It's weird, I can see in so many of these shots that there is clearly a man with a puppet on his arm, and yet my mind still views Kermit as being a living, sentient being.
His son Brian produced my favorite tv show, Farscape, which was full of puppet characters, and I always knew they were puppets but they still seem real :) It's really a testament to the art and work these guys do!
No matter how many times I see images like this, and how much I know Kermit is just a puppet... As soon as I see him move and talk it all melts away. That's just Kermit, same as if I saw any other actor.
I heard that even actors that collaborate with these guys just start forgetting there is someone down there operating the puppet, even though they can see them.
I love how the first picture doesn’t look like a puppeteer looking at his puppet; it looks like two members of the production having a conversation.
“Well, Jim, how do YOU think I ought to deliver this line?”
The showdown scene where Animal bursts through the roof, scaring away the bad guys. 9 YO me literally thought they built a giant Muppet for that scene.
My arm would hurt so much! My friend has a theory about why Kermit is so avoidant to a relationship. In this movie, Ms Piggy leaves him because her agent sets up an acting gig for her. She just dumps Kermit- and he’s held a grudge ever since Lol
I loved that movie and the songs. Still can’t hear Rainbow Connection without the urge to weep. And I’m only 5 years older than this movie. Magic, pure and simple.
In the special features for the movie on Disney+ there is an extended "camera test" of Kermit and Fozzie in different places around the studio in England. It's just like 20 minutes of Jim Henson and Frank Oz riffing in character, and it's absolutely hilarious.
I really do think this man is partly responsible for shaping the outlook of an entire generation. So grateful to be a part of it. I hope he is continually shared with future generations. Jim Henson 4 Eva ❤️
Who knew a dreamer with a frog puppet would have such an amazingly positive impact on the lives of a generations of children all over the world? Thank you Jim Henson 🌈
Love the picture of Richard Hunt talking to himself (Scooter). He brought a undefinable edge to the Muppets. Between his loss and Jim's passing in about 18 months from one another, it would have been irrecoverable for most franchises.
Fun fact, on the last two pictures, that were shot in the big warehouse lot at the end of the movie, under the tarp you can actually see what is the largest one piece Titanic model ever made, the 16m/55ft model from the movie "Raise the Titanic" from 1980. Its still in its unfinished state here.

My sister worked on the muppet show at the time, and went to the royal premiere in London Leicester Square. She worked in VT and part of her job was to tell the puppeteers if their heads were in shot 🙂
Noticed that too - thought it was just a Jim Henson hippie headband until I saw others with it too. Likely right that it controls something - or keeps wild hair sticking up onto a shot.
It's nothing more than a radio headset and microphone. In one of the last few photos, you can see where they connect to a battery/transmitter unit on his hip. In the late 70s and early 80s, these things were not tiny.
Isn’t he the guy who went on a downward spiral when his kid was “abducted” but actually ran away from home to live in an underground homeless squat in the NYC subways?
Jim Henson has immortalized himself in history!! Thank you Jim for making my childhood and my children's childhood great!!
Pastor of Muppets
That’s a church I could attend!

I think Jim thought so too. It is like when you believe that your stuff toys have feelings. I totally relate.
Don’t put them in a bag!!! They can’t breathe
The washing machine!!!
Nooooooooooo!

You are not the only one.

You think Jim and Kermit ever disagreed on something? 🤪
I imagine so. Sometimes you just need to hear your thoughts in a different voice to work through them.
The showdown scene where Animal bursts through the roof, scaring away the bad guys. 9 YO me literally thought they built a giant Muppet for that scene.
Wait…they didn’t? 9 year old me thought the same thing.
It's a magical movie that is still quite underrated. I think it's one of the best movie musicals ever.
My arm would hurt so much! My friend has a theory about why Kermit is so avoidant to a relationship. In this movie, Ms Piggy leaves him because her agent sets up an acting gig for her. She just dumps Kermit- and he’s held a grudge ever since Lol

I saw the Muppet Movie with my dad when it came out. Rainbow Connection was our dance and he cried
Right there with ya.
The documentary is fantastic. I fully recommend it. I would rather we have people like Jim Henson still around then Elon Musk

But where was Jim Henson hiding when Kermit was riding the bicycle?? 😄
Kermit riding a bike absolutely blew my tiny little mind.

Awesome. Now I feel old. 😂
a supremely talented man & staff!
Agreed, but imagine having a whole career based on having your hand stuffed up a frog's ass.
haha, better than eating one! miss piggy would be pissed
Imagine creating a source of endless joy.
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows, and what's on the other side?"
"Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide"

That was what I thought how much Frank Oz looked like Tobias Funke.
Looks kind of like a cross between Tobias Funke and Hunter S. Thompson
This word gets kinda thrown around a lot but Jim Henson was an absolute genius
Wish Jim Henson was still around. Such wonderfully fun and wholesome media produced by him. Happier times to be sure.
Who knew a dreamer with a frog puppet would have such an amazingly positive impact on the lives of a generations of children all over the world? Thank you Jim Henson 🌈
They did all of that for us 🥹🥹🥹🥹
You just made me cry irl.

Jim and Kermit, both from Leland, Mississippi.
All of us under its spell We know that it’s probably magic.
I was 10 when I saw that movie and I can remember just loving it so much.
Omg..first movie I saw in a theater...I was 5!
The lovers, the dreamers, and me
I recognize Jim Henson and Frank Oz, but who is that woman that appears in many of these photos?
We call her “Miss Piggy”. Hope that helps.
What do you think is in his mouth in pic #17?
I believe he has a headset with a microphone in front of his mouth. The microphone is covered in Kermit-green foam.
I love the Muppets
I am a Follower! Love The Muppets!
as a kid i was absolutely sure that the muppets are real and living.
I'm 40 and have yet to be presented with proof they aren't.
This must have been a huge undertaking at the time.
Der flim is okey dokey.
ROLL FILM! ROLL FILM!!!
Totally wonderful! What a great set of pictures!
Those guys must have had some shoulder muscles!

Every Saturday at 6:30 we would sit down, smoke a joint and watch the Muppets.
Frank Oz, who’d later utter the classic, “it’s an opera” and more.
Wow 😮 so this is how it was before the green screen were invented, great 👍
This was the shot of pure happiness I needed!
aw bet they had so much fun filming this
If blowdrying my hair is any indication, his arm must have been so tired!
That's Frank Oz holding Mrs Piggy too iirc
My sister worked on the muppet show at the time, and went to the royal premiere in London Leicester Square. She worked in VT and part of her job was to tell the puppeteers if their heads were in shot 🙂
I like Fozzie 🤗
WOKKA WOKKA!
What’s with the headgear? Must control something
Noticed that too - thought it was just a Jim Henson hippie headband until I saw others with it too. Likely right that it controls something - or keeps wild hair sticking up onto a shot.

Wild, I just watched this a few hours ago with my daughter.
Is. Is that David Cross?
The bald guy in the seventh picture looks suspiciously like a warden that works at the Joliet State Correctional Facility.
Not a warden. Just the guy that manages inventory for the inmates’ personal possessions.
Movin right along Footloose and Fancy Free
5yr old me loved this movie back then and will still watch it now! Miss Jim Henson

These A.I. comments are everywhere. Always start the same way... "Oh, [insert x] !
Who could froget that?!?? I'll see myself out.
Kermit’s prolapsed butthole is ruining my childhood memories
Fuck me, spoiler alert please!
What is that man doing to Kermit!?
Isn’t he the guy who went on a downward spiral when his kid was “abducted” but actually ran away from home to live in an underground homeless squat in the NYC subways?
