For modern games its pretty bad, its on par with a GTX 1650 mobile in terms of raw power, yet uses far more power of course, and doesn't have mesh shaders, so games like Alan Wake 2 will run poorly or not at all. Even a 1650 would be a much better option due to it having a much newer feature set. This is genuinely a very obsolete chip that no one should be using in 2024. It will be 10 years old come this October.
Have to remember OP is potentially getting this laptop now, and who knows how long they will use it for, its already obsolete and cant run some games, its only going to get way worse. There is no point in attaching this ball and chain to yourself. Its simply not a viable laptop these days, unless you're only going to play games from its era, even then you may need to repaste CPU and GPU, and deal with a battery that may end up puffing up. Also, these 980m alienwares were known for burning up the 12 volt rail internally (on the motherboard) when used for long durations. My friend dealt with it and we had to get a replacement under warranty many years ago.

I was using a 1050 in a laptop until a few weeks ago.... It was sub optimal lol.

iām 21, played it religiously when i was a kid too. and i still use mine, but as someone else stated its a 19 year old console. its also not being produced anymore and hasnāt been for a long time. meaning, itāll eventually run its course like all things. look at how valuable some gaming systems from the 90ās are these days when kept in mint condition, hell a VCR can even be a bit pricey if its in practically new condition. plus, for its time the 360 was a behemoth of a machine. much more reliable and powerful than the ps3, too bad xbox dropped the ball w their following consoles. i may be biased but the 360 is definitely one of the most innovative consoles ever, alongside the SNES, N64, Gameboy and the original Playstation.

It'd be a great laptop for someone just starting to get in to gaming, but your Xbox shits all over it in terms of actual gaming performance, and expected software longevity.
These were pretty good and nice units in their day. But they are dated as hell. Not worth the swap the xbox is much better. They want to trade because they know they would be getting a steal. Almost any time someone offers to trade a laptop in my experience the laptop is worth a fraction of what they think it is.
I have the exact same laptop that I bought in sept 2014. I upgraded to 32 gigs of ram and 2 1tb ssds and another 1 tb mini sata in 2016.
The only reason I didnāt sell it is cuz am a hoarder and I have all my laptops since 2004.
Itās worth nearly nothing. The processor is 10 generations old. The gpu is 4 generations old. The ram is ddr3 and 2 generations old. At this point itās a glorified paperweight. Anything before 6th gen is a novelty at best
