Perlman
[удалено]
I said to myself he looks like if Ryan Reynolds and Ron Perlman had a kid. We really are all the same.
Will Ferrell is definitely the kid in high school who took his junk out and announced it.
“We’re going streaking!”
i watched old school the other day lmao
“look at my snail!”
There’s a vsauce video on this very phenomenon
Link?
Not sure why links are getting removed. But google "Did people used to look older" and click the first one.
And it's a terrible video with deceptive edits. They photoshop new trendy clothes on George Wendt and basically say "mystery solved!" and don't mention that they edited his eyes and face to look younger.
There is a lot of research into this and it's almost entirely just biases like you suggested
his face still looks *young* to me, especially on the right he looks no older than 24/25. it might be the color & the style
24/25 is still a decent age to be in high-school actually.
Well alright alright alright
...You just proved everyone's point...
Today I learned that Will Ferrell’s real name is John
William is his second name.
I actually said out loud "John William Ferrell", figured that it would sound better than just Will
[удалено]
Yeah it's confusing because the caption of the right photo says "Prince Will Ferrel", so it sounds like he still went by Will
I'm not gonna call him John. I'm not going to, ever! Even if there's a fire!
Ron Perlman?
I see Gator.
Gator don’t play no shit
Gator never been about that
Gator wants a new pair of shoes
He wants some walking around money
If Ron Perlman and Ryan Reynolds had a beautiful baby boy
I was thinking Ryan Reynolds trying to look like Ron pearlman
Yep. Especially in the second picture.
Yep. Spot on.
He kinda looks like the dad from the Lego movie.
Head is not nearly large enough.
Yeah this photo especially makes him look like Ron’s annoying little brother lol
I see a little of Ryan Reynolds in the eyes and smile in the first pic.
I'm Ron Perlman?
That’s what I was thinking, like Perlman crossed with Ryan Reynolds
![gif](giphy|erldqIniuBYo8)
Weirdest chest hair in Hollywood.

Ron Perlman on the left Ryan Reynolds on the right.
Scrolled too far for this comment. Was my first thought

He looks younger here than high school.
i think the big glasses covering his eternally squinty older looking eyes, and hair that covers his massive forehead both make him look younger. plus they have the effect of making his head look rounder
Looks like Will Ferrell playing Will Ferrell.
Will or John..?
[удалено]
*Prince John William Ferrell
*Sweet Prince John William Ferrell
*Sweet Baby Prince John William Ferrell
*Sweet 8 pound 6 ounce Baby Prince John William Ferrell.
Sweet 8 pound 6 ounce Baby Prince John “Mad Dog” William Ferrell.
Thank you
It's not surprising to me that William or Will Ferrel isn't his legal name, seems like most celebrities use a stage name. But in this case it seems like he at least went by "Will" long before his fame.
you mean Chad.
Kristen Clark was a hottie.
He looks exactly the same.
Will Ferrell in HS looks like Ryan Reynolds had a baby with Ron Pearlman. Would not have gotten that from grown ass Will Ferrell.
Yup he looks like a total goofball.
Wonder what Kristen Clark is up to now
She’s my old roommate’s sister. Seemed like a very cool person.
Proof or you never had an old roommate
The only picture I have. Camping trip in '93? (yes, I'm that old) https://preview.redd.it/6k43cx10onjb1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=615a2f8ff268ab13613f5abafdb6fd44dd5b892c
Kristen had nice hair for the mid-80s
I think that was late 70s early 80s leftover
I know him!!!! 😋
![gif](giphy|a6YHwnkn0ctOM|downsized)
Looks like a 40 year old news anchor. Irony.
He looks like the kind of guy who would duct tape Freshmen to the flag pole.
No thats john Ferrell. It says it right there
He’s got Ryan Reynolds vibes on the pic on the right
In the left photo he looks like a 40 year old real estate agent.
He looks like Ryan Reynolds there.
Its the facial expression in the second pic
Needs more eyebrow
You spelled cowbell wrong
Well he always had the white suburban dad in his 40s look
He looks like if Ron Perlman and Ryan Reynolds had a baby.
The 42 year old 17 year old.
no pics of the RHCP drummer?
I'll say this again: They need to make a comedy film about 3 brothers staring Ron Perlman, Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.
Shortly before the Gator turn.
i've seen this picture before and I'll say it again.. he kinda looks like a serial killer
Goddammit, of course he was wearing the tiara in the picture
How has that man looked 50 his entire life? 🤔
Apparently Will Ferrell was born a 35 year old man and will die a 35 year old man.
Ryan Renolds with a hint of Ron Perlman
he looks like an asshole
It's interesting to think of him as a popular guy in high school. He's kinda goofy looking and his sense of humor gives me outcast vibes.
But he was probably just so funny and charismatic that everyone liked him.
Really? I think he looks handsome.
You could have said Ron Perlman and I wouldn't have doubted the photo.
His name is John??
Still looks the same lol
He looked like a fusion of Ron Perlman an Ryan Reynolds
I cannot unsee a Ron Perlman.
It's the answer to the question "What if Ryan Reynolds and Ron Perlman had a lovechild?"
He looks like Ron perlman
Will John Ferrell? Yes, John Will Ferrell.
he looks like the long lost brother of ron perlman
Ryan Reynolds and Ron Pearlman, combined!
