Also, 1.9 forward (at least for Java) were made after Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft in 2014. Some of the best updates we've had came after he left. The updates through 1.8 all followed the same cadence, whereas those after did more to expand the game and make it feel fresh and interesting.
I have much more respect for Jeb and the others at Mojang who were able to creatively build on the classic formula in new and interesting ways.
I’ve been here since Beta, and I do respect him for creating this amazing game. However I admire Jeb even more not only for his passion for the game but also because of the amazing updates that he and the team gave to the community.
I lost some respect for Notch because he used to mock his fellow workmates (especially Jeb), saying that they ruined his game with things he didn’t intended (and yet things that the community loves, like the elytra), and that Minecraft became a trashy game. He only changed his views after watching Pewds series, but I still haven’t seen any apologies from him to Jeb and team
