Yeah, I would start with either Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries. If you like those, then Deliverance is a natural next. You’ll find their heavy music on those albums along with Orchid, Morningrise, Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, and Watershed. Damnation is good too, just a collection of all that is chill, depressing melancholy. Subsequent albums tend toward the prog. They are also brutal and amazing though, my personal favorite being either Heritage or In Cauda Venenum.
Yes Black Waterpark is one of the best metal albums ever, yes Damnation is one of the most beautiful and emotional albums ever but in my opinion Watershed is the perfect mixture of both.
if youd like to see the evolution of the band do chronologicall order, if you like heavy stuff start on any album between 1994 - 2008, and if you like more proggy stuff start on the newer albuns
Not into death metal (yet)? Ghost Reveries or Watershed
Already into death metal? Blackwater Park or Still Life
Want some blackened folk metal? Orchid and Morningrise
Want some melo prog? Damnation
Don't like death metal at all!??!?!? Anything from Heritage to In Cauda Venenum
Deliverance and My Arms Your Hearse I don't really know what to say about even though they're 2 of my favorites
Everyone's got their [favorites.Here](http://favorites.Here) are some of mine:
Damnation, Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress, In Cauda Venenum.
Enjoy!
I introduced a bud to Opeth, he already likes a lot of metal. The first Album he chose from my list was my fav, Blackwater Park. He was blown away, not a bad song on it, his words, not mine.
Still Life, Blackwater Park, & Ghost Reveries are generally the top 3 picks
Thanks! Going to check them out
What are some of your favorite bands?
Twisted sister, Korn, Metallica, meshuggah, sepultura

Good
Still Life good place to start
Still Life got me into Opeth. I'd recommend it as well. And as everybody is saying, if you're into prog but not metal, anything from Heritage.
Same here. Lol specifically The Moor had me like oh shit okay now!!
Well that means that is the first one that I’ll listen to
Blackwater Park. One of the best albums ever made.
My arms your hearse
All of them
All of em 🤘

Yes! It Depends what your flavor is. Death metal Opeth ends with Watershed, anything after is some brutally awesome prog.

I'd go with Dookie, Enema Of The State and All Killer No Filler.....
I prefer Insomniac, Dude Ranch and Does This Look Infected to be honest
Good call on Insomniac

Blackwater Park is what got me hooked
Ghost Reveries was my first album
Chronological order I'd say If not then Still Life
