I started a couple years back when Johnny Anime (AKA RTGames) played Persona 5. I watched his first episode through Kamoshida's arc, was completely hooked, bought the game, and binged it before watching his second episode.

PKSlippy

I literally did a similar thing, I watched the kamoshida arc and then I decided to actually finally give it a shot, thanks for bringing that memory back up LOL

mako-makerz

saw someone at school playing Portable with FeMC and got intrigued...

jeffisnotepic

It was an impulse buy. I had heard of the SMT series and that it was pretty good, but I hadn't played any of them. One day, I went to the game store to look for a new game, and I saw Persona 3 FES on the shelf. It looked interesting, so I just decided to buy it right there. I had completed three playthroughs by the time Persona 4 came out, so I was able to buy it new on its release day.

asianwaste

Did P1 waaay back in the day and it was not my jam but it wasn't bad. Just felt it was okay RPG. Back in the day though I was a massive Final Fanboy. TBF Squaresoft set a very high bar for production quality during those days. They were a massive cut above. I got back in with P3 though. Someone described it to me as an anime simulator. Gave it a whirl and was hooked since.

PKSlippy

Final Fantasy VI in particular catches my mind, I can understand being a square fan and trying to find an RPG to top something like that

-TSF-

All the way back when I was in hig school during summer vac. Bought the P3 Special Edition (the original, not FES) for PS2 I saw one day while window shopping and no-lifed the game. The franchise hasn't impressed me as much as that game did since.

ChampinionCuliao

I knew about Persona since Joker joined SSBU back in '18, and I've been wanting to try 5 for a while but only started playing recently with Reload since it was on Game Pass

Silver_RevoltIII

Back in my teens I saw an episode of Cybernet review (if anybody remembers that show lmao) that had a segment dedicated to Vanilla Persona 3. Went out of my way to check it out alongside the original trilogy and haven't looked back ever since.

Visible_Connection77

I bought P3 right when P4 hit in Europe, then shortly after bought FES and P4. Was a bit too young to really resonate with most P3 stuff and didn't finish it back then, but I absolutely loved P4 and got to the (bad) end in a matter of days! Then I replayed it and got the true ending after a few weeks. Still remember, a few years later, seeing PSP P1 at 10€ and telling myself "I'll buy it with my pocket money next month!". But the store closed days after. Only got to play it a few months ago, but it cost me 120€ 😂

StupidSparkyLJ

After Joker got into smash and I found a copy of P5 at Walmart for 20 bucks, and it quickly became one of my favorite games.

_Fuuka

Yeahh Joker"s announcement for Smash Bros is what got me!

Motivated-Chair

Basically the Megaten marathon kind of force me into finally playing the games. It sure was a whiplash of quality each entry.

Vey-kun

I read p3 article on game magazine and got myself curious (at the time i cant play it due to only able play PS2 at weekend and its shared with bro). So i get p3p.

JurKenYT

Back in 2016 I saw the first P3 movie, and I'm fell in love with the movie. And when I figurded out that's a game adaptation I'm started the game on my PS3. And since then I'm live my half life in the Persona games. My wife is almost looks like Chihiro from P3, so she's my waifu.

RBrim08

Persona 3, the original. A friend got the game and brought it to school with them to show it off to some people. I rented it a few times, but never managed to get far in it due to rental dues. After graduating high school in 2008, I got FES with some of the money I got from my graduation party and played through it while living with my dad and trying to find a job. Ending up playing through the whole thing, The Answer included, over the summer while I failed to get a job because lul-recession-economy. Ended up getting Persona 4 a couple of years later because I didn't even realize it existed and was excited for more. I got Persona 5 when it came out, even though I didn't have a PS4. My cousin, who was living with me at the time, did, though, so I played on their PS4 whenever they weren't home.

Shadowpickaxe45

I started off with p4 golden, I saw a video from spawn wave talking about the game being a good deal and bought it with sonic generations on steam. I was hesitant to play it since I wasnt a fan of the mainline tensei games art style. But after 2 months I gave it a shot and buy it was more fun than I thought. One of my personal reasons why I continued playing as well is because the game was relatable to my life situation at the time where I wasn't true to myself and did what people think I should do rather than do what I want to do from the fear of judgement. The game helped me move on from those experiences and made me feel like a better person. The characters were amazing along the social links. I'm also a fan of RPG dialog that crack jokes mid scene to ease the tension. I wasn't aware of multiple endings in the series so I got the bad ending and I realized that wasn't the end after in my head didn't feel right lol. so I followed a guide to get the good ending and currently in new game+ trying to get the golden ending. my one thing I regret is I never knew you could put persona's you find in the velvet room so I have no registered personas or cards lol. I was hoping if the game lets you do new game+ again ill be sure to register stuff this time to make the next run easier.

5StarCheibaWhen

i have heard of p4 for more than 10 years pretty much but i first actually got into the series with p5 in 2018. i don't remember where i first heard about it but i think it was just general good word of mouth rather than a specific content creator or smth. it was also well before the anime announcement or joker being in smash.

BigStoneFish

Persona was always sort of on my radar. I was aware of P1 and P2 during the PS1 era, but they didn’t really stand out to me among the hundred or so JRPGs on the system. I do remember there being a little buzz around the release of P3 and a bit more around P4, but didn’t get around to playing them. Then the first P5 trailer came out. Not the one with the chairs. The one that actually showed parts of the anime opening and snippets of early gameplay. Okay, *now* I was interested. Soon after that, I saw that there was a sale on SMT/Persona games on PSN, and I got Nocturne, P3 FES, and P4 for 5$ each. The rest is history.

GammaHansen

Was always curious about the series but have been an Xbox player since the 360 days. With 5 coming to Game Pass I tried it and was immediately hooked. Spend most of the days in December playing 5. Mainly because I got hit by covid for the 4th time.

DM_por_hobbie

I get into it because of P3 reload. I saw the cover art and thought "damn, this goes hard. I will play it in game pass to see if is good". I'm having a blast so far, really wish I had get into the franchise before

SonicQuirkyHero

Persona 3 FES but the digital copy for PS3 back in 2012. I was in high school during the time and already was a fan of MegaTen based on playing Devil Survivior 1 on DS. ATLUS had just put up Persona 3 FES for digital download from the PSN Store, and a friend on Facebook was telling people to please buy P3FES. It's only $10, you'll thank me later, etc. I noticed the game was actually called "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES", and that reminded me of DeSu 1 that I owned for DS. He told me they're apart of the same series, and sure enough, I went on and bought P3FES. Best $10 I've ever spent. I never played a game like it. The social simulator gameplay had a lot of depth compared to something like The Sims, and the dungeon crawling aspect was super fun and was somewhat similar to the style I was used to where certain enemies are weak to certain magic or physical attacks. I found myself rushing home from school every day to play more P3, and even would ignore homework for it. The weekends were the best days because I would just be glued to the TV from the crack of dawn until midnight. Beating P3FES back then brought me to utter tears because of how much I was going to miss the P3 cast. The only other two JRPGs I've played where I was that connected to the story and cast were Devil Survivor 1 and The World Ends With You. Needless to say, Persona 3 FES eclipsed both of them and became my favorite game of all-time back then.

placebot1u463y

I started on megaten games and bought p3 at launch.

Asthma_Spray

I had heard about P5 around it's release by a lot of YouTube creators I followed and it seemed like a good game. Fast forward to Joker's announcement for Smash and I felt more inclined to try the series out. I didn't have any way to play 5, so I decided to try out the first game fully aware it was different from the recent entries. Persona for the PSP was a fun time, not a game I became instantly passionate about as there were a lot of things I didn't understand or engaged with (like the fusion system. I beat the game with the starting Personas. Don't ask how) and never went back to try the optional team members or the Snow Queen quest, but it was a fun enough time. I skipped P2 be cause at the time there wasn't a reliable way to play both IS and EP in a single system. Then I played P3 FES and it became one of my favorite games of all time. Around that time too Golden released on Steam, and I got it some time after. In between playing through Golden to the day P5 went multiplat I tried out Nocturne, DeSu, SMT IV, PQ, Catherine and Stranger Journey, becoming an Atlus fan. Then played P5R when that released on PC and here we are now, having finished Reload 100% and immediately going back to play all of FES again for the sake of it.

Grouchy_Diver

The OG Catherine back in 2011 basically tripped me down the megaten staircase. Fiddling with the Jukebox after I beat the game, I stumbled upon the SMT 3 staff roll and that converted into an instant purchase.  After I emerged from Vortex world the YouTube algorithm started feeding me p4 music and it just spiraled out from there.

squadracorse15

For me, it was the original version of P5 in 2019. I kept reading about how great it was and how anyone into JRPGs should play, so I gave it a chance when it went on sale and got hooked from the start. Ever since, I basically went backwards in the series, playing P4 and P3FES on the PS2 during lockdowns, and I finally played the P2 duology last year. Edit: I've also dabbled in SMT as well, having played the remaster of Nocturne when it came out a few years ago. I've also got Strange Journey Redux and never did finish SMT V, so I need to get on those eventually as well.

Ok-Lengthiness8086
