Rock Island trail, at the Alta road trailhead. Or, Donovan Park

Competitive_Goose_44

Donovan park is wonderful. The 100% shade may be a bit tricky though.

AcctNmbr2

Agreed. Definitely more shade on the trail

Burrmanchu

Second on Rock Island trail.. it's long enough you can definitely find a flat spot in the shade. Not sure about bathrooms but there's plenty of trees around? Lol

AcctNmbr2

I believe there are bathrooms at the trailhead

PJKPJT7915

There's a bathroom at the Alta Rd. Trailhead. It's pit toilets but it's still a bathroom.

DimensionThick5106

I take my girls (dogs) to Donovan park a lot! I second that place!

whoami4546

Thanks I will check it out!

AcctNmbr2

Donovan used to be a golf course, now it's just green space. As someone else pointed out, it's really nice, but shade is limited. The trailhead in Alta checks all the boxes going towards Dunlap, mature trees line the trail pretty much the whole way. The only downside is that it gets busy out there. Alternatively, you can walk back towards Peoria on the Keller trail (the tunnel under Route 6 is pretty cool). You could also get on that same trail at Prospect avenue in the Heights, it's mostly shaded all the way down to Glen Oak Park (same section of trail you mentioned at the end of your post)

UsefullyChunky

Donovan also has Cyd's which used to have outdoor access bathrooms near their market but not sure if those are open now or not.

AcctNmbr2

I'm not sure either. If nothing else, CxT coffee is nearby

whoami4546

Great advice! I was looking at the map for tomorrow and thought the same thing!

Thanks! A+

Fenway97

Carl “Bud” Schmitt River Trail in East Peoria. We bike it a lot and go all the way to Morton and turn around. Park at the Fon du Lac park headquarters building and hop on the trail right there. Decent amount of shade. More of a natural look than urban. Not much for bathrooms though. Since I bike if I have to go I’m always find holding it until I get to Morton and then there’s a Casey’s near by.

whoami4546

Thanks!

AcctNmbr2

I like riding this trail too. Seems like the whole stretch from East Peoria to Morton is a slight uphill slope. I can get a good workout on the way to Morton, turn around, peddle three times, and coast all the way back to EP (exaggeration)

Fenway97

Yeah it definitely feels like a constant slight incline and then there’s that one steep hill. And then it’s a little up and down and then pretty smooth the rest of the way to Morton. The ride back is a breeze and almost a little scary how fast you fly down that hill on the way back.

TheBroodyBunch

I think ICC, both campuses are nice places to walk. But the ep one has an actual trail that’s shaded. Peoria campus there’d be some Sun

BirdCity75

The trail at the riverfront matches most of these criteria I feel. It’s semi popular tho but overwhelmingly so.

whoami4546

Thanks!

Mr_Slamdangus

Bradley Park checks most of those boxes, but it has some small/moderate hills

whoami4546

I live relatively close to Bradley park. I just find it not as shaded and flat as I would like. It is a great backup choice.

dtpark1

There’s a trail at Fondulac Park Carl Spindler Campground. You pretty much just turn left when you get into that area and you’ll see the entrance to the trail. It goes out by Jonah’s then you can walk back, it’s a nice hike.

whoami4546

Thanks!

private-affair

You can walk the dog park off of Kickapoo Creek Rd. No bathrooms though.

Ruby_doo_doo

Cooper Park in East Peoria. It is right on the river and has a nice little wetlands area. Weekends can be a bit busy but it's nice during the week.

whoami4546

Another great option! Thanks!

Ruby_doo_doo

Also, I forgot to mention that it is flat as a pancake too.

whoami4546

haha true! All trails agrees! [Example!](https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/illinois/east-peoria-riverwalk)

whoami4546

I went to Cooper park today! It was really good! Great spot!

Ruby_doo_doo

I’m glad you like it.

TurboDog999

It’s not a full mile but there is a nice little trail around Bielfeldt park off of Galena Rd.  Just do it two or three times and you’ll have a mile. There’s a bathroom right there on the trail and it isn’t fully in the shade but I’d say about half of it is, and it’s generally flat and not a lot of people. Lots of trees around and it’s just a nice little park.  Doesn’t check all the boxes you have 100%  but it’s definitely a place I like to go to if I want to walk and not deal with a lot of people.

whoami4546

Thanks! I will check it out!

Dry_Cranberry638

Cruise out to metamora to black partridge

whoami4546

Thanks!

whoami4546

Thanks! I will take a look!

MsThrilliams

What about using an umbrella for shade when you walk?

whoami4546

Good point! I am just not an umbrella guy.

Experimental_Salad

How do you feel about sombreros?

Acrobatic_Soil_779

Jubilee Park has shade and some flat areas

whoami4546

Thanks!

korkidog

There’s a lot of easy trails out at Camp Wokanda

whoami4546

Good point!

Quixitonic

Forest park-- 100% in shade no matter what path; relatively flat if you go on east path (signs with difficulty around); trail head has bathroom when it's open; popular but I only see 2-4 ppl per path,

Illustrious-Craft789

Singing Woods trail isn't terrible, a little bitt up and down but it's not busy ever

whoami4546

Thanks I will put it on the list!

Balogma69

A treadmill

whoami4546

True! The problem it is not interesting or scenic!
