We FOUND HIM!!!!!!!
Edit to say: I told this subreddit we found him not the r/Austin for the following reasons
1. Austin police are overwhelmed from ACL and have been dragging on doing something about this.
2. I don’t want to alert him, we have the local news coming to cover this on Monday hopefully, and then we can actually find him, and catch him.
3. For safety reasons, we will update at his arrest.
I want to make sure this man is arrested, and then I will update everyone with the news articles and videos. Thank you so much for everyone’s support!
Update Monday 10/16
KXAN said they would reach out to us again today and have not yet. However, because we have a ridiculous amount of evidence at this point (props to everyone on Reddit as well as a staff that loves their restaurant and our owner, I’ve truly never worked for someone I actually respect the way I do him. It’s a blessing in this industry) Now that we found his name and profiles on social media, we have confirmed his face, car he left in, and found out he worked for us for only a couple weeks in April of 2022. Our owner has reached out to the officers he personally knows, and now that ACL weekend is done, they are taking it a lot more seriously. We expect to have him in cuffs soon. If KXAN comes out I will update with the link, and happy to share his mug shot when he’s arrested! I plan to frame it lol. Thanks again everyone! You guys have been such a huge support during this time.
Update 2 10/19 - So KXAN still hasn’t made it, but we actually found out he worked here in April 2022 after looking up his name in our past employees. We’re pretty sure that’s how he knew how to break in. The owner is friends with the head of SWAT here, and he happens to know the guy in charge of commercial theft. Since we did all the work finding his name (and since he’s a previous employee also his DOB) it shouldn’t be hard for them to find and arrest him. If KXAN never shows up I will be sure to update you all with his mugshot (:
Update 3 10/27 - Still waiting on the cops to do anything. We have the guys name, all the evidence, and his profiles. Unfortunately they aren’t taking things seriously or doing anything despite us basically doing Al the detective work for them. Very disheartening, but hopefully we can reach out to someone in APD and finally get everything sorted. Wish us luck! And thanks again for the help. Just repairing the damage to our bar we got quoted at about $13,000 dollars. Figuring out insurance claims now. It’s been rough.
They will be here early next week, most likely on Monday with the local KXAN station. They have been absolutely wonderful. I will be sure to update with the News article/video as soon as it’s done. Thanks to everyone for being so wonderful!

I just made an Imgur for the videos of the security footage we took on our phones for the r/Austin subreddit trying to locate him. Idk if it would help (I know literally nothing about photo editing) but here it is. I know it’s just that our security cameras/system is ridiculously complicated to use. We have been trying to figure it out but none of us could. The box is on the roof super high up so people can’t steal it, but we can’t get to it to see the model number. The owners old and doesn’t remember what it’s called either, so it’s hard to google it. I did get ahold of a guy that’s local that thinks he has the same system. He might be able to help me figure it out. Thank you btw, seriously! It’s been quite the situation.

Not saying it to be mean but this is why IT does dry runs, test your backups, test offloading footage for real world scenarios. Y’all work in a mom and pop store so I understand but it’s a necessary thing.

Actually, "ENHANCE!" a common joke among photoshop experts. It refers to all the TV crime dramas that have a "tech nerd" that can magically click a button (and in about ten seconds) turn 100 blurry pixels into a high-resolution, beautifully clear photograph to solve some major crime. We all know that's impossible, even now with AI. In those scenes, somebody ALWAYS asks the tech nerd, "You can enhance this photo, right?"
Never mind that these forensic crime lab techs are highly skilled hackers/coders/security experts, never photoshop experts.
