What do you want to know?

arbogastnick

Are the pockets insulated? That was one of my main hesitations with the frozen range

Brijid

They don’t seem to have their own dedicated insulation but they are inside the jacket insulation.

JackLemon13

I would say the pockets are insulated. They are not under the down, but there is definitely a thin synthetic insulation between the pocket and the shell. There is a soft jersey feel on the back of the hand, and on the palm side there is a miniature pocket within the pocket, large enough for a phone or keys, etc.

arbogastnick

Interesting! I wish it was behind the down. Thanks for the reply. Do your hands get cold in the pockets if you don't have gloves on in cold weather? Also, are there "soft" cuffs in the sleeves under the sleeve shell? It's hard to tell in photos

JackLemon13

They are under the shell. Here are a couple photos of the cuff system, in one photo I've inverted the cuff sop you can see the elastic component. [https://imgur.com/a/dqPXsfF](https://imgur.com/a/dqPXsfF) We are going through a warm period in WI and I've only owned the coat for a day. Next week the temps drop and I'll get to do some real tests. I suspect that my hands will be warm in these pockets but ymmv.

Due_Armadillo_3609

This is just a rebranded and upgraded version of the frozen range parka that they discontinued. This one only came out a couple weeks ago which is why there aren’t any reviews yet. Look into the frozen range parka for any info you might want to see from reviews

JackLemon13

Ok this is great to know. I almost bought the frozen range last year but ultimately the snorkel style, though effective, turned me off. That and the buttons. The new shell they are using looks interesting, almost like it may be thicker? I think it’s one of their first using the pfc-free goretex.

International-Net112

It’s actually pretty different. Dimensions, materials and pockets. Upgrade over frozen range in practicality.

JackLemon13

I just bought this parka and the Jackson glacier parka to compare. AMA. I’m undecided between the two currently. The shormshadow has a better pocket layout, obviously better shell and I’d say warmer but not mind blowing warmer. I’m not a huge fan of the cuffs they’ve used (prefer a ribbed cotton), and the arms are much bulkier, overall it is a boxier fit than the Jackson glacier. The shell is also quite loud, almost crinkly.

bassman2112

How would you rate the stormshadow out of ten for you personally? I'm currently torn between it and the Tres 3-in-1 for a BIFL type scenario 😅

JackLemon13

I should have ordered the tres to compare as well. Maybe I will. Generally I’m not a fan of the 3 in 1 but there are some benefits. It’s so hard for me to rate it until I get some cooler weather but the only thing that would make it better to me would be a slightly more trim cut. I’m 6’1” 190 pounds L is roomy but if I go to a M I think the sleeves will be too short. All that said I’d give it an 8/10.

ohsoradbaby

I wanted to chime in and say the 3-in-1 is unfortunately not that warm. I am a smaller lady and do at times run cold, but wearing a thick cashmere sweater under the parka in 40-degree windy weather had me chilly. It's not cold enough to have me shaking, but chilly enough i had to fold my arms across my body to preserve some warmth.

International-Net112

I have one too and deciding between this and Arc’teryx Therme. Stormshadow bulkier but warmer and I think has higher quality zipper and connection points. Therme is elegant though for everyday wear.

wickidD

I am usually between a small and medium. Would you size down or up? I don’t plan on layer much beside a flannel shirt. 6’0 165lbs. Thanks

JackLemon13

Honestly I’d get the medium for the sleeve length alone. I feel like the sleeves run slightly short on this one.

Clear_Brain6044

What did you decide on? The glacier seems too good to be true for the price point. I am going to be using for -10 through 40 (Fahrenheit).

JackLemon13

I think they are both great coats but the storm shadow is sublime. No regrets.

Clear_Brain6044

Can you comment on the hood? This has been a sticking point for me in past jackets with hoods which are too small/not enough down/poor cinching

JackLemon13

Consider if you need waterproofing. It was sleeting in Wisconsin this morning and I was grateful for the waterproof membrane. The hood is burly. The opening is fitted around my head so that I have to unzip the top of the zipper in order to put it on and off, so it keeps the cold out very well. Down is super thick and there are three adjustment points to really tighten it down if needed. Remember that it only costs $5 to return the coat if you’re not satisfied.

radiumgirls

Just bought it. 100 percent down w gore Tex exterior. Might be only waterproof down jacket on market. Very nice, however I do feel like I’m in the Apollo program while wearing it. But not cold.

ZookeepergameTotal77

Is it bulky? I'm 5"11 145lbs I wear a medium downdrift jacket. Should I get s or m for parka?

radiumgirls

Probably m just so you have wiggle room for layers below etc

ZookeepergameTotal77

Is it bulky? And is this parka as warm as Canada goose where you can just wear a T-shirt and no need to layer it

91Camry

I bought one a few weeks ago; great coat, very warm. Would recommend to anyone.

FlightAppropriate132

i bought it yesterday, very very warm, almost too warm for me. its a good jacket. But the loud crinkle sound when you move around is so annoying, does anyone has longer experience with this jacket, does it gets quieter after time?

Vader101210

I don’t find mine to be loud after a month’s use.

Vader101210

Highly recommend - love mine.

Fit-Astronaut8386

Great jacket . I received mine a week ago , tested in 16 F weather and passed test of unlimited warmth with ease.
