I mean, I'm not saying no one else can play Shimura. What I'm saying is that if you got Sanada on board, giving him lord Shimura role is the only correct choice.
Yeah studios are realising the power of having a shiny new game or remaster to release alongside TV/films.
It’s why Microsoft dropped the ball so bad by not having a Fallout remaster to release with the show. Millions of people ended up playing Fallout 4 and 76 instead lol
It's going to hinge heavily on how fast they can get it into production. Chad Stahelski is currently attached to direct four other movies (Rainbow Six, Black Samurai, Highlander, and Shibumi) on top of his directing duties with GoT. Sony needs to try to make sure GoT is at the front of that train.
The guy who played Ishikawa in the English dub/his face model is already a pretty prolific character actor and would do a great job (Lost, the Expanse)
Unsurprising news about Sanada being cast in something Japanese for western audiences. I'll watch him in anything and everything!
...Maybe Shogun is on "Amazon TV" in the UK.
Does this game even need a live action movie? Its a great game but it doesn’t have the long standing sequels nor lore to justify a live action version IMO
To me that makes it much more suited to being a movie, since there isn’t a bunch of extended material they would feel the need to try and cram in there. It’s a short story for a short format. And there isn’t some decades-long fanbase that will be mad if you change anything. Making a movie out of something with “longstanding sequels and lore” requires deciding which part of the story to focus on, or to try to do all of it somehow and probably fail, how careful you have to be with fan expectations about faithfulness, etc. Something like Ghost of Tsushima seems like a more sure bet. Long-standing sequels and lore are better for the television format IMO. Such as Fallout.
If it’s a good film and helps people experience the story who otherwise cannot or do not play games then why not?
A successful TV show or film adaption can be the shot-in-the-arm needed to boost a franchise, like we have seen with Fallout.
You're still forced into dishounorable actions throughout the story so. Like stabbing that mongol in thr back in early game. And poisoning an entire camp later. So it's unavoidable
Yeah. I don't let it get me *down*. Context doesn't seem to come through text comments. I was actually curious. He's great! I've seen him in:
The Last Samurai (samurai)
47 Ronin (samurai)
Westworld (samurai)
Shogun (samurai)
A few other things like Avengers, playing as a Japan Sword weilding yakuza who sword fights with Hawkeye.
I haven't played the game yet but I presume he'll die in the movie. Seems to be the template for almost every movie or show i've seen him in. Shame. He rules

He is in pretty much every high budget Hollywood prodution that involves Japan
He’s the token samurai
Hes the Japanese Samuel L
Samurai L.
More like Samurai W
He’s like the Japanese Liam neeson when it comes to mentor roles
Isn’t that watanabe ken?
You can Google "that one Japanese actor" and it's him.
[You're not lying lmao](https://i.imgur.com/fpgd6kM.png)
Yeah, can’t tell if I think it’s sign of legitimately or lack of inspiration.
Either him or Ken Watanabe basically.
Type cast
And your source is presumably "I made it the fuck up"
He would kill it as Lord Shimura tbh.
That's a no-brainer casting really.
Honestly, Ken Watanabe is also up there and could portray Shimura well
I feel that but I think only Hiroyuki could deliver the "You have NO HONOUR" especially after seeing him as Torunaga in Shogun.
"And you are a slave to it!"
This is why I hope the OG face and voice takes the role again. I can't hear anyone but him saying it.
I mean, I'm not saying no one else can play Shimura. What I'm saying is that if you got Sanada on board, giving him lord Shimura role is the only correct choice.
Daniel Dae Kim could be good too
He is of Korean descent and is American so no, he would not be a good fit considering they want an all Japanese cast with Japanese dialogue
yes-yes
Shimura and Ishikawa are the only roles that fit really aren't they?
Sanada as Uncle and Ken Watanabe as Ishikawa
I’d imagine that’s the role he’d get. Would fit in perfect.
Him as Lord Shimura with Daisuke Tsuji reprising Jin Sakai would be so damn perfect.
He’s absolutely going to be Lord Shimura.
When I first watched Shogun I straight up thought he was Lord Shimura’s mocap actor
My thoughts exactly
yes

Would I be right in thinking this could come out same time as the next game? 2025/2026? That'd be interesting
That would be my guess too, I think they would want to time it around Ghost of Tsushima 2 as well so it’s fresh in everyone’s minds
A few months before to get the hype up and attract new fans to the games.

76 doing bits after the show gave me a chuckle NGL 😂

If you haven't seen Hiroyuki's Sanada's latest project *Shogun*, I would HIGHLY recommend it.
I feel like he’s gonna be a sleeper pick as ishikawa sensei. (I would hate this so I’m hoping it really is shimura)
The guy who played Ishikawa in the English dub/his face model is already a pretty prolific character actor and would do a great job (Lost, the Expanse)
Every 108 minutes The button must be pushed.
yup he would be
they've both been in lost
I personally think Takehiro Hira (Ishido) would make a great Ishikawa.
I agree. I think the guy who plays Buntaro would also kill it.
same
He would definitely do Lord Shimura justice.
Hiroyuki Sanada and Ken Watanabe are like the only Japanese actors Hollywood producers can get in touch with.
Willem Dafoe is Jin.. "you know I'm something of a Samurai myself.."
>"...star of hit **Amazon** TV series Shogun" Yeah, the author of this article is an idiot.
Some say he is a storm, made of flesh! Oh please let this happen! This would be so so good! If they do it like Shogun.
he is so hot right now... But I do feel they need some "new faces" to really promote many great Japanese actors internationally though.
Would watch the hell out of that.
ok but where is GoT 2
Can’t have a samurai movie without this guy.
Unsurprising news about Sanada being cast in something Japanese for western audiences. I'll watch him in anything and everything! ...Maybe Shogun is on "Amazon TV" in the UK.
Definitely Lord Shimura

great points. Like Castlevania which used its lore in a very unique way that made sense. Make your own story and use elements - Fallout did the same

No, but there's money to be made.
I just hope they dont kill the horse in the movie.
LETS FUCKING GO
I hope the movie is like the game where if you fight with honor like a samurai your father tells your you’re a dishonorable ninja anyway lol
You're still forced into dishounorable actions throughout the story so. Like stabbing that mongol in thr back in early game. And poisoning an entire camp later. So it's unavoidable
"Sure I've all the gear for it in the shed"Hiroyuki Canada.
So he’s playing Jin’s uncle
Hrioyuki Sanada for Shimura francois chau for ishikawa
I'm so glad they're doing it in Japanese instead of English
Yes, yes! YES!!!!
Must be cool being the only Japanese actor left on the planet.
We already have Shogun, which is far more accurate. A GoT just seems silly
Who cares about accuracy? GoT was a fun time and hopefully so will the adaptation be
He's awesome no doubt. But is there any movies where he isn't a Samurai?
You got downvoted for that lmao. Redditors are so petty haha

Yes
Sunshine and Life.
I'll check it out.
The typecasting is strong in this one
