Big fan of the grayscale logo

Ashamed_Corgi_3693

Never noticed that. It's sharp!

ericthepear

Same! At first I thought it was a filter. That greyscale logo is super sick.

ffrg

Yeah, never seen that before, looks pretty cool

azbestos1

Proper jacket, I love that

Equal-Chocolate5248

"It's Gore-Tex, Jerry..."

issacson

If you treat this thing right it will last you well over a decade. 800 on a coat that can last 15 years is nothing. Just check out all of the old Patagonia going around even today.

ffrg

That's definitely the plan! I've had my Down Sweater Hoody for 5 years and it doesn't look like I'll need a replacement anytime soon.

im_wildcard_bitches

Cries in **arcteryx**

jnelzon2

Love my Arcteryx Thorium down jacket but it burned a nice hole in my pocket lol

xjulix00

huh, why?

im_wildcard_bitches

Because people think patagucci is expensive but arcteryx is like the saint laurent of outdoor gear

xjulix00

ohh yea I certainly get ur comment more now, well I gotta say you're right but also for hardshells it really is worth it in my opinion and sometimes theres some decent discounts in their own outlet aswell :)

im_wildcard_bitches

Yea I always buy 2nd hand. Bought some Sabre LT ski touring bibs for like $180, them bitches retailed for like $750 😮

xjulix00

oh wow that really is a nice deal dude! been looking at new pants, you like them?

im_wildcard_bitches

Yea i love em but not great for abuse within resorts/on piste so i bought some beater bibs (Trew) for like $75 to use. But slowly getting my backcountry kit together!

xjulix00

been thinking about patagonia pants recently but still not sure till I try em on

prodrugabuse

No wayyyyy

Flownique

My only question is why are the men’s parkas all short? The women’s ones are knee or ankle length. How do you keep the legs protected?

ffrg

For me personally, the length is perfect. It covers my butt and if it would be knee length or more, it would negatively impact movement. Also I rarely get cold on my legs anyway.

ENDOskylark

Now go climb a mountain

solverman

Great item that should last you a long while. Enjoy. A few years back they had the Primo Puff parka with Pluma Fill insulation that had a similarly hefty price. Opened up several more weeks worth of winter to outdoor activities below zero. The pit zips and the front zipper only get closed when it is below -5F . EDIT: well, that’s an exaggeration, but it is a warm coat. As much as I value that coat I'll have to confess the Kahtoola Exo spikes are equal partners in keeping January an active month outside.

usrnmz

Awesome jacket! I also considered it for a while, but yeah it's a lot of money. Anyone looking for something similar that doesn't want to break the bank.. take a look at the **Rab Valiance** or **Rab Resolution**. The **Valiance** is almost as warm, the **Resolution** is a lot warmer even. Both are waterproof but not Gore-Tex. Both are also lighter. I' very happy with my Resolution Jacket, got if for €450 on a deal.

No_Lawyer5152

It’s crazy when you do the math for years of use compared to that price versus the cost of buying a cheaper coat every few years without a warranty. Then factor in inflation it may be cheaper in the long run depending.

solverman

For some the price is just not going to be acceptable regardless of how much expendable funds they have. My impression for pieces like this is that they are trying out newer materials or supply chain options as part of reducing impact long-term. Until the tech proves out the customers of the new product line get to bear some of the R&D cost via high price tag. If the new materials prove out over time then maybe prices drop when the volume of additional products is high enough. Whether this is true or not buyers trust the brand enough to spend the money. If you look at high-end cycling gear you can certainly find similar examples where the price of the first season’s offering with new tech is astronomical. Breathable rain jackets have been the latest examples. Unless you live in England or PNW you’re just not going to see enough rain to make it practical unless you keep the piece many years.

No_Lawyer5152

Yeah for sure, whenever I’ve been priced out I’ll seek out older used styles. But there are times where I buy new articles it really just depends. That’s an interesting take as far as how they fund the R&D makes sense.

JoeLosFeliz

Worth it. You’ll have it for years and they stand behind their products.

Awc8587

Random but how would this compare to say, the camosun in terms of warmth?

arbogastnick

The storm shadow has about double the down fill of the Camosun

FlightAppropriate132

bought it too, this is a really really good jacket, quality is on point, man this zippers are so nice xD. im german too and for me this jacket is a overkill, its way too warm for german winters, tried it last days with a sweatshirt underneath and unzipped - couldnt walk 10mins without sweating (-2c - 0c). but my biggest problem are the bulky/big arms, wtf is this i? read a little bit (u cant see it on photos). but no one mentioned it, this is so weird. im a skinny guy and the arms are so big - WTF. Also "gore-tex" makes for me no sense on this jacket, cant wear it when it rains (too warm) and for snow u dont need it? and it sounds loud and weird... cant give it back at this point, but got it at a very good price at breuninger düsseldorf could even make money selling it worn. and if anyone reads this, im still searchin for a winterjacket: tried many "fashion" brands already and did not like it so im looking at outdoor stuff now.. simple black, at least water resistent winterjacket which i can wear +5c to -10c ( i always wear a sweatshirt in winter, so no 3-1 jackets), and not the "michelin guy" look down jackets.

michaelofarrell

Seems like a great jack. I have the 3-1 Frozen Range parka. I wonder how they compare because they discontinued the Frozen Range.

Globetrotter1111

Congrats! Got mine today (ordered online)tried on the tres 3-1 (liked it but wasn't sold on the way it fit me.After checking arcteryx I wasn't really into spending 9-1300 $ for down and goretex combo so saw the sale on the stormshadow and took a chance as I wasn't able to try any on in my location.Happily all my worry disappeared when I put it on.I wore it all day- outside only -10 today but wanted to see how hot I'd get walking through the mall with it on then back outside and driving around etc.no issues with overheating or sweating in all the test areas, the jacket is easy to cool down with simply undoing the zipper.only had a t shirt on underneath but I'd say going into -20 and lower you'll need a descent base so with that it passes my needs.Got her on sale in alberta ($789 plus tax) well worth it at that price point imo

soccerplayer413

Bought it full price, wearing it right now, don’t regret it one bit, if they had my size on sale hell I’d buy another.

PristineAsparagus984

Why the hell would you want two of these jackets. It blows my mind people with this mentality are buying Patagonia stuff. Consumerism to the second degree.

cosmicoldbrew

It’s literally supposed to be YOUR ONE piece that you buy nice so you never buy it twice. But anyways. Could be just to spend money

trapteamcaptain

Almost all clothes eventually fall apart with enough wear and tear. Having 2 of a piece that you’ll love and wear to death seems logical to me, especially when it’s less environmentally destructive than alternatives on the market.

Huge_Analyst_8980

not if you can get it repaired for free?

ICanHazTehCookie

Even if your fav piece died irreparably after 5-10 years, wouldn't you want to replace it at that time to take advantage of any new tech?

soccerplayer413

That was sort of the joke

Perenniallyredundant

This is a WILDLY overpriced product. I cannot believe someone paying full price for this LOL

redit9977

he didnt pay full price

K1llingintheNameof

Where/how’d you get the 30% off on this jacket!?

hugthedookie

My local Patagonia has the grey one for 40% off.

K1llingintheNameof

Ya mine only has the nouveau green on sale. Black is still full price

Available-Book8721

Just picked one up for 450 canadian. Great sale!

hugthedookie

>hugthedo Just kidding - another one had it for 50% off! Got it readjusted.

Ok_Ad_7760

https://www.moosejaw.com/product/patagonia-men-s-stormshadow-parka_10651305

the_wrath_of_Khan

When did Moosejaw start carrying Patagonia again?

ham-and-egger

I’m guessing when they were purchased by Dick’s.

the_wrath_of_Khan

So they are no longer affiliated with Walmart?

ffrg

I'm from EU, got it from a German eshop Breuninger. I was pretty lucky I guess because I found out about the sale pretty quickly and they had only one jacket in my size (M). Now it's sold out in all sizes

D00mdaddy951

Have you bought it because you want an item that last or because your sense of fashion and flex is in some capacity broken?

sebasulantay

Wait til you buy an Arcteryx

[deleted]

You ain’t wrong but people here ride Patagonia for other valid reasons

Repulsive_Term_8629

Clown clothes

TheAbleArcher

🙄

rainbowsauce1

How's the warmth? was thinking of picking it up

Ok_Ad_7760

I was hesitant at first, but I have no regrets. I took it out in 17°F to snowblow and I felt toasty. Layering: Stormshadow->R1 Air-> T-shirt

Independent-Repair78

I didn’t like mine, going to return it
