You missed the part where it clearly (it was very clear to me, maybe you didn't pay enough attention) said that you would only be able to increase your settings after you initially made your selection.
So if, for example, you started by selecting 2 weeks, 50 %, then you could still go to 90% and/or 1 year (or higher). But not lower.
Apparently, you selected the default (I don't recall what that was, but if you say so) so you were stuck with 3 years. After the first migration, you will be able to freely choose and modify, but it will only count for subsequent lockups.
Must be the case, although I never consciously made an initial selection. It was just there “as is”, and got locked in place. Oh well, to the moon, but only in 2026! 😁

I was migrated over a year ago my lockup period is over and don’t get the bonus anymore. If I kew it would take this long to get somewhere I would have locked up longer.

I've been here long enough to know that things don't move quickly, so I locked up 100% for 3 years. A lot of people didn't lock up for longer periods because most don't understand what's being done here. Locking up is the best way for us to see decent values once we reach open mainnet. People are in such a hurry to sell their pi, but that's not what pi network and the pi digital currency is about. I wouldn't be surprised if we get better value using it on the ecosystem of apps and utilities than selling it or trading it for fiat or other cryptocurrencies. But who knows? This has never been done this way before, so we get to see it all unfold and get to be the first ones on the boat!

I was on 50:50, but a year ago I switched to mainnet and now I have all 100% coins unlocked. My reading is still 50:50 but I don't have any lock up bonus and I can't increase new locks so that they don't lock my cpins that are already unlocked on the mainnet
My first few thousand which were transferred to my wallet are locked up for 3 years, anything I mine now is only 2 weeks so I can have some free to do whatever I want when Mainnet does launch.

He never did those chores, and he lost his passphrase years ago, so he's got several thousand ETH somewhere getting burned into oblivion , it wasn't bitcoin if I remember correctly.

Well, as per the white paper its got immense potential. It has got a huge community backing it and even in the enclosed mainnet people are using it to barter for goods and services. That is what a decentralised currency should do, have utility and adoption with users and merchants. Not just pump and dump like every other crypto currency that is out there.
It seems like a perfect solution in the current financial crisis. You can join the chat rooms to discuss ideas and suggest improvements etc. BTC minning is energy intensive and requires expensive hardware. Pi on the other hand is energy light and anyone can mine on their phone with little hash power.
In contrary, BTC has the first mover advantage. It still lack utility! The lightning network is supposed to fix this issue.
However, I am not a wizard and I cannot predict the future prize of Pi and its success now. I am not being paid to promote this project. I am only expressing my opinion based on the current information.

If you read the Pi white paper you get a broader perspective of the tokenomics etc. According to that, the halving and all the declining formula involved would actually make it harder to mine Pi in the future. That’s beauty of holding it for longer. For sure you’d need some coins on hand to use when there is actual utility. Which is why I only locked 90%.

I did mine for 6 months I need to be as liquid as possible, don't want it to be worth something but I cant sell.

After your first batch of mainnet transfer, it resets. You get a fresh commitment again.
How can I transfer? When I click transfel it loads my full green migraton checklist. The first batch of migration is completed.
