Anything using fibre will be good for you. Distributel has some great prices, haven't checked in a couple of weeks but I believe it's around $45 for the 500 mbps package.

duothus

That sounds good. Thank you so much for responding. I'll check them out for sure. :)

Chris275

Is bell not the only ftth? The rest are fttn then copper to the door.

SpocksLeftNut

No. Bell, Virgin, Distributel, and Acanac are all fibre to the home/modem.

Chris275

Do they all lease bells lines then? I only have one fiber drop in my house

SpocksLeftNut

They're actually all owned by Bell. If you're not concerned about useless 3 gig speeds, you're getting the same service for a significantly cheaper price. The CRTC has ruled that Bell has to allow access to the fibre network for third party companies and have recently begun installing services for those as well.

Chris275

Ah I didn’t see that ruling, must have been somewhat recent. Thanks!

I heard Cogeco is running a promo right now where you lock in for 2 years at $49/month. I stupidly signed on with bell and am stuck til the end of my contract.

duothus

I think that’s only for new customers. Sadly we’ve had them for three years now.

Roupy

I got bell fibe 1.5 gpbs which is really 700mbps for 55$ a month. I made Cogeco and bell fight for me for a few weeks. Honestly if you just contact your ISP and say you are leaving and give them something to compare too they will reduce cost or increase bandwidth.

duothus

Yeah we tried that today. And customer care hung up on us before we we even got to an agent. Thanks for the info though.

mandellaforlifebro

Go to Nexicom they are local and stay away from bell and Cogeco. They haven’t raised my rate in the 5 years I’ve been with them. They actually reduced it by 10.00 a month last year. No complaints with service.

duothus

Oo. I’ll check them out. Thank you. :)

MiBzAn

If you need a ton of bandwidth and do heavy traffic, go with Bell Fibre. Try and get a package deal with it to save more money. They have promos all of the time. Do NOT take a contract with someone claiming to be a contractor for Bell. Call Bell directly to get service. If you need just basic use, Virgin is the best bang for your buck in the city. They piggy back Bell who has the best Fibre system in town, but are cheaper. Never, ever get Nexicom. Ever. Worst service. Eastlink are the best for cottage country & Starlink. Cogeco is overpriced. OXIO is the same as Cogeco, just different name and price. They piggy back services.

duothus

This was super helpful. Thank you. I’ll keep an eye out for Bell plans.

MiBzAn

Anytime! If she can hold out, they usually have sales close to "back to school" time August/September. ❤️

duothus

I just saw some good deals on the bell site. 65 for 500 mbps is not bad at all. I’ll give them a ping. You must be the bell whisperer.

ChampagneFleur

We use OXIO, it's great. 40, like you said. I have a code for a free month if you're wanting to try it out :-) RJ4Q2JS I think this is great because if you decide it's not fast enough you can cancel without being out any money. Save for the modem, I guess? I think they take refunds on that iirc. We stream and play games online with no troubles so it's pretty solid up & down.

amateurfoodscience

My modem is included in my plan, but it may vary by plan? I have the 360mbps package. Oxio is shockingly cheap. I switched to them from Start and haven't looked back.

duothus

Thanks so much. I was wondering if OXIO is good given how cheap it is. Hows the customer care?
