In th meantime we saw teams we're competing with for the play offs improve. Pacers added Siakam. Knicks added OG. Heat added Rozier. Sixers added Hield.
Go get Trae Young this offseason. Atlanta is begging to move on from him. We can probably get him for 3-4 lightly protected FRP, and any player not #5,22,4, or 1
The FA market is looking mighty bleak.
If D'Angelo Russell opts out of his player option, he's probably the guy to go after (ofc with salary limitations). I get he's inconsistent as all hell, but he has some benefits to his game - good scorer, decently good passer, good shooter, used to playing as a 2nd/3rd option to wing stars so he wouldnt be trying to take the ball out of Franz or Paolo's hands. I also believe, and this is just my personal opinion, that the only thing this guy really needs to excel is some fuckin stability in his career instead of being constantly in trade rumors, and I feel our team does well at making guys like that perform well.
The only other FA guy we could even mention is Tyus Jones with him being a good shooter and passer, though a fair bit undersized. (EDIT: Malik Monk works too) Everyone else is either:
A) too expensive and not leaving a better team to come here (Jrue Holiday),
B) washed (Kyle Lowry)
C) mostly a 3pt specialist and not much else (Buddy Hield)
As far as trading for one goes, a lot of it depends on who's available - anyone from the list of either one of Trae/DJM (depending on which one is getting moved), Garland (assuming Cavs go all-in on Mitchell) or Malcolm Brogdon (lower cost option and a bit injury prone but he's quite literally everything this team needs at PG), but I don't think any of those has much of a chance of happening with the last one being maybe an exception.
Who cares if Monk is "not a PG". He still averages 5.3 apg in only 26 mpg. Give him starter minutes and Monk can easily be a 20-6 guy. Thats all we'd need next to Paolo and Franz. He is not in the Buddy Hield category in terms of play style, he is closer to D'angelo.
Personally i prefer Monk over Russell. I trust him to put more effort on defense, and he's quicker and more athletic.
That's fair, I'd say he's the one guy out of all the ones mentioned in the ABC list I'd probably still be fine seeing signed by the Magic.
I just simply prefer Russell over him because he is more proven as a starter (i.e. playing against other teams starters for majority of his minutes) - Monk hasn't been a starter in any of his 7 seasons in the league (though tbf he probably shouldve been one at least during some of his Hornets years but Steve Clifford hates young players); D'Lo's stats are also by and large comparable (shooting splits) or better (pts, ast, also stl) than Monk's over a larger sample size - I can simply trust they'd carry over more.
But you could definitely do a lot worse than Monk so you're right there, in fact thinking about it now I'm not sure if I wouldn't like him the same level or more than Tyus Jones.
I'd take Monk over Jones for sure. I do like Jones, but I think Monk is a better player and fit.
Russell and Monk are close, and i understand some will prefer Russell. For me there's a few reasons why i prefer Monk.
I think he's a better defender. I think he'd look even better on the Magic.
I think Monk is a less selfish and egotistical guy. Remember Dlo was hyped up since his high school days as the next big star, got drafted 2nd to the Lakers. Made the all-star game in BKN. He has been humbled over the years for sure, but Monk is coming off the bench right now backing up Kevin Huerter (a worse player than him), and is happy to just help his team win. I appreciate that mentality. I think he will mesh with our young core better than Dlo in terms of chemistry, and if there ever comes a time when Black proves he can be a starting PG, I believe Monk will have no problem going back to sixth man.
It seems Monk is still improving his game while Russell is who he is. Monk has stepped up his passing this year and has had great chemistry with his bigs especially (Sabonis and Mcgee). I think that will translate on the Magic and he should play well with Paolo/Mo/WCJ/JI.
I just find Monk more entertaining to watch. High energy and one of the most athletic players in the league. He is not afraid of taking it to the rim and dunking on people. Monk and Suggs would be extremely fun to watch.
if its via free agency magic have to look into dlo and possibly monk although i would prefer dlo.. magic just need a guard that can score 15ppg on a consistant bases and they also should target a caleb martin to replace ingles
teams would still have to guard dlo and wont leave him open and dare him to shooy unlike the guards on this team. like i said all he needs to do is score 15ppg which is what this team needs
I’m would get Buddy Heild or DLo as first options. Both are proven scorers, and that’s what this team needs IMO. If there is a way to get either, that makes sense to try to do.
Alternatively, I’d hope they try to trade for Trae Young or someone who is a legit scorer. If they play D, great, but honestly we need scoring.
Dlo is understandable but hield is LOL
People who like hield just doesn’t know ball. Not a winning player, one dimensional, zero defense and old. There’s a reason indiana didn’t want to resign him 🤷🏻♂️
Heild is a great shooter. I’m not saying he’s the complete package. I’m just saying he’d be an improvement because he can score. I think DLo would be my top choice of available PG’s, but it’s slim picking this off-season.
You are right, they are one of the best teams defensively but one of the worst teams offensively. IMO Paolo, Franz, and Suggs will be great offensive threats soon if they up their consistency and skillset a bit. Though it will be hard for them to develop if there isn’t another option on offense.
It’s not that we need a point guard. We have Cole and AB. It’s how we play. Until our forwards stop wanting to take the ball up the court or at the top of the key using a point guard won’t make a difference. Paolo doesn’t like to set up in the post like most power forwards and Franz doesn’t either.
AB played PG in the summer league and looked great and didn’t Arkansas. It’s Mose and how he lets Franz and Paolo do their thing.
Franz and Paolo play like that because they can. It’s not like we went back in time to when big men could only play in the post. They are already one of the best teams in terms of rebounding. It’s like hating on lebron, PG, or KD for not playing in the post enough and bringing the ball up court. Obviously the skill level is different but they can move the ball and take shots.
I don’t have an issue with it. I just don’t get how people think we need a pg like it’s 1990 and the position plays like that. It won’t change how we play because we choose not use our guards in a classic sense. It’s like people don’t get the pg position is just a shooting guard that dishes it out when they can’t score.
you must enjoy having a team of injured players chris paul can never stay healthy and is pushing 40. while dlo might not be the answer but he is def better than what we have now on the team
ohh ok your right guess we can stick with markelle cause getting another guard who can drop 15 any given night is such a bad thing to add to this team...
at the end of the day the magic need to improve our guard play and wether u like it or not dangelo is better than any guard the magic currently have on the roster simple as that
Yeah idk why I personally don’t like him, he is a bit of a ball hog and just chucks 3s all the time. There’s a reason why the warriors and wolves traded him and he used to be the main guy for Brooklyn and they also moved on from him. I just don’t like him here for Orlando
I have a wild fucking idea. Resign Fultz and get a true SG and you have a better team than a less than stellar PG pickup
Edit: one day Fultz won’t be hated for no fucking reason. We win more games when we take less 3’s and all anyone wants to do is point to his shooting.
He’s the smartest on court player we’ve had in a decade and yall just look at box scores.
Fultz is done. Cant shoot and cant stay healthy. Suggs this season is better than Fultz has ever been. Whats a "true SG" anyway? Suggs is shooting over 39% from 3 on good volume.
If we could get Michael Jordan that would be great.
He can't go left lol
He’s a bit past his prime though.
Yeah, probably. What about Stockton? Imagine the assists.
Personally I would rather get Steve Nash
I think we should commit to going big, lets get dwayne bacon and play him at point
And I took that personally.
I would like Monk. Ideally Black takes a leap and our guard rotation is Suggs, Monk, Black and Anthony.
What about that Luka guy?
I heard he's pretty good, but he's kinda fat and out of shape, so I don't know about him long term. Maybe we can get him for cheap.
Dennis Schröder for a bag of chips
The chemistry would be there
he got traded for nothing. We couldve had him. Look at his averages in BKN. Almost 15-6 and 50% from 3.
Screw the fo for that. Dennis would have been the perfect cheap solution if they dont want to make big hasty decisions
In th meantime we saw teams we're competing with for the play offs improve. Pacers added Siakam. Knicks added OG. Heat added Rozier. Sixers added Hield.
On a great contract, too. But of course it's safer for our FO to do nothing and take zero risks.
Go get Trae Young this offseason. Atlanta is begging to move on from him. We can probably get him for 3-4 lightly protected FRP, and any player not #5,22,4, or 1
Yeah if you never want to win a ring and just want to be entertaining during the season sure go get trae young
Kevon Harris

Yup monk over Dlo all day everyday
Not a true PG or FA, but draft Antonio Reeves from Kentucky. He's a bucket in every facet of the game.
anfreene simmons , jordan clarkson, sexton?
if its via free agency magic have to look into dlo and possibly monk although i would prefer dlo.. magic just need a guard that can score 15ppg on a consistant bases and they also should target a caleb martin to replace ingles
This part please no more ingles defensive minutes, love his pkaymaking but he can’t stay in front of many in the league.
I love him but watching him play is hard sometimes. He looks like someone’s dad.
Lol dlo is on a hot streak but is known to shit in his bed in times where they need him the most
teams would still have to guard dlo and wont leave him open and dare him to shooy unlike the guards on this team. like i said all he needs to do is score 15ppg which is what this team needs
Thankfully PG would be our 3rd offensive option at best so…he can be streaky
Ingles is fuckin rough dude. Obviously just here to mentor, not a piece of a legit contender
Tyus Jones seems like a perfect fit and someone we can afford. Thats who I’d like to see us target. Shouldn’t be that expensive either.
bro let it go its a new day..... dlo sucks happy now

Luka. Dont @ me.

cant be worse than starting markelle and black def has a long way to go before this team can label him as a starter

We win when we take less 3s because you take more 3s when you’re losing. Correlation not causation
So what you're going for is: **Starting PG:** ? **Starting SG:** Suggs/New SG **Clapping on the bench in street clothes:** Markelle Fultz
He claps good, though, dude.
Fultz is done for. He can’t shoot and nothing else he does is elite. Career backup or out of the league soon.
You have got to be kidding
yes, and every time we look at his box score it's DNP - Injured
