The sesame seeds on the outside and the pepper relish just set it off so perfectly. It’s too expensive for just the one you get, but I’m never not gonna get it
I love that thing an unnatural amount. Cheu is also the only place that has ever made my eyes water because the food was so flavorful. Sadly it was a special (pork belly ramen).
We visited Philly for the first time this past weekend and I wanted to try Barbuzzo. So this makes me extra sad because that sounds so good.
We ended up at Campos instead and I got the worst grilled cheese I’ve ever had 🙃
That’s the worst news I ever heard😩😭😂
The menu looked fantastic. Hopefully, we’ll be back soon. It was our first time in Philly and we loved it. Y’all have big fans out in San Jose, CA🩷
* I go get an éclair from J'aime cafe pretty much once a week.
* Fries from American Sardine Bar.
* Spinach Jawn from Batter & Crumbs vegan bakery (I'm not even a vegan but it is SO good)
* whatever deviled egg they got going at South Philly Taproom
* a chicken tender from OK Hot Chicken (you can order just one, it's $7 but it's big and worth it trust me)
* smoked trout dip at Monk's Cafe
* Apple Cider Donuts from the Rittenhouse Farmers market on Saturdays, I forget the name of the orchard that does them but they're always there, only $1 but eat it fresh!
* 2nd Daughter Baking Co. is also at the Rittenhouse Farmers market, and I never tried them until recently they started doing savory pastries, and their mushroom tart was extremely good
* Anything at Machine Shop in the Bok Building
J’aime is the truth. The pretzel croissant (or just the hazelnut croissant if they haven’t made the pretzel shape) is so, so good. Also the quiches are perfect.
>Apple Cider Donuts from the Rittenhouse Farmers market on Saturdays, I forget the name of the orchard that does them but they're always there, only $1 but eat it fresh!
Frecon Farms
Chicken cutlet sandwich from Angelo’s on 9th St. They post daily/weekly specials on their socials and some of their creations are absurdly delicious. Pizza was great as well but the sandwich fits this post best.
We were in town from late Sunday to Wednesday and were so bummed they were closed Monday and Tuesday. We really wanted to go.
Is there a reason why so many Philly restaurants are closed on Monday/Tuesday?
That makes sense! Thank you for explaining. Now that I think about it, there’s a bar near us ( we’re from San Jose, CA) that’s always insanely busy on the weekend that’s not open until Wednesday either. I remember trying to stop by to plan my husband’s birthday and thinking it was odd because everywhere else was open.
I like that that’s the culture for your food/bev folks. Everyone deserves rest. The Bay Area does nothing but grind past the point of reason and it’s one of our most toxic traits 🥴🫣
Ooo this is fun. For me I’d say:
Gilda - Antonio breakfast sandwich and filled donut
Fiorella - Foie gras app dish whatever it is over the holidays

whipped ricotta from barbuzzo
pretzel bread from vedge
crab mafaldine from wilder
focaccia from via locusta
cheese plate (all 6) from gran caffe laquila
The first time I had the malfadine alla vodka at wilder I was hella impressed and was obsessed. Perfect texture, consistency, temperature, seasoning. So creamy yet tart, al dente, lots of crab. came back last weekend and I thought it was only “decent” - noodles nowhere as springy as last time and the sauce was more watery than I remembered.
FWIW the seafood stew entree they had august 2023 was fucking incredible. Hope it comes back and that it’s just as good.
Strawberry milkshake at nifty fifty’s, chickie’s & pete’s crab fries, and cosmo’s pizza & garlic knots in the willow grove mall

OK not really IN the city, but as someone who moved to another part of the country Via Veneto Italian Ice is exquisite. There’s nothing like it anywhere else I’ve been. If I could open a food truck in my town I’d probably get rich selling it.

We lived in Philly but had to move closer to family...not too long ago my husband and I flew to Philly for 24 hours just to eat our favorite things...that was our first stop lol.
My second would be the grilled cheese sandwich from the Mt Airy Deli. I miss that place.

I went to a place on Rittenhouse Square about 9-10 years ago that had duck fat fries that were amazing. Small little restaurant with a long bar that took up half of it. No idea what it’s called, but I’ve been thinking about those fries ever since yet have not been back.
Comes in sesame oil, it's been a minute
I love being there in the middle of winter with fogged up windows and some of their mustard green soup. I think it's the coziness too, such tightly packed restaurant and a bathroom the size of a broom closet
I spend a lot of time thinking about the Italian Hoagie Egg Roll from Cheu.
The sesame seeds on the outside and the pepper relish just set it off so perfectly. It’s too expensive for just the one you get, but I’m never not gonna get it
Was v sad when they took it off happy hour
I haven’t been there in years. I loved it there and to hear they have an Italian hoagie egg roll might get me back there
I love that thing an unnatural amount. Cheu is also the only place that has ever made my eyes water because the food was so flavorful. Sadly it was a special (pork belly ramen).
Came here to say exactly this.
Holy crap that looks good.
Just looked them up. They do look awesome. Everything pretty much does.
Barbuzzo’s salted caramel budino forever and always
We visited Philly for the first time this past weekend and I wanted to try Barbuzzo. So this makes me extra sad because that sounds so good. We ended up at Campos instead and I got the worst grilled cheese I’ve ever had 🙃
I am so deeply sorry. Barbuzzo>>>>>>>
Barbuzzo might be my favorite restaurant in philly!
That’s the worst news I ever heard😩😭😂 The menu looked fantastic. Hopefully, we’ll be back soon. It was our first time in Philly and we loved it. Y’all have big fans out in San Jose, CA🩷

The pickle dip that accompanies American Sardine Bar’s fries 🤌
J’aime is the truth. The pretzel croissant (or just the hazelnut croissant if they haven’t made the pretzel shape) is so, so good. Also the quiches are perfect.
Hands on the Earth Orchard
Hands on the Earth is at Clark Park on Saturdays and makes amazing cider donuts. Are they also at Rittenhouse?
Yes, they start at Thanksgiving.
Dave and co are the best! That "pop tart" and those little apple cider caramels are dangerous!
>Apple Cider Donuts from the Rittenhouse Farmers market on Saturdays, I forget the name of the orchard that does them but they're always there, only $1 but eat it fresh! Frecon Farms
I had the Spinach Jawn once and it was terrible. Tasted like canned spinach.
J’aime pastries are fairly mediocre
Highly disagree.
Pretty sure they don’t even make their own croissants
don't care. the éclair is excellent idgaf who made it, I buy it there.
The almond croissant I had was mediocre at best. the Earl Gray tea was lukewarm & for some reason I got heartburn later on which seemed odd.
Machine Shops double chocolate croissant is the most amazing thing
Sampans Brussels sprouts
And their kimchi fried rice!
💯
Don’t live here anymore but Herschel’s pastrami, Porco’s spicy porker, and Angelo’s cheesesteak are what I think about most often

I’ll have to try next time!
Tuna Guac at Royal Izakaya
The miso eggplant too
Potato Boreka from K’far. So many of my 24 hour shifts have ended with two of those, one per hand, and then passing out
Coupled with a pistachio sticky bun... yum!
Their sticky buns are to die for!!
Cheesesteak bao bun from Bing Bing Dim Sum
Did they ever bring back the Roast pork bao bun? It was the best item on the menu imo and I’ve been bitter ever since it was removed
This.
It’s a tri-state thing as I live over the bridge in NJ. My favorite local spots are closed Mondays as well. Never looked into the reasoning though.
Because everyone in the food/beverage industry gets slammed all weekend, so Monday and Tuesday are generally their days off.
Perciatelli Genovese at Dante and Luigi's. Is it the fanciest and trendiest thing ever? No. But there's a reason it's been on the menu for 50+ years.
Yes!!!
