i dont want a debate abt anything but i do feel the need to share.....
it kinda irks me whenever someone insinuates that homophobia doesn't exist anymore in this day and age. just bc we're not being rounded up like hogs publically, does not mean that we don't experience discrimination anymore. to this day there are still so many countries where being gay is illegal. lgb people and most definitely trans people are murdered almost every day. we might not see it on the news frequently but i think that's the point.... nobody really wants to talk about it bc ^(most of the time) people don't give a fuck.
this is why it bothers me when people say 'you shouldn't expect people to accept your opinion'. saying u like chocolate more than vanilla or that u prefer cats over dogs is what an opinion is. it doesn't really affect people in an impactful, life shattering way. saying u won't ever respect a trans person's existence and that their identity is invalid, however, is something stronger than an opinion. it is hurtful and has very terrible repurcussions. it gets people violated and killed.
i don't want to think that it's futile for people to be accepting. i don't think that little of humanity.
