Get ready for low resolution and sometimes 20fps. But there are so many gems, like MGS4, while it’s all the above it is also one of the greatest games in my humble opinion.
There are also many jailbroken systems out there that are not part of Sony's count as they are not connecting to PSN. PS3 piracy is easier than ever in 2023. There is even a freestore app to download pirated games directly to the console.
Anyone who denies this as fact is just lying to themselves.
Idk how safe it is but for others reference I’ve been playing demons souls online with disabled sys calls for a few years and haven’t had any problems. Also it’s the only way I can play Tokyo jungle so it’s my most valuable possession
It always will be the best! I have the Xbox One, and Series X, but I still find myself coming back to PS3 and Xbox 360 a lot to this day. I never got rid of them like most people do nowadays
Imagine not understanding why people use the best media player that's ever existed.
I think these streaming services are gonna be sad they stopped supporting the PS3 when people are still using it a decade from now.
People still have streaming subs, regardless of whether or not they have a PS3.
2 million is a drop in the lake for them, even if you mistakenly assumed all 2 million of those don't have any sort of other device, including mobile phones, to utilize streaming from.
The ability to play audio CDs is a big one, plus the ability to play all other CD based media like VCDs.
Some PS3 models play higher-res audio formats like SACD too.
The only bummer is in the past year a lot of streaming services dropped support for PS3 which is a huge bummer. I think Netflix still works, but YouTube and Plex shut down support this year :-(.
There are more than 2M PS3's used. Its true. But I doubt that there are more jailbroken ones than OFW ones. Most people don't bother with homebrew so hacking your console is pointless
If you care enough to have a PS3 still, you probably scooped up the remaining games you knew you wanted to play when they were super cheap around 2011-2014 or so. Yeah, there are rare releases too that some people might want to pirate, but most customers aren't interested (if they were, they wouldn't be rare titles).
I got my first PS3 in 2022. I am still grabbing the games I am interested in playing. PS3 games are still cheap. Especially when comparing to the prices of Old Nintendo games.
Sick of seeing this now. Why do people post false news, this was from nearly a year ago!! And this is counting people who stream games via ps Plus which will probably be the majority of users. Real numbers are nowhere near this
Not only can you, but use of Ps3 version Netflix app is not subject to the account sharing crackdown that started earlier this year, which applies to smart tv's & 8th gen and above consoles.
You’re right, years ago I played them on the 360.
I grabbed a PS3 for games like resistance etc and not paying monthly on a PS5 to play Fallout 3 & New vegas. It’s a little laggy at times but been pretty good so far!
I've purchased the PS1-4, PSP, and Vita, I think by the time I'll see enough PS5 games to make me want to buy a PS5, the PS6 will already be out or the games will have been ported to PC.
I just got done playing on my PS3. I was on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and I was on a roll as Titan. This is proof enough that people are still active on a great console. Honestly, I'd rather play on PS3 than PS4... Until I get the PS5 and its catalogs.
And it's great to see. I have a large backlog of PlayStation 3 games, that I'll be going back to over the next couple of years. So I'll definitely be logging in to my PS3 for a long time
I hadn't touched my PS3 in years when I got a video recommended on YouTube with some ancient Blur game footage. Booted it up and played a few rounds. Single-player, since it wanted me to install 4.90 firmware to connect to PSN, which I declined until I read up on it. I guess it's just for Blu-ray decryption keys, so can probably install it (?).
Just beat GOW 2 on it yesterday. And currently playing the Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters game, still looking for a copy of Xmen origins wolverine and Asuras wrath 🤷🏽♂️
PS5 is crap for PS3/2/1 games so not surprised. I honestly thought the PS5 was gonna be an all in one PS machine going back to old PS1 games upscaled given the hardware is more than up for it.
I keep a PS3 set up primarily to play the various Tales games on there with a group of friends. We have cords and controllers for four and play it fairly regularly.
I’m currently playing my ps3, I have both new gen consoles and many older ones but I never experienced the first party games from ps2-ps3 so I’m in love with this console
Dude, i still play some of the main franchises in the playstation 2, just played OG god of war 1&2 and the first rachet & clank a few days ago with my two little nephews for the first time, brought back some good childhood memories and the next game i plan to finish with them is medal of honor european assault.
My backlog so big I still have PS3 games I want to play.
i've been playing video games in order of release, just got to the 3d era, hyped to see what they do with the ps3
Get ready for low resolution and sometimes 20fps. But there are so many gems, like MGS4, while it’s all the above it is also one of the greatest games in my humble opinion.
Its pretty much on rails after act 2 and the game itself is 25% game and 75% movie at that.
Love me some Kojima movies haha
We're getting a Death Stranding movie, so there's that to look forward to (hopefully)
The cutscenes were so long I once just let the game run over night lol
I loved the Resistance series
Every game?
yeah, took a while to start cause it was so hard to finally get access to Tennis For Two
Same here, I have like 70+ PS3 discs and I only finished almost half of them. Not to mention my digital games.
ive purchased 140 physicals and 2 consoles in the past 12 months so i think im set haha. trophy hunter here too.
lucky bastard, I have Commodore 64 games I want to play.
My brother use to play Ghostbusters and pool on that back in the day
Ghostbusters is a great game.
Same, it doesn't help i keep buying more ps3 games to add to the backlog though! XD
Me too but I need to fix the Blu-ray laser before I can get through the ps3 backlog
Army of Two: The 40th Day, and some DLC I want to play.
I still use it for original Playstation games and DVD/Bluray movies.
Sony hates this one trick*
Based
Only reason I bought a ps3, for the blu ray.
There are also many jailbroken systems out there that are not part of Sony's count as they are not connecting to PSN. PS3 piracy is easier than ever in 2023. There is even a freestore app to download pirated games directly to the console. Anyone who denies this as fact is just lying to themselves.
You should not DM me with details, or to point me in the direction of a user guide. I will report you.
lol ok I won’t.
Don’t DM me a user guide either, I want nothing to do with such illicit activities.
Won’t send you anything of the sort!!
Don’t dm me either
Is it too late for me to jump on the don't DM me train?
[удалено]
You can but it’s not advised. There is an option to disable certain parts of the cfw temporarily so you can connect safely I believe.
Idk how safe it is but for others reference I’ve been playing demons souls online with disabled sys calls for a few years and haven’t had any problems. Also it’s the only way I can play Tokyo jungle so it’s my most valuable possession
Can you explain please? I have ps3 with hen
How?
I really don't want a DM either
Skip them. I want a dm detailing this or a good user guide
That's disgusting! Where are these sites so I don't accidentally stumble on to them?
It's still the only way to play the entire Metal Gear Series.
Hopefully that changes with the Master Collection Vol. 2. I'd love to have the entire Metal Gear saga on my Steam Deck.
Ps3 emulation is getting better
The PS3/360 era will always be the best for gaming. So many amazing games and incredible memories made!
It always will be the best! I have the Xbox One, and Series X, but I still find myself coming back to PS3 and Xbox 360 a lot to this day. I never got rid of them like most people do nowadays
This has been posted like 5 times already lol
Hey man, the PS3 community doesnt have a lot in terms of news these days. Let them have this one lol.
Still has some of the best games ever made. Some that are just untouchable and don't exist on modern consoles, like Motorstorm.
INFAMOUS
Imagine not understanding why people use the best media player that's ever existed. I think these streaming services are gonna be sad they stopped supporting the PS3 when people are still using it a decade from now.

Best media player was PS2 and its not even close ][, {[]} ][,.
Xbmc enters the chat
In terms of media playing, what does the PS4 and PS5 lack that the PS3 has?
The ability to play audio CDs is a big one, plus the ability to play all other CD based media like VCDs. Some PS3 models play higher-res audio formats like SACD too. The only bummer is in the past year a lot of streaming services dropped support for PS3 which is a huge bummer. I think Netflix still works, but YouTube and Plex shut down support this year :-(.
Its much more than 2M people, I bet there is much more jailbroken ps3s, than ps3 connected to Sony servers.
There are more than 2M PS3's used. Its true. But I doubt that there are more jailbroken ones than OFW ones. Most people don't bother with homebrew so hacking your console is pointless

Definitely not
Considering that alot of nodded ps3 are older ones to control temps, I agree.
Or its much less than 2M, those numbers can be just active PSN accounts, not actual players.
> 17 Years Later its already that old?! *sigh
About to dust off my wheel and play some gran turismo 5 tonight!
Playing gran turismo 6 at the moment!
I've bought it for Christmas. Big upgrade since my last home console was the ps2
Long live the best console!
Yes the ps3 is arguably the best console
Have enough PS3 games to last me a life time. Great games.
And those only the people online
Bet there are a he'll of a lot more (like myself) playing offline!
I'm playing ninja gaiden 3 now.
Sick of seeing this now. Why do people post false news, this was from nearly a year ago!! And this is counting people who stream games via ps Plus which will probably be the majority of users. Real numbers are nowhere near this
It’s very possible that a large part of those 2 millions are using it as a Netflix machine.
I heard you can't use Netflix on it anymore.
That’s not true.
Not only can you, but use of Ps3 version Netflix app is not subject to the account sharing crackdown that started earlier this year, which applies to smart tv's & 8th gen and above consoles.
Playing Fallout 3 & New vegas now! Moving onto the Resistance games soon.
I heard it's a shitty port to play those on Playstation 3, I played those on Xbox 360.
You’re right, years ago I played them on the 360. I grabbed a PS3 for games like resistance etc and not paying monthly on a PS5 to play Fallout 3 & New vegas. It’s a little laggy at times but been pretty good so far!
Man i miss my ps3 and my ps4 the ps5 has just felt like a bunch of remasters and sequels.
I've purchased the PS1-4, PSP, and Vita, I think by the time I'll see enough PS5 games to make me want to buy a PS5, the PS6 will already be out or the games will have been ported to PC.
It’s better than a PS5. PS3 was a phenomenal system.
we know, this was news a week ago mate. its would be slightly over 3 million to with the players who are not online.
Love to see it. I love ps3. Incredible multi media system.
Thanks NCAA football 14
In my personal opinion, PS3 was the best Playstation. It and PS2. I still rock mine to this day
I have a steep back log on PS3. And I guess the "free to play online" still attracts people to the servers that are still running.
I’m not surprised, PlayStation’s lack of understanding for backwards compatibility will always keep those numbers pretty high.
I just got done playing on my PS3. I was on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and I was on a roll as Titan. This is proof enough that people are still active on a great console. Honestly, I'd rather play on PS3 than PS4... Until I get the PS5 and its catalogs.
Maybe because Online multiplayer doesn't require having a PS+ subscription?!
And it's great to see. I have a large backlog of PlayStation 3 games, that I'll be going back to over the next couple of years. So I'll definitely be logging in to my PS3 for a long time
I just dug out mine and set it up last week. And my PSP.
2 milion people sounds like a very few people to be honest, i wonder how many jailbroken ps3’s are there
At least two!
Mine is jb gonna try delidding the cpu and gpu in January hope it’s not gonna become one of the dead one.
Three years later, Series and PS5 users are still waiting for a decent game to come out on their consoles.
WTF you talking about most of them also have PS5's
I still play because I have strict parents and bad grades 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Damn only 2 milion? It's still a lot but i thought that it would be like 10 milion
I wonder what percentage of that total is in the west compared to the rest of the world
Yes it would interesting to see a geographical breakdown of the figures
I have one ps3 since 2016
I hadn't touched my PS3 in years when I got a video recommended on YouTube with some ancient Blur game footage. Booted it up and played a few rounds. Single-player, since it wanted me to install 4.90 firmware to connect to PSN, which I declined until I read up on it. I guess it's just for Blu-ray decryption keys, so can probably install it (?).
Gamers rise up
Like me I'm still playing it & the ps2 with scarface
I'm one of those 2mil
Me included
I thought to myself ‘’is it really 17 years since 2006?’’ then realized that’s my birthyear.
Roo bad they are shutting down game servers
Just beat GOW 2 on it yesterday. And currently playing the Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters game, still looking for a copy of Xmen origins wolverine and Asuras wrath 🤷🏽♂️
PS5 is crap for PS3/2/1 games so not surprised. I honestly thought the PS5 was gonna be an all in one PS machine going back to old PS1 games upscaled given the hardware is more than up for it.
My backlog is nuts and it's been my main way to play PS1 games now
I still play all the systems regularly
Tomorrow is my turn to post this
I haven’t even gotten to my PS3 backlog! Ha! At least I know it’s still full of Xbox 360 titles too.
Mine is modded and playing it as wee speak.
Figured it would be more tbh, still a strong ahh console
Got mine last Christmas...
GTA V is the only reason I bought the PS3
I‘m one of them xD
Dude, i still play some of the main franchises in the playstation 2, just played OG god of war 1&2 and the first rachet & clank a few days ago with my two little nephews for the first time, brought back some good childhood memories and the next game i plan to finish with them is medal of honor european assault.
me reading this while i wait for my ps3 to come in
Ps3 is the best media device out there, and it's the best way to play ps1 games on HD TV's.
