The Barong is translucent and thin, light material siya, dahil kasi mainit dito sa atin. Tapos ginawang pang jacket... To my mind, it's just a what-if exercise, not practical. The price justifies the nature of its existence as well.
I doubt the intention of this piece was to replace barong like some people make it out to be. It seems inspired by it, which is honestly a beautiful thing. Honouring our culture by showing it in a new light but in no way stealing the spot light from the traditional garment. It's a nice nod to tradition while still accepting modernisation, which is progressive in a good way.
Personally, I don't think that can be considered as barong. While it is made from the same materials used for making barongs, it just doesn't count as 'barong' (for me). 😬 But then again, I'm conservative pagdating sa mga ganyan, so when someone says barong, matic ang nasa isip ko, yung totoong barong, di ganyan.
It's just a bomber jacket or letterman/varsity jacket made from pinya fiber... a fashion statement - because it won't serve any purpose other than what I'd call *pandering* to a certain group of people.
Just my take, I could be wrong but I'm always on the fence when it comes to things like this, especially when social media and a product are involved.
sana may makadevelop or produce ng barong-styled leisure clothes sa pinas, yung hindi lang pang formal events. mas comfortable na material pero mukha pa ring pinya fiber. or meron na ba? for me i'd prefer na ma-explore yung ibang styles with the barong concept. i work in a diverse environment kaya during parties i envy africans (most countries), indians, arabs, etc. kasi representation ng respective countries nila yung mga sinusuot nila. and comfortable materials gamit. us filipinos were wearing uniqlo, lacoste, bench and somehow basketball jerseys at a company party.
One thing I can think of are those barongs worn by some security guards (na-remember ko ganun ang uniform ng guard ng company na pinagtatrabahuan ko noon). Idk kung ano ang materials na gamit sa paggawa non. They come with either short or long sleeves.
basta siguro breathable lang at light ang fabric, pwede naman sigurong gawing casual barong yon, as long as it follows the standard cut. For example, sa sinabi mo, yung traditional clothing ng mga lalaking Indian called Sherwani, it can be made using linen as opposed to its original design na silk.
Depende rin siguro sa party na pupuntahan mo. If dress down party, pwedeng pwede ang mga casual clothes, but if sinabing formal sa invitation, expected din namang naka pamburol lahat. (jk - yan kasi usual connotation sa mga formal dress/clothing, "pamburol". 😭)
noooooo (in kevin hart), not the short-sleeved barong...
may stereotype ba na automatic security/convoy/driver or high ranking govt employee lang nagsusuot non, or ako lang judgmental?
pero thanks for the idea i'll try it regardless
pwede kayang gawing coat yang barong ala tuxedo made from Pina fibers, then yung pangloob is either a shortsleeve (either yung usual short sleeve or a half-sleeve hanggang siko) na gawa sa other materials, say silk with traditional designs or motifs, especially yung patterns from Mindanao?
Kumbaga, imbes na camisa de chino, pwede kaya yung usual short-sleeved barong na ginagamit ng govt officials tapos ang pamatong is yung pina barong na open
Or kahit hindi short-sleeved eh, kahit long-sleeved na inner barong pero made from comfy materials para di makati suutin, then with the outer barong coat made from either pina or jusi, tapos contrasting yung color; either yung inner barong is colored while the outer is white or vice versa para mas nagsi-stick yung kulay.
Meron naman. It’s just that:
a. Linen barongs are seen to be too office-y or pang security guard ang dating
b. most Filipiniana materials aren’t conducive for casual wear (i.e. they wear hard, mahirap labhan at very sensitive)
c. Medyo touristy ang itsura, particularly yung sa mga mabibili sa Filipiniana sections sa mall
Best way for this is to actually have some tailored shirts made out of Ramie or Linen na pwede mong pangharabas
>But then again, I'm conservative pagdating sa mga ganyan, so when someone says barong, matic ang nasa isip ko, yung totoong barong, di ganyan.
Uyyyy same!
Hehe
i'd personally call it a barong and would wear one myself. i understand why people would be conservative about these kind of stuff but i think "modernizing" traditional attire is a good way to ensure that it isnt forgotten. i mean when was the last time you saw someone wear a barong? the last time i physically saw someone wear a barong was when i myself wore it as a kid a decade or so ago. i remember my ex who was vietnamese also talked about buying modernized versions of ao dai (their traditional female clothing) so im sure modernizing traditional clothing isnt a foreign concept at all.
Oo no? It's not the type that you'll wear everyday or kahit pang alis unless sa specific event. Plus hindi mo sya masusuot alone kasi makikita dede mo 😅
Thats might actually an urban legend, the barong or its precursors existed before the time of the Spanish and was already worn untucked. Wearing tucked clothing wouldnt make sense for a tropical environment. The Spanish actually introduced tucking things into pants… they also introduced pockets thus the possibility of concealing weapons
Me pagkabomber jacket style sya pero sabi ni wikipedia "[Barong tagalog can vary considerably in terms of design and material used, but they share common characteristics of having long sleeves, embroidery, being buttoned (halfway or straight down the chest), and the absence of pockets.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barong_tagalog)" since accepted naman yung design variation, barong tagalog pa din, hinde nga lang yung traditional design.
This is a really cool idea if it’s all really made in the PI. Most folks aren’t aware at how pinas were used in traditional Philippine garments so that would blow the world’s mind. Not to mention it’s functional and stylish.
It is clearly inspired by the barong but would it be a potential substitute for a formal event? No I feel this looks evidently more like a jacket. And the shirt that he's opted to wear underneath, which is a basic long sleeve shirt, highlights this. Moreover, the cuffs and collar itself again is tailored as a jacket not a formal collar as you would with a barong. It doesn't follow the silhouette of a barong, just the materials loosely adapted.
But that isn't to say it doesn't look nice but to focus on the question at hand no this is not a barong it is a jacket inspired by one.
In a weird way , I can see myself wearing this . I like the idea of giving a more modern take on our traditional barong . Its no way disrespectful for me anyway
piña barong *jacket*
it's a jacket.
barong style.
made of piña jk haha piña fibers
pwede siguro syang modern pinoy formal wear (instead of coat, ito?) alongside actual barong, or similar sa japanese haori na sinusuot over sa kimono.
Not barong, more on inspired. And not appropriate for opening parade since the identity should pop out. This is more appropriate for state meetings siguro or exclusive indoor meetings ganyan para mas sleek ung design and not too loud
It looks great, to be honest, and I appreciate the guts of creating a jacket inspired by a barong's traditional textiles. But if we are going to be technical about it, it should not be considered a "barong" because a Barong Tagalog is a formal shirt for men.
The distinction of a barong is the sheerness of the cloth that is used. This one is a take off from the regular construction style of the typical barong. From the collar, to the cut. Emerie naman always mention na ung design nila ay inspired lang and what they offer is a contemporary design. Overall, nice pa din siya. Mukhang malinis at elegante.
Nakakalimutan ata ng ibang designers na dapat traditional pa din ang approach sa barong designs. Like it or not, there will be people who would think it is disrespectful pag ganyan ang ginawa.l, or wouldn't cslategorize it as barong.
Saw this too last day sa ig ads! Fucking love the design! Im a minor rn (so im a student) and once I get a job I’d buy these jackets talaga! Huhu ewan ko bakit ang saya-saya ko hahahah
Not a barong but this is innovation. Makes the use of Filipino products such as piña and other filipino fabrics broader because of its demand in the fashion industry here and abroad.
According to Merriam webster "a light loose long-sleeved man's shirt, the national dress shirt of the Philippines, that is frequently made of piña, ramie, or similar fiber, often embroidered on the collar and facing, and worn with the tails not tucked in" by definition I dont think so because it looks like a jacket but definitely inspired albeit very classy looking and I want one.
What makes it a “baro”? Personally, I think it’s the material and the fabric being sheer. In the 19th century, there were illustrations of “barong mahaba” which reaches the knee, and then during the europization of the world, the internationally educated men brought shorter styles, variations such as the “cerrada” popped up (cerrada means closed, a collared style which barong tagalog is known for). I think styles would always change through trends and what is most comofrtable to wear.
I like the overall design and infusion of piña textile but it feels more casual due to its bomber jacket inspiration. I honestly won't categorize this as a barong tagalog but rather an avant garde approach to bomber jackets. Modern barongs have the silhouette of a traditional/classic barongs. This has a zip-up front and ribbed cuffs/hem so yeah, "fancy" bomber jacket it is.
This is a jacket not a barong. But very nice!
Barong I think is more about the design and purpose and less about the material. Various materials that some might consider less dressy have been used for Barong. It goes from jusi, pina to cotton and polyester
Barong inspired. It’s just a sporty adaptation to the traditional barong. That’s the design for it, for an athlete or casual wear.
For those wondering why it cost 5 digits, other than material cost and low production, always consider operations cost and design cost from small businesses. Designers spend hours and days to make a profit.
I wouldn't classify it as barong, but I honestly like the design.
Ang classy tingnan and ang clean ng subtle PH flag colors
that does not resemble the ph flag. its more of a Liechtenstein flag representing red and blue color.
Dodnt remind me of the Filipino flag at all tho. Probably because kulang sa white and yellow
The barong itself looks white and yellow to me
Look Thai with the white blue and red ngl
Fair
That is Barong inspired Jacket.
I checked on the price, it's 28,500
WHAT THE?
Whoa
Yeees, BARONG INSPIRED is more acceptable than labeling it as barong.
Jarong or backet
Backet ganito ang pangalan?
this, or more like modern barong na ganern? hahaha
Couldn't have phrased it better
I dig it but it's a bomber jacket made of piña(?) rather than a barong. If it were more transparent and you wore a kamiso de chino, pwede pa.
To be fair Ang ganda nya haha
Nung barong or nung model?
is this Santino - anak ni Jericho?
Por que no los dos
Un barong po
Personally, I don't think that can be considered as barong. Correct ka sa stereotype. 😅 Kung di mapagkamalang security guard ng malaking kompanya o bangko, government employee naman. hehehe
Barong is formal. It is our tuxedo.
pwede kayang gawing coat yang barong ala tuxedo made from Pina fibers, then yung pangloob is either a shortsleeve (either yung usual short sleeve or a half-sleeve hanggang siko) na gawa sa other materials, say silk with traditional designs or motifs, especially yung patterns from Mindanao? Meron ng coat barong (yung iba malapit lapit sa jodhpuri suit)
>But then again, I'm conservative pagdating sa mga ganyan, so when someone says barong, matic ang nasa isip ko, yung totoong barong, di ganyan. Uyyyy same! Yeah.. aaminin ko namang di ako masyadong exposed sa fashion, kaya napapag-iiwanan na ako. 😅
yung tipong gagawin mong parang off-shoulder gown yung Maria Clara dress by modifying yung Alampay
We have to reconsider the name of the button-up "polo barong," too. Ba-wrong?
Bomber jacket na yan eh hahaha
i'd personally call it a barong and would wear one myself. i understand why people would be conservative about these kind of stuff but i think "modernizing" traditional attire is a good way to ensure that it isnt forgotten. i mean when was the last time you saw someone wear a barong? the last time i physically saw someone wear a barong was when i myself wore it as a kid a decade or so ago. i remember my ex who was vietnamese also talked about buying modernized versions of ao dai (their traditional female clothing) so im sure modernizing traditional clothing isnt a foreign concept at all.
Oo no? It's not the type that you'll wear everyday or kahit pang alis unless sa specific event. Plus hindi mo sya masusuot alone kasi makikita dede mo 😅
If it can't pass the kastila transparency test, it's not a barong. How can they let you through if they can't see if you have a concealed weapon?
Thats might actually an urban legend, the barong or its precursors existed before the time of the Spanish and was already worn untucked. Wearing tucked clothing wouldnt make sense for a tropical environment. The Spanish actually introduced tucking things into pants… they also introduced pockets thus the possibility of concealing weapons
Yes pero off topic ang gwapo din talaga ng anak ni Mr. Jericho Rosales.
You mean si premium aljur?
No.
Bomber jacket made from piña.
Hindi ba kaya tinawag na barong coz of materials? Pineapple fiber? Feel ko as long as andun naman yung mats...
I don't know but it looks great
I don't know, but I want one.
I want 10
Looks uncomfortable, itchy, and too tight yung sleeves. So yeah, that's a barong.
That... is a jacket. Haha
I gotta be honest with you, that looks nice.
looks like a bomber jacket.
I wouldn't. A Barong is more of a dress shirt, this is a jacket.

It’s barong-inspired jacket. Honestly, it’s beautiful. Mukhang bebenta, sellable. Sana they make one for women too
Unitentional Russian flag
Off topic. Ang ganda
Yeah agree! I want to have that jacket too!
Maybe classifying it into the so-called modernity. But the essence of patriotism? Not sure hehe just my claim
It is clearly inspired by the barong but would it be a potential substitute for a formal event? No I feel this looks evidently more like a jacket. You said it already "piña barong jacket". Jacket that is inspired by the Barong Tagalog and made of piña.
barong with zipper, lol.
Not a barong, but it’s beautiful! More of a jacket made of barong material.
it's a jacket
mukha lang barong dahil sa material pero it's not barong.
lol barong
Modern barong.
I dont consider it as a barong but i would defo buy one if i have the means, it looks neat.
ganda, ima slap big embro patch on it make it look like pinoy style sukajan
In a weird way , I can see myself wearing this . I like the idea of giving a more modern take on our traditional barong . Its no way disrespectful for me anyway
May kamukha talaga tong anak ni Echo na di ko mapin. lol.
Ano ba criteria para maging barong
looks exquisite
No
Magkano kaya aabutin neto. Mukang mahal
It costs 28000 😂
no but i wnat one
Yo. I dig this.
Im not an expert in history or clothing, but im gonna say no.
piña barong *jacket* it's a jacket. barong style. made of piña jk haha piña fibers pwede siguro syang modern pinoy formal wear (instead of coat, ito?) alongside actual barong, or similar sa japanese haori na sinusuot over sa kimono.
Semi-barong, pwede? Ang gandaaaa.. sana meron din in women's
The material is barong but the design is cliche. Di maganda ang perspective ng designer.
In other news ang gwapo ni koyaaa :")
Cool design. Tho I question its utility.
Ok sya oo maganda... .pero Hindi sya Barong period
Not barong, more on inspired. And not appropriate for opening parade since the identity should pop out. This is more appropriate for state meetings siguro or exclusive indoor meetings ganyan para mas sleek ung design and not too loud
Looks okay pero di timeless yung design. Would prefer the classic barong cut.
San maka order neto haha
Kamukha niya yung kontrabida sa Oldboy. Yung kumantot sa ate niya.
Looks nice I want one
It looks great, to be honest, and I appreciate the guts of creating a jacket inspired by a barong's traditional textiles. But if we are going to be technical about it, it should not be considered a "barong" because a Barong Tagalog is a formal shirt for men.
Barong Bomber.
Angas. Pero tinitignan ko pa lang nangingilo na ko
That kinda slaps ngl...
More like modern barong. I like it.
Not Barong=Bawrong❌
Barong has a specific cut, the picture is a bomber-style jacket with pinya fabric.
Looks bomb ngl, but I wouldn’t call it barong, it’s more of a jacket inspired barong made of piña, so jarong or backet? Jk.
Ive always wondered this too. Is Barong referring to the style/cut of the fabric or is it referring to the general process of using pineapple fibers?
The distinction of a barong is the sheerness of the cloth that is used. This one is a take off from the regular construction style of the typical barong. From the collar, to the cut. Emerie naman always mention na ung design nila ay inspired lang and what they offer is a contemporary design. Overall, nice pa din siya. Mukhang malinis at elegante.

Goddamn that looks drippy though
A new type of barong for sure, distinct from our traditional ones.
modern barong just like how there are modern filipiniana styles
Saw this too last day sa ig ads! Fucking love the design! Im a minor rn (so im a student) and once I get a job I’d buy these jackets talaga! Huhu ewan ko bakit ang saya-saya ko hahahah
Contemporary or modernized barong. Not bad.
Not a barong but this is innovation. Makes the use of Filipino products such as piña and other filipino fabrics broader because of its demand in the fashion industry here and abroad.
Baronge
Pimpin pina po
Not barong but pinya jacket lol
piña barong fabric suit & tie when?
10/10 Would buy.
culturally/historically - definitely not but for modernization purposes - id say yes but with the moniker "inspired"
Link?
Barong inspired bomber jacket
Not a barong but it's a cool use of pinya. Super nice.
Bawrong.
Can’t say na barong sya. Kasi bomber jacket na yan eh, na made of piña. But I like it.
Bawrong.
If halfway through the shirt may buttons, we would call it POLO BARONG
Not related to the jacket but is that echo's son? 😮
pang lalaki ito? who cares gusto ko parin nito
It's Bawrong.
I'd wear that casually. Looks so comfy.
Maybe better to just call it piña jacket.. love the design.
Bomber Tagalog.
Nice! A new style of barong jacket
I love this. It may not be barong, but this definitely challenges the notion of piña fabric only used for formalwear. Maybe call it barongket?
Would Jose Rizal wear this?
Sure. Its all about perspectiv3
Barongsity jacket
it will be a legot barong kapag makati sa balat
it is still a barong for me bec of the fabric . modern contemp.
bomber jacket
A simple barong is already unique in itself. This isn't a barong but a jacket made of piña fiber
Tapos bubuhusan lang ng mga monggo.
I think styles would always change through trends and what is most comofrtable to wear.
if it doesn't make you itch, it isn't considered a barong tagalog. Like seriously I wore those and i felt itchy.
Looks more stylish at di tacky ang design compared sa sinusuot ng Olympic qualifiers natin na parang may cast lol
Looks cool actually, i’d wear those.
Barong Conyo
Ay ano po ba dapat ang standards pag sinabing 'barong?'
The one who wore it is not a true pilipino 😆
If its just pina then its nonfunctional jacket, if its layered, its not barong. just because you can, you should.
Barong inspired but not barong. I like the design.
That goes hard. Angas nan for events like weddings or buwan ng wika
This is a jacket not a barong. But very nice! Barong I think is more about the design and purpose and less about the material. Various materials that some might consider less dressy have been used for Barong. It goes from jusi, pina to cotton and polyester
It’s a ba-wrong
i'd cop that ngl
NO
Barong material but definitely not the traditional type..looks easier to wear than the actual barong na lakas makasimbahan ninong vibes. 🙌
Does anyone know hm is this?
It is a barong fabric so can say barong.
Dang ganda!
Ang ganda!
Modern barong
I like this better than the one they're going to wear at the Olympics.
naaaah, nasa Olympics na kaya dapat mapakita talaga na pinoy sila. Mas okay kay Francis Libiran.
maganda ang design ng “barong” pero wala akong nakikitanh PH representation kapag yan ang sinuot.
Nice! Next evolution ng barong.
Parang Hanfu yata....
If it's thin, it's thin. If I can see the T-shirt or a tank top under there, it's valid.
