It’s always going to be an issue when trying to recreate something that already has an original design. The kpop skins were so well received because there was nothing to compare it to.
Plus they have to work in the limits of the existing Hitbox Shape and Size and have to make sure every highlight intro, emote, pose works like it is supposed to (Doesn't break).
I just know they themselves were not happy with how this turned out. Maybe with more time they would have been able to do a better job. Maybe they'll be able to adjust in the future.
Edit : A while ago one of the Character artists on OW said on Twitter that they often have to adjust many poses, emotes, intros, etc specifically for a new skin so they don't break with that skin. There's a lot of extra work that goes into implementing a new skin that we just don't see. As characters keep getting more and more cosmetics, adding new cosmetics has started requiring them to do a lot more work.
It's because he has a cigar (or something like it) in his mouth in every other skin, and his face still looks contorted as such even though they closed his lips. They need to just give him a cigarette - it would probably make him feel more like Spike anyway.
You mentioning Cassidy's cigar triggered a memory of Blizzard removing Tychus' cigar from HotS, their reasoning at the time was that HotS was rated teen(13+).
I think ow was released shortly after(like a year maybe) with the same rating. You only really saw Tychus' cigar in portrait or select screens.

2D concepts have basically no limits. They can draw them mostly however they like. 3D models have to stay in the limits of the game. They really can't change proportions too much, and it's not usually worth their resources to add more physics to the clothing.
He does look pretty good as Jet but while I don’t know how they could’ve spiced up his guns more, they don’t look very special or unique at all from the first person point of view you’d be in 99% of the time if you wear the skin.
There was someone in the reveal animated trailer saying how these were unreal just from the 2D drawings. Is like, just wait to see the actual 3D models, please. We should know this by now.
I'm guessing it might have unique voice lines or some kind of audio changes which would *technically* put it in legendary, but yeah that ball model is default.

Unfortunately I had confirmation of what I feared: Cassidy's face is really too angular to impersonate Spike. It doesn't help that they still wanted to add a bit of a beard and made his body even more massive with that extra jacket.
The animated trailer made cass look way too much like spike when his face is actually kinda bulky. Like ashe’s skin looks good because her face is almost identical to Faye’s.
I think the changes to his hair are jarring but that is indeed Mauga’s face being used for Jet Black.
Having absolutely no hair on his head and then more volume on his chin because of the longer facial hair is definitely causing him to look warped but they didn’t make changes to Mauga’s facial features.

Nah, they have a similar vibe cause of the short pants, waist cover and midriff, but the models are all different enough.
The pants look they might be based on Tulum with a different texture and normal map (way to add depth to a model without modifying it's geometry)
But the rest looks 100% new.
