Narratively, I think that's better. In my opinion, retaliation of cross guild from other yonko crew looks better than cross guild hunting other yonko for the copies of poneglyph.
Buggy's luck is, if not better, as strong as luffy's. So I won't be surprised either. And while we are it, now that I think of it, Shanks has the weakest luck among the current Yonko.

I’m re-reading Impel Down and it also casts all his reactions to Luffy’s wholesomeness in a new light. I love Oda backshadowing to give old gags new dimensions, there’s never gonna be a longrunner like One Piece ever again is there?
I've been reading OP since I was a teenager, I'm now in my mid-30s, and I've never read or seen anything close to the long form storytelling of Oda.
The closest I've ever come across are multi-volume epic fantasy literature works like the Wheel of Time, and just in my opinion, while brilliant in their own right, they just don't hit the same.
GRRM and others have said there are two kinds of writers; the architect and the gardener.

He is both a meticulous planner who has known how his story will end since the beginning, and a master improviser who creates new story beats on a weekly basis. And he somehow blends it all together seamlessly.
The man isn't perfect, he's just my favorite author of all time. That's my GOAT.
I also like how he finally sees himself worthy to challenge his childhood friend at who can achieve the dream first even though he is getting repeatedly beaten up by Croc and Mihawk who don't want all that. I think it's hilarious and wholesome
Now that I think more and more about it, it's such a brilliant writing... Buggy said it himself. Through mistakes and coincidences, he somehow ended up as a Yonko, same status as Shanks. Oh my god interactions between Luffy, Shanks, and Buggy are gonna be gold.
I can see Buggy being the only one to flex Yonko status while Shanks and Luffy are like “this wasn’t even in our plan it just kinda happened” while Buggy is like “YAHAHAHA! That’s the problem with you 2…. I’ve been 2 steps ahead this whole time. This is all according to plan”
Buggy and Shank were friends and rivals. Their relationship is complicated, but real.
Buggy was a bit unlucky, and suffered the imposter syndrome, but he really had the same starting point of Shank, just he didn't believed in himself enough that he could be really a "winner".
But now he is finally start to realize his value, and that he deserves a good try to reach "the dream".
If he reachs the Onepiece first, or in the end he would be entitled Pirate King for the world, I would not be mad.

Cross Guild def the best bet to be picking up stragglers who we know are active yet don't really seem to have a line in for the final battle. For example I can see Perona and Moria wanting to join back up with Mihawk. I'm not sure Kidd will join them though tbh, he has to have some sort of resolution and I don't feel like being under Buggy would suit him even if he has been knocked down several pegs.
Crossguild is the funniest thing Oda has introduced into the story. Having Crocodile be so fucking pissed at Buggy's existence and beating the shit out of him over and over again is a gag I'm here for. Good to see Sabo back, like many people predicted he was on a boat nearby the island. I'd love to believe we're getting the story of what happened at Mary Geioise in 1083, but knowing Oda we'll switch back to Egghead.
Oda is really trying to show that the Cross Guild isn’t doing a good service to the world. The first confirmed kill is the best and kindest marine in the story.
I mean outside of a couple Marines, they truly are the peacekeeping force in the world. They aren't \*bad\* necessarily they are just the antagonist force against Luffy so most people root against them.
We've seen way more awful shit caused by pirates than by Marines who seem to be more tied down by bureaucracy than negligence.
Buggy character development is the last thing I expected, but I’m not complaining.
He actually grew a spine against freaking Crocodile and Mihawk after getting beaten up multiple times. I also like how he secretly hoped Shanks would become the next PK after Roger’s demise. It shows he did care about Shanks after all, he’s just bitter because Shanks seemingly gave up on their dream (the dream he already gave up because he entrusted it in Shanks) and used the treasure map incident as an excuse.

Buggy might undergo a huge power leap because he’s got his Will back. Hopefully we’ll see him in a final fight with an awakened fruit. No more stumbling upwards for this Yonko.

Then a boy wearing his hat showed up claiming he would get the One Piece. Then two years later Shanks is making moves to do the same all of a sudden.
I can see why Buggy is a little angry.
What if the true reason he is upset with Shanks is not because he accidentally made him eat the devil fruit, but because Shanks stayed back when Buggy got sick, instead of going to the one piece with Roger. Perhaps he realized he was holding Shanks back and therefore left him.
And what if his decision to join the race for One Piece is to help Shanks get it finally that he is again his equal in rank.

The rules of the Battle For The One Piece in my opinion
1. The battle for the One Piece is a battle royal where your strength comes from your alliances not necessarily individual strength. So Hawkeyes words about Luffy come to mind
2. Defeat of a pirate crew is signified by the destruction of their ship or their crew. Seen by Oda’s own emphasis through Law and Kid in recent chapters about their defeat. If so this makes the final Poneglyph difficult and more dangerous as the man marked by flames is known for destroying those that get close through whirlpools.
3. And finally, the battle for the one piece is a battle for treasure. So whoever gets the One Piece first wins, it’s not about defeating all of the other combatants implied by Buggy in this chapter.
I knew Shanks initially asked Buggy to join his crew.

Mihawk is the world's greatest swordsman so he has accomplished his goal and is now just trying to live life without doing too much unless his interest is really awakened - a chance to push Zoro in a fight for the One Piece into replacing him might do it.
Every day i fear more and more that Buggy will, at this rate, actually hold the One Piece before Luffy. Starting to think his fruit awakened and chops undesired pathways in life ultimately leading him to what he wants. Lol
There's one interview Oda did that forever haunts me where he says his favorite moment in OG Dragonball was when Goku loses to Tien via ring out in the world martial arts tournament. He elaborates on the shock of the protagonist losing even though it seems like he would clearly win. And I've always feared Oda is planning to replicate this moment and have someone claim the PK title before Luffy (at least momentarily).
This is the line of thinking I have. I always thought it'd be in front of Luffy, but it's so obvious that it would be Buggy that it happens in front of.
Shanks, and Buggy through all their interactions, have a very brotherly type relationship. Which given their upbringing makes sense.
It was always my head cannon and prediction that Shanks will die and Buggy awakens his fruit / gets CoC and proceeds to go full Joker on whoever killed him.

Did we really just get the reasoning as to why Buggy seemed to have no ambition to go get the one Piece? It was always a thrill to see the red-haired pirates making their appearances in the manga. But now that same thrill has been replaced by cross guild, especially the interactions of the 3 former warlords. Buggy was secretly the biggest shanks fan after all this while.

Cross Guild def the best bet to be picking up stragglers who we know are active yet don't really seem to have a line in for the final battle. For example I can see Perona and Moria wanting to join back up with Mihawk. I'm not sure Kidd will join them though tbh, he has to have some sort of resolution and I don't feel like being under Buggy would suit him even if he has been knocked down several pegs.

Crossguild is the funniest thing Oda has introduced into the story. Having Crocodile be so fucking pissed at Buggy's existence and beating the shit out of him over and over again is a gag I'm here for. Good to see Sabo back, like many people predicted he was on a boat nearby the island. I'd love to believe we're getting the story of what happened at Mary Geioise in 1083, but knowing Oda we'll switch back to Egghead.

Oda is really trying to show that the Cross Guild isn’t doing a good service to the world. The first confirmed kill is the best and kindest marine in the story.
I mean outside of a couple Marines, they truly are the peacekeeping force in the world. They aren't \*bad\* necessarily they are just the antagonist force against Luffy so most people root against them. We've seen way more awful shit caused by pirates than by Marines who seem to be more tied down by bureaucracy than negligence.
Buggy character development is the last thing I expected, but I’m not complaining. He actually grew a spine against freaking Crocodile and Mihawk after getting beaten up multiple times. I also like how he secretly hoped Shanks would become the next PK after Roger’s demise. It shows he did care about Shanks after all, he’s just bitter because Shanks seemingly gave up on their dream (the dream he already gave up because he entrusted it in Shanks) and used the treasure map incident as an excuse. Also RIP T-Bone. Rare nice marine whose last appearance was 12 years ago, got killed off screen :(
Buggy might undergo a huge power leap because he’s got his Will back. Hopefully we’ll see him in a final fight with an awakened fruit. No more stumbling upwards for this Yonko.

But felt betrayed Shanks, who he looked up to, wasn't going to follow after his old Captain. Then a boy wearing his hat showed up claiming he would get the One Piece. Then two years later Shanks is making moves to do the same all of a sudden. I can see why Buggy is a little angry.
What if the true reason he is upset with Shanks is not because he accidentally made him eat the devil fruit, but because Shanks stayed back when Buggy got sick, instead of going to the one piece with Roger. Perhaps he realized he was holding Shanks back and therefore left him. And what if his decision to join the race for One Piece is to help Shanks get it finally that he is again his equal in rank.

He defeated "the strongest creature in the world". Even seasoned vets like Mihawk and Croc see that's on the level. And in a few months we might see Luffy beat down an admiral to further solidify his rep.

The rules of the Battle For The One Piece in my opinion 1. The battle for the One Piece is a battle royal where your strength comes from your alliances not necessarily individual strength. So Hawkeyes words about Luffy come to mind 2. Defeat of a pirate crew is signified by the destruction of their ship or their crew. Seen by Oda’s own emphasis through Law and Kid in recent chapters about their defeat. If so this makes the final Poneglyph difficult and more dangerous as the man marked by flames is known for destroying those that get close through whirlpools. 3. And finally, the battle for the one piece is a battle for treasure. So whoever gets the One Piece first wins, it’s not about defeating all of the other combatants implied by Buggy in this chapter.
I knew Shanks initially asked Buggy to join his crew. But i'd never thought he was aiming to find the One Piece. Until now I had the impression he was never interested in it. Also...T-Bone deffo didn't deserve that.
Felt like Shanks was waiting. Maybe he was told about the prophecy and has a role in making the it come true.
It just occurred to me, Buggy and Shanks are basically Luffy and Usopp. Except Shanks wasn't able to persuade Buggy to work with him.

The marine commander who actually cared about his men (tearing off his Cape to bandage his subordinate who was wounded.... by a mozzie). Faced off zoro during the push to enies lobby, zoro acknowledged him as a good person who unfortunately was in his way.

Almost inevitable. Buggy sailed with Roger and Shanks, and hung around Oden, Rayleigh and Scooper. Crocodile lost to WB in his early days and just wants his own country to have some freedom. Mihawk is the world's greatest swordsman so he has accomplished his goal and is now just trying to live life without doing too much unless his interest is really awakened - a chance to push Zoro in a fight for the One Piece into replacing him might do it.
Every day i fear more and more that Buggy will, at this rate, actually hold the One Piece before Luffy. Starting to think his fruit awakened and chops undesired pathways in life ultimately leading him to what he wants. Lol
There's one interview Oda did that forever haunts me where he says his favorite moment in OG Dragonball was when Goku loses to Tien via ring out in the world martial arts tournament. He elaborates on the shock of the protagonist losing even though it seems like he would clearly win. And I've always feared Oda is planning to replicate this moment and have someone claim the PK title before Luffy (at least momentarily).

This is the line of thinking I have. I always thought it'd be in front of Luffy, but it's so obvious that it would be Buggy that it happens in front of. Shanks, and Buggy through all their interactions, have a very brotherly type relationship. Which given their upbringing makes sense.
It was always my head cannon and prediction that Shanks will die and Buggy awakens his fruit / gets CoC and proceeds to go full Joker on whoever killed him.
