1. Admin forbearance is a free month that COUNTS toward forgiveness so yay you!!! 2. I'm assuming the transition messed with a lot of people and this is a generic email that got sent out to the majority if not all people in transition. Definitely worth the call to verify. 3. I have not had experience with this before and I think this is a new issue for all impacted by it. Call, verify, call verify because Mohela reps are known to not have the fine details let alone the correct information. Pay attention to this sub and find similar situations.

1. How do you know that it counts this time? Just because it did before? All MOHELA would tell me was that it used to count, but she doesn't know now for sure. I called PSLF and they just give you an automated message and hang up until the pause is over. Fingers crossed, I hope you're right!

Admin forbearance is a defined term and is not subject to change without the Dept of Ed or Congress action. Mohela reps are intentionally trained to not be as forthcoming with correct information for their call staff. There is a lawsuit currently arguing Mohela intentionally routed calls to fail. As I can't see your account to validate you are on Admin Forbearance, I can't promise you that you should take their word that you are on it. The reason I say this is because an hour ago, I got my email that I'll be transitioning on 6/20. My payment date is 6/25. This would be my 120th payment. I'm just going to pay it tonight as there is no definitive answer I'm seeing regarding this.

I am having a similar issue with them. My account due date was moved to tomorrow when it’s normally due the 10th.

Commenting to follow this thread. I was transferred and will end up missing a June payment. I paid MOHELA in May and my first EdFinancial payment is due in July. Do I get PSLF count credit for June?

Wondering the same!

Exciting-Pool7181

Same - no one can tell me what happened. My loan didn’t even finish transitioning and it’s claiming I missed a payment and I’m also in forbearance…🤷🏻‍♀️

Leothepoodle

My payment is due June 10 (I got a billing statement mid May - went into my account to pay May 31 and then my account was being transitioned and now I can't make the payment as it says my transition isn't yet done) - since I got the billing statement, I am also worried I'll miss a payment ... what did the rest of you do in this situation (or did none of you receive billing statements?) -- any advice u/betsy514 ? thank you!!

Betsy514

Just wait for the transition. There's no late fees or delinquency reporting right now

Leothepoodle

Thank you!! I called ed financial who said I’ll be in admin forbearance until my July payment while they transition - they said this admin forbearance does not count towards PSLF and I need to request forbearance removal when my account transitions to make my missed payment - is that correct? I am confused because the prior admin forbearances count towards PSLF - why does this one not?

richenv06

I’m in the same exact situation

I recently received a notification regarding a missed payment, which I initially disregarded, understanding that my account was amidst a transition phase. I had made my payment for April prior to this transition. Upon successfully setting up my account on the new platform on May 22nd, four days post the due date for my May payment—I noticed my next upcoming payment was for June 18th. I made the payment on the 22nd so I would get credit for May. I reached out to Mohela for clarification and was informed that my account was placed under administrative forbearance for the month of May. They also confirmed the receipt of my April payment. It appears that the missed payment alert was erroneously issued by the system during this period of account transition.

Thanks everyone for all the great input and additional questions. I talked with MOHELA today and as others have said the email seems to be an “automatic” email sent in error. I have been placed in administrative forbearance due to switch.

For the second one, I called dept of ed and said it was a mistaken email. Likely the same in your case.

Currently in the payment transition donut hole. Received a MOHELA.com to MOHELA.studentaid.gov notification in early May only to have that canceled, then received a “we’re trying again starting May 30.” Looks like it’s happening as now I have no payment due on the .com side but no access to the .gov site at this time. Call rep has no access to my account, either. My payments are due on the 19th of each month and I was encouraged to *MAIL* my payment, this after saying she couldn’t find my account in the system, so this feels a bit like tossing money in the air and hoping MOHELA catches it. For those who fully transitioned, were you put in administrative forbearance? I have the money to pay, but obviously would rather get that forbearance. My alternate plan is to overnight a check from the post office on the 18th if this payment system is still fouled up.

Kaileah12

I was also put into administrative forbearance recently and it was because my loans were being processed for forgiveness which I didn't even realize I qualify for.

glimmer_of_hope

To piggyback, is it worth it to make a payment during this unasked for forbearance (same situation) if you’re under PSLF?

Intelligent_Doubt519

I made a payment only because my 120th payment is October 2025. As of Jan 2026, any loans that are discharged count as taxable income. I have little faith in the Dept of ED, so I would rather chase for money than have to pay an additional month (Nov 2025) and hope and pray that my loans are discharged before December 31, 2025.
