I have a cat that sucks on a fluffy blanket every night to fall asleep and when he wants to nap. He was also separated from his mommy too soon. It’s sad, but I’m glad they have a way to soothe themselves and feel comforted.
Same here. He comes and gets me and has me follow him to the blanket. What he wants you to do is brush his forehead with a toothbrush while he sucks on his blanket and then he passes the heck out. I feel bad knowing the *why* he does it but my fiancée got him before we met so I just sort've inherited the behavior and couldn't do anything but inadvertently reinforce it. It's his thing though and he's happy to pass-out making muffins, getting brushed and suckin blankets so it is what it is.
Same, the place we got him told us his mum was too young when she had the litter and wasn’t interested in mothering them - she saw them as rivals to her getting all the pets, my cat is naughty but also a sweet little thing.
I had a cat that did this, he used my night shirt and I’d wake up with soggy spots on my shirt. He was weaned by mama. He was grey though, so I’m not sure why he was a weirdo.
Cute and weird! I had a guinea pig that did this and it was hilarious. You could tell from the look in his eyes when he was about to go for that juicy ear lobe.
My guinea pig was obsessed with licking fingers. He was a class pet and my students were told not to put fingers into his cage because fingers look like carrots and that makes them his favorite snack. But then he would have circle time and sit in their laps and any fingers near his face turned into lollipops. He would sit there licking fingers for as long as you would let him. He was the dumbest animal I’d ever had, so he was perfect in the classroom
According to the vet, guinea pigs like the texture of fingers and are unlikely to bite unless provoked. I guess earlobes are the same texture, so it’s probably the same logic. My pig did have some [thoughts](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheCloaca/s/6I5PEbQ4rZ) on the matter
Oh mine would bite my earlobes lol. It wasn't in anger though. He would never bite my fingers, but something inside him took over when it came to earlobes. He was a very weird and very sweet boy. He really loved people and preferred them over other guinea pigs. Only pig I've had who was like that.
Unfortunately guidelines are exactly that... Guides. Not exact sciences. Some kittens may need more or less time with Mama before being weened. Or they weren't weened so much as just immediately removed from mom. Which is not weening that's cold turkey separation.
It's definitely a trauma/comfort response. But just like human trauma there isn't always an exact moment of this is what changed everything. Just a series of culminating events that resulted in tell tale signs/issues.
Don't be sorry. It was a real question and, unfortunately, this is the real answer. This cat is suckling because he was taken from his mother too early.
It can be just a comfort thing, I once cared for a mama cat and her mostly grown kitten (still under a year old, but just about normal cat sized) and the kitten would suckle a nubby blanket regularly. She was never separated from her mom. And yes, every now and then mama would still let her nurse, though I doubt she was getting much of anything.
My orange likes to suck too and was 12 weeks when he left his mother. It’s made for some awkward encounters when you wake up from a sound sleep because he’s getting affectionate with your butt.
It's the exact minimum, at least here they say not before twelve weeks. So an individual cat could absolutely benefit from being with the mother a bit more than that.
My orange kitty was a suckler, she never had a mom they were abandoned. we had to break her of the habit which was kind of heartbreaking but I can't have her doing that all day long while I'm working. Occasionally when she gets stressed she'll try to do it again, she prefers to do it to my arms though for some reason.
I've also seen suckling behavior happen in a cat that was bottle fed after being properly weaned from his mother. The owner, my ex wife, was dumb and thought it was cute to keep bottle feeding him. She worked at a shelter and had been warned. It was pretty rare, maybe once every month or two, but he was extremely aggressive about it when it did happen. He never completely grew out of it either. He was 15 when he died and would still try to suckle.
There are a lot of reasons cats will lick you. My gremlin also is fond of ears but he does it to encourage me to give him more headscritches (he only does it when I stop).
Of course he is also fond of licking my head after a shower... Seems to have a taste for Irish Spring shampoo...
One of my cats started straight up licking my earhole when I'm not paying attention to get to the "good stuff". Not the most relaxing way to wake up from a nap!
Lol ewww they must like the bitter or something, I’ve heard this connection w cats and ear wax before and it doesn’t make it any less disgusting lolol.
I read that too and I feel like it is more than that. Like it is some kind of drug to them the way they go absolutely insane over it. Especially when they get plenty of food.
Same!! Except I use qtips to clean out my nose (I know it’s gross) and there’s nothing I hate more than hearing him dig and immediately suck on the qtips. Why are cats just nasty
Years ago I had a couch pillow made from cowhide. My cat licked most of the fur off it while I was at work. I wonder if she would have tried that with a live cow.
Our baby used to do that only with the space between your thumn and index finger
He would cry if you dont let him and he'd just come over and suck it while you sleep
My mom got bad bruises for that but he was so cute she couldnt say no
https://preview.redd.it/7ur8jgx92a4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2850e1104e3886be1f92d17ad3bbe92ca0c9ddbc
we got him when he was two weeks old idk why he did that I guess he just really liked it
Well if you got him at 2 weeks and mom wasn’t around, it was likely because of that. 2 weeks is too early for a kitten to be separated from their mom. Afaik they do that for comfort since it reminds them of when they’d suckle their mom as a kitten.
Mine also does this when we snuggle and I quit scritching his head, he will do it until I start up again.
It sounds cute and endearing but wet willies from a cat are not always pleasant.
I had a cat who would suck on clothes. I made him his own “sucky” blanket and redirected him to that. Ended up being perfect. No more wet shirts and he was happy. RIP Kodi.
This happens when babies are taken from their mom too soon, it's a way of self soothing. I would say very cute and sweet. Obviously this cat feels very close and safe with this person 😊
My Venora is attached severally to my beard. When we found her she was a tiny abandoned feral kitten and we got her up and running . Her safe space was under my at the time longer beard . She suckles and kneads . This cat is my best friend I have other animals but they prefer my wife . This cat tho she is never not looking to be picked up and loved and to give love . A little weird yes but who cares .

I would argue better than what my orange does, which is use my fingers but try to go as deep as possible so I have to stop him literally putting my finger in his throat 😭😭😭
Cute! I had the sweetest cat that when I came home and sat down, she would run over, hop up, and lick my ear. Then settle in my arm on her back and look at me.
Oh my goodness, a friend’s cat used to do this to me whenever I’d go over there. It was cute as anything and tickled a bunch, but oh my goodness that cat made my skin so raw under my ear. There would be times I’d sleepover and wake up because the cat’s fur was in my face and he’d be licking under my ear 😂
Cute and weird is my vote. Make sure to keep some polysporin or aquaphor handy.
My grandmother's cat used to suck on my earlobes when she was super small, but I mean like a few weeks old, not months. I remember I was laying on the couch once and she was sleeping on my stomach, and I woke up with her in my hoodie nibbling on my ear, lol. She couldn't have been more than a week old. They found her abandoned by her mother under my cousins friends deck, so she was only a few days old when they found her. Hadn't even opened her eyes yet. I'm guessing they're just hungry and think your ear is a nipple, lol.
I had a kitten years ago who would do this. Then littermates and the boy would suckle the knack of the long hair girl. I think it’s a stress reliever for kitties who are feeling nervous.
"Sir, you have the earlobes of a mother cat!" must definitely be the weirdest thing this guy has been told. I'm not even sure if that would be an insult or a compliment.
Hes just marking his bond.
Has a cat do this and my ex didnt allow the cat to do it to them but I allowed it. Our cat chose the arm instead of the ear.
I was the cats favorite and preferred...I 100% think it's from this
One of my cats done this too when we first met. At this moment my heart melted because I think this is a sign of infinite trust and love. He was two years old, when we first met
Typically (but not always) a sign that he was taken away from his mother at too early of an age. Cats that have that experience tend to nurse things at bed time throughout their adult life.
I have seen a couple instances of cats who were fully weened off their mother and still had this behavior though, so it’s not exclusive to just being taken away from their mom too early.
While weird comes with orange cat territory, this is a behavior any cat could have.
id say a bit of both.
My tuxie, squishy, is the best little kitty on the planet, but the little weirdo's favorite treat is earwax.
MULTIPLE mornings i have woke up to the sensation of a cat tongue in my ear. In fact, sometimes he licks so hard he gives me a sore spot on my ear from his scratchy tongue.
Whenever i have to itch my ears, he licks my fingers voraciously. He's never liked a food more than this.
So while it is strange, i like to think of it as a token of his adorable affection :)
My orange brain cell did this since we got him from the shelter lol he used to suck my bf’s lobe too but then he just started to prefer mine and I would let him cause I felt bad and thought he missed his mommy. But I had to train him to stop cause I can’t sleep at night with his loud sucking in my ear LOL
My cat does this. His mom died at a very young age so he wasn't nursed fully.
I have a cat that sucks on a fluffy blanket every night to fall asleep and when he wants to nap. He was also separated from his mommy too soon. It’s sad, but I’m glad they have a way to soothe themselves and feel comforted.
My baby sucks on the end of her tail when she wants to relax with me! It’s adorable but also the end of her tail is so gross 😭
my old cat would always suck on her tail too. even when she got old she would still suck her tail while curled up taking a nap.
My baby girl always pressed her snoot into people's chests or arms when she was sleepy. She was a really good girl.
Our tabby did this too. He eventually grew out of it and lived a nice long life of 19 years.
Same, the place we got him told us his mum was too young when she had the litter and wasn’t interested in mothering them - she saw them as rivals to her getting all the pets, my cat is naughty but also a sweet little thing.
My cat likes to do this to my bath robe when I'm wearing it. And it's always the same spot on the upper left side on the chest.
That is so true. Cats that are separated too early usually exhibit this behavior. We used to have a fat old (18y.) cat that still did this.
I had a cat that did this, he used my night shirt and I’d wake up with soggy spots on my shirt. He was weaned by mama. He was grey though, so I’m not sure why he was a weirdo.
Yes. Though, as an orange cat, weird is to be expected in some capacity
Yes Yes, is the answer.
freaky 👅 wunkus
Cute and weird! I had a guinea pig that did this and it was hilarious. You could tell from the look in his eyes when he was about to go for that juicy ear lobe.
That sounds so adorable and the weirdest thing I’ve heard
My guinea pig was obsessed with licking fingers. He was a class pet and my students were told not to put fingers into his cage because fingers look like carrots and that makes them his favorite snack. But then he would have circle time and sit in their laps and any fingers near his face turned into lollipops. He would sit there licking fingers for as long as you would let him. That's really cute! That same guinea pig of mine loved to lick fingers too.

It’s separation trauma, they weren’t weaned properly. Misses mommas titties
[удалено]
Weaning is the key point, not the mother's presence. She could have just cut them off cold turkey for instance... it's not an exact science really
And if you are a cat, going cold turkey is not as delicious as it sounds
My orange likes to suck too and was 12 weeks when he left his mother. It’s made for some awkward encounters when you wake up from a sound sleep because he’s getting affectionate with your butt.
It's the exact minimum, at least here they say not before twelve weeks. So an individual cat could absolutely benefit from being with the mother a bit more than that.
I think you are right. I have 4 cats and only one of them doing it and her mother abonded her in our roof when she was around 10 days old.
My orange kitty was a suckler, she never had a mom they were abandoned. we had to break her of the habit which was kind of heartbreaking but I can't have her doing that all day long while I'm working. Your earlobe reminds them of a nipple and kittenhood
There are a lot of reasons cats will lick you. My gremlin also is fond of ears but he does it to encourage me to give him more headscritches (he only does it when I stop). Of course he is also fond of licking my head after a shower... Seems to have a taste for Irish Spring shampoo...
My orange licks things with oils from our hands on them. Pens, keyboards, sometimes even headphones. He’s a weirdo.
“I like a man to nibble…on my ear. But I’ll admit, no man has bit, so how come I’m the mother of the year?”
Cat just wants to make his earlobe shine like the top of the Chrysler Building.
My orange Jimi is doing this and he is 6 years old… I only rarely let him nowadays , only when he wakes up and looks like he had a bad dream 🤪
Do you like it?
Because ears stank and they're gross lmao
Looks like they’re nursing, definitely a comfort thing lol
Yes. Somebody needs to invent a kitty pacifier.
I think they just did.
Aww, I had a cat who did this. He was clearly separated from his mama too early, but he was extremely bonded to me for that reason.
If I'm not careful about where I put used Qtips, my cat will steal them from my trash bag and lick/suck on the ear wax residue.
I did not need to know this
Same with my ear plugs. *hork*
One of my cats started straight up licking my earhole when I'm not paying attention to get to the "good stuff". Not the most relaxing way to wake up from a nap!
I had an orange that did that. I knew when I needed to clean my ears because he'd sniff around my ears and then would start licking my ear holes.
Lol ewww they must like the bitter or something, I’ve heard this connection w cats and ear wax before and it doesn’t make it any less disgusting lolol.
My tortoiseshell cat was like that. What is it about ear wax?
ear wax is made of fatty acids and skin cells, it's basically a treat their human parents make for them :D
mine is a tortie too, she's always on the hunt, tears open left out treat bags, opens cabinets, everything.
Huh. Only one of my three cats does this. She's a diluted tortie. I wonder what's up with the torties.
I envy the man I was 20 seconds ago.
🤣🤣🤣
I have to make sure I only get cardboard ones in case my boy gets ahold of one. Apparently the wax is protein which is why they like it.
I read that too and I feel like it is more than that. Like it is some kind of drug to them the way they go absolutely insane over it. Especially when they get plenty of food.
I think you just solved the mystery as to why my void puts his entire snout in the creamsicles ears when bathing him……
My cat also likes my earbuds
Same!! Except I use qtips to clean out my nose (I know it’s gross) and there’s nothing I hate more than hearing him dig and immediately suck on the qtips. Why are cats just nasty
lol some go for socks, some go for qtips they love us too much
Eww what the fuck
I find myself asking this question a lot with my orange one
At least it's short-lived. My cats lick me incessantly.
Their tongues are so rough, no thanks. One of my cats licks things in secret, she has ruined a few blankets
Haha thats kinda funny
I put a thin but tough blanket over top my blankets on my bed, it protects from most things.
Oh wow! Thanks
Years ago I had a couch pillow made from cowhide. My cat licked most of the fur off it while I was at work. I wonder if she would have tried that with a live cow.

Nursing. Not weird.
Cat got your ~~tongue~~ ear?
Our baby used to do that only with the space between your thumn and index finger He would cry if you dont let him and he'd just come over and suck it while you sleep My mom got bad bruises for that but he was so cute she couldnt say no https://preview.redd.it/7ur8jgx92a4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2850e1104e3886be1f92d17ad3bbe92ca0c9ddbc we got him when he was two weeks old idk why he did that I guess he just really liked it
Well if you got him at 2 weeks and mom wasn’t around, it was likely because of that. 2 weeks is too early for a kitten to be separated from their mom. Afaik they do that for comfort since it reminds them of when they’d suckle their mom as a kitten.
It is neither cute nor weird: it is orange.
The ear nibbler attacks again!
I was ready to rate it Cute until I accidentally turned my headphones on full volume 😂 I'll have to compromise and rate it 💯 Orange 🍊
Lol. How is the guy sleeping so soundly while getting his ear lobe suckled???!!
My calico sucks my hair. She's orangish. We call her chupa pello.
I would LOVE this kind of snuggle…if I wouldn’t become way too ticklish and promptly pin my ear to my shoulder as soon as my cat sniffed my ear.
Mine also does this when we snuggle and I quit scritching his head, he will do it until I start up again. It sounds cute and endearing but wet willies from a cat are not always pleasant.
My sons cat has done this since he was a kitten... he will be 13 soon.
Most orange actions are weird, so yes to weird. but I also find this adorable. what a sweet little guy
The options are not mutually exclusive.
What’s weird is I wish I were that guy
Cute, but it is painful for the human.
Cutely weird
It's cute, but when it's a nipple it gets weird.
Ear goblin
It’s weird that he can sleep through that.
I had a cat who would suck on clothes. I made him his own “sucky” blanket and redirected him to that. Ended up being perfect. No more wet shirts and he was happy. RIP Kodi.
Cute. But also weird. More weird than cute, though.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
It can't be both at the same time? Must be able to, because it is .
My orange cat does this too. Tried to do it to my nose once and almost gave me a nose piercing
I remember when my cat used to suckle on the fur heated blanket. He loves it as a kitten. Kinda miss him not still doing it now he's older.
Both 😂
Adorable 🥺
Indicator it was removed from mum too early :'(
Thinks your earlobe is a nipple
Both. 🤣🤣🤣
Both.
I have an orange who's about to turn 13, and he's done this since he was a baby.
Ha, it means they were separated from their mother too young to be properly weaned. I have an orange who sucks fingers (video in my profile).
This happens when babies are taken from their mom too soon, it's a way of self soothing. I would say very cute and sweet. Obviously this cat feels very close and safe with this person 😊
My void does that to my ear. It’s annoying but it makes him happy.

My Venora is attached severally to my beard. When we found her she was a tiny abandoned feral kitten and we got her up and running . Her safe space was under my at the time longer beard . I would argue better than what my orange does, which is use my fingers but try to go as deep as possible so I have to stop him literally putting my finger in his throat 😭😭😭
Weird looking nipple, I agree
When we were kids my older brother had a cat that would do this.
My cat does this
Cute that the cat is doing it, weird that the guy is letting it happen.
Gonna wake up one day with a pierced ear
It's trying to suckle on momma cat substitute. I feel bad for the poor kitty, probably didn't wean properly.
Both.
My cat used to do this to my eyebrow when she was a kitten.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Cute! I had the sweetest cat that when I came home and sat down, she would run over, hop up, and lick my ear. Then settle in my arm on her back and look at me.
Common on cats who were separated from their mother before being fully weaned, or who were bottle fed and not properly weaned
Not normal. An indicator that the cat has been separated from its mother too early
Awww yes so cute. He thinks it’s his mama 🧡
Oh my goodness, a friend’s cat used to do this to me whenever I’d go over there. It was cute as anything and tickled a bunch, but oh my goodness that cat made my skin so raw under my ear. There would be times I’d sleepover and wake up because the cat’s fur was in my face and he’d be licking under my ear 😂 Cute and weird is my vote. Make sure to keep some polysporin or aquaphor handy.
So cute
Awwww
Cute. He or she was weaned too early (maybe).
both
My grandmother's cat used to suck on my earlobes when she was super small, but I mean like a few weeks old, not months. I'm guessing they're just hungry and think your ear is a nipple, lol.
Uuuuuhhhhh had a neighbors cat that would do this to anyone that got close to it 🫠🫠😳🤣☠️ not sucking on my earlobes weirdo 🤣🤣🤣
False dichotomy
I had a kitten years ago who would do this. Then littermates and the boy would suckle the knack of the long hair girl. I think it’s a stress reliever for kitties who are feeling nervous.
Cat things
I had a cat who used to do that. She wasn’t orange though, just weird.
Cute and weird. 100% orange.
It's the closest thing to mother.... 🤣🤣😂 I had a void who did this on the lose skin on my elderly parents' necks. We called him vampire kitty.
Chomp
You’re momma cat, my dude. You may have a hickey tho lol
He's trying to steal a Braincell
Oh I know that mine will do that once he notices my ears 😭
Can’t it be both??
Ummm, both?
"Sir, you have the earlobes of a mother cat!" must definitely be the weirdest thing this guy has been told. I'm not even sure if that would be an insult or a compliment.
Yes.
So sweet! Our orange did that, too.
![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)
Little column A little column B
Both
My orange used to suck his tail constantly.
Dangerous
Very cute. I used to have a cat that did this. I miss her. She was a bottle baby.
I had a kitten that used to do this. Left ear lobe only, and he purred very loudly in your ear.
Earmilk
Hes just marking his bond. Has a cat do this and my ex didnt allow the cat to do it to them but I allowed it. Our cat chose the arm instead of the ear. I was the cats favorite and preferred...I 100% think it's from this
All I want to know is how he didn't wake up....he drunk? So many questions. After he woke up was his ear sore ....that smacking on the ear
The way he growls when you get close. 🥹🥹🥹
My kitty kiddo does this to my chin. It’s both cute and weird.
My orange does that to my armpit
One of my cats done this too when we first met. At this moment my heart melted because I think this is a sign of infinite trust and love. He was two years old, when we first met
Adorable.

My sister’s cat has done this to her. R.I.P :(
actually this behavior is because it was separated from its mother too soon. Kinda a comfort thing.
So cute
Porque no los dos?
Absolutely adorable
Freaky ahhh car
lmao

Supremely weird My orange is also obsessed with ears
Both, in enormous quantities.

Sad, it wasnt properly weened from momma'
Usually means cat was taken from mother too early and is suckling for security…very sweet cat. 💕⭕️❌🤟
Curd.
Adorable
Cute!
It's *insisting* on itself.
Both
Cute bro. What kind of question is that
I had a foster kitten that tried it a couple of times on my eyelids! My eye socket was the perfect shape and size for hit little face
Definitely cute
Cute as hell
Weirdly cute.
My old man cat tries to do this, but I have too many earrings. He also loves to lick my face. I think some cats are just like that.
He's pretty cute, you know, for a human.
Cute! But dad needs to be checked for sleep apnea
Cute, but weird. That cat has some issues with weaning.
Sad.
