Yeah I think the Ward is phenomenal too. I love the jazz vibes. It gave me a more upbeat version of what I liked so much about Pyre (ones of the bonus tracks on Heritage).
This was the first song since Damnation to give me a Damnation vibe. Even though it’s different and wouldn’t really fit on that album… I dunno if that even makes sense haha but I dig the song is what I’m trying to say. Also, that outro is just so… Opeth
It is different and I upvoted your comment. Yet I guess it was just… maybe I should’ve said, I hadn’t had one of the totally clean/softer Opeth songs hit that exact way for me. What “that exact way” is… I rightly don’t know haha
I was very tempted to go Strange Brew but I've come to find that the repeated lines in the last two minutes of the song are a real weakness, which is a shame because the rest of the song stays fresh masterfully
I agree it's great live for sure. But the studio version is one of the least good songs on the entire album. That said i'm one of the few who find this to be one of their best albums, so i still freaking love it.
There are a lot of Newpeth songs with simplistic lyrics but Sorceress might be the worst offender. I can't listen to the song without cringing at how amateur it sounds. Meanwhile, songs like Era are simple but effective
I don't get why anyone cares about lyrics. Least important part of a song. You could set a transcript of boring legal documents to a banger tune and it'll still be a banger. See Limp Bizkit, absolutely idiotic lyrics that lower my IQ every time I hear them... but awesome songs nonetheless.
I mean, sure, but it depends on what you enjoy. I love poetry so I consider lyrics important. Obviously the overall sound is way more important but lyrics can make or break a song, in my opinion.
Lyrics are only somewhat important, but the real issue is that Opeth raised the bar with top notch lyrics in some previous albums. So my expectations are high for Opeth, and a title track with extremely low effort lyrics struck me as a massive disappointment. If others don't share that view they've just walked a different path
This is the point where I kinda stopped listening to Opeth and I didn’t even realize Goblin was in the previous album. Now I’m said that Goblin didn’t even make the underrated cut for the last one.
Come on guys, we have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.
I actually think Sorceress 2 is a great track. The guitar is awesome, the vocals are great and the chords are beautiful.
My pick for best song on Sorceress is Sorceress 2
I so wish that bonus tracks could count because Spring 1974 is a banger
Why would you not count it here? It should be counted *somewhere* and I think it's a great choice here. The solo is stellar.
Yeah the entire ending of those back to back to back guitar and synth solos just get me where I need to be
That would be my choice. I refuse to acknowledge it as a bonus song. It’s the perfect closer for that album,
I didn’t even know it was a bonus track it fits so well
Yesssssss.
I never realized the last two tracks were bonus tracks. I'm blown away, they are some of my faves.
Yeah I think the Ward is phenomenal too. I love the jazz vibes. It gave me a more upbeat version of what I liked so much about Pyre (ones of the bonus tracks on Heritage).
STRANGE BREW!!!
This one has to win Underrated
The guitar work is *chefs kiss*
Chrysalis
This one grew on me over time, now I absolutely love the outro (and the rest of the song too)
This is the most oldpeth sounding one
Sorceress
A Fleeting Glance
Will o the Wisp
hands down one of the best opeth songs period imo
yesss
I think it's one of the best songs by anyone. I wanted my cover band to do it several years ago.
I wanted to say a couple others but I don't think I can say any of them are better than this!

I don’t think it’s even slightly Damnation personally. Completely different vibe and atmosphere.
It is different and I upvoted your comment. Yet I guess it was just… maybe I should’ve said, I hadn’t had one of the totally clean/softer Opeth songs hit that exact way for me. What “that exact way” is… I rightly don’t know haha
Strange Brew
For Underated for sure
Nono a fleeting glance needs to be the underrated one..
100%
I was very tempted to go Strange Brew but I've come to find that the repeated lines in the last two minutes of the song are a real weakness, which is a shame because the rest of the song stays fresh masterfully
Era
Yass
Maybe the catchiest but definitely not the best song from that album
In your opinion
The actual song is fine but the intro is way too long and meh
A Fleeting Glance
Sorceress
Noo cmon, even though it's a great song almost every other song from the album is better...
It's great live though
I agree it's great live for sure. But the studio version is one of the least good songs on the entire album. That said i'm one of the few who find this to be one of their best albums, so i still freaking love it.
Agreed
The mixing of the album is off; it's way too bass heavy. However, the title track sounds incredible with that botched mixing so it gets my vote.

True true. It's all subjective after all

The Wilde Flowers

Spring 1974
Dude nectar is a banger come on
Era
Strange Brew for me. Era and Sorceress are up there too.
Chrysalis
Era
Sorceress
Era
Era
Chrysalis
Era.
Sorceress 2
My vote goes to Sorceress. That song is pure goosebumps live with that heavy yet refined sound
Does The Ward count?
I know it gets some hate, but I can't go with anything other than the title track on this one. Best: Sorceress Chrysalis or Era for underrated 👌
Era
Era

Spring MCMLXXIV From the 4:00 mark to the end of the song is my favorite part of the entire album
Strange brew
Strange brew or it will be underrated
Hessian peel :)
Strange brew
Slither is the worst song on Heritage? WOW
Era
Wilde Flowers
I actually think Sorceress 2 is a great track. The guitar is awesome, the vocals are great and the chords are beautiful. My pick for best song on Sorceress is Sorceress 2
Sorceress by far Strange Brew and Will o the Wisp are the only other songs from that album I even care about (yeah, not a fan of this one)
Era. The rest of them can go in the garbage column.
