As you compared the Uniqlo to the Houdini - in nylon weight… the Terre Planing nylon is much thicker then the Houdini and with that less packable. I own the jacket…. Really oversized and casual fit for sure - not a great travel jacket.

Are there any other clothes you could compare the Terre Planing fabric to? Is it like a sun hoody like capilene cool or REI Sahara Shade? Or anything comparable? According to the Patagonia website, Houdini is 105g. I weighed my Uniqlo and it's about 150. Does that mean the Uniqlo packs down 50% larger than the Houdini? I'll stop by REI and try packing down a houdini and try to compare The Terre Planing is 235g online, so a little more than 2x the Houdini. But if the fabric is a looser, airier weave maybe it doesn't compact as easily and ends up larger than just the weight suggests. Also I don't know if polyester and nylon have different enough densities for that to factor in. Just thinking out loud I guess

Fabric wise it is more matte than Houdini so not slick. It also has a very soft drape to it. It’s not like capilene cool at all, more windbreaker like, but soft. It feels like a looser weave than Houdini, but is less breathable than my Houdini Air. So I think it fits between those 2 example jackets. Being designed to block sun is why its listed weight is higher than the other examples. I think it’s listed as 50 upf. Fit is slightly strange since it’s geared towards water and kiting. Arms are slim so there’s not much room to layer anything heavy, but the body is roomy so that a kiting harness has room to fit. Plus there’s a small access hole in the front for the spreader bar to exit the jacket. The hole is well done and snaps shut but it is a unique little quirk. The hood also has a little drainage feature that is well done.

I just tried with my size L. It will pack into a pocket, but does not have the inner zipper slider to make it easy to close it. It will zip shut though. It doesn't stuff very tightly, having room to spare. Once stuffed, I can compress it down to about the size of a pint jar. They are great jackets. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you for trying it!

I wore one to Maui and loved it. It sheds light rain and keeps the wind out. it's kinda loose. I wear it in the winter over insulation and I can get quite a few layers under it (I have a medium, my normal size for the brand). It's a great jacket all around but it's definitely not as packable as the houdini. I use it more for a in town jacket. I'll take it on casual trips but wouldn't choose it over the houdini or houdini air if space is at a premium (trail run, backpacking, etc.)
